Kapitel 12: Loot

The viewers were stunned speechless for a moment, their mouths agape and eyes wide. Then they flooded the chat with cheerful comments.

"God King Zeus has done it again!"

"It's another instant kill!"

"This is the third time he's done it!"

"The instant kill mechanism seems to be a match made in heaven for him!"

Many were happy to see him overcome the wall that had reduced so many players to tears on his very first try. However, not everyone was pleased to see him succeed.

"The Venomous Fang, a monster that's ten times more challenging than an Imp Assassin and has caused countless streamers to break down and rage-quit today, was taken out by him so easily? How is this possible?! I think he is cheating," said DarkHunter77.

"The commenter above, don't spew bullshit out of your mouth," another viewer retorted. "You can't cheat in New World Online. The developers implemented a state-of-the-art anti-cheat system that's impenetrable. The company even hired several dozen groups of the world's best hackers to try and crack their defense system. They tried for weeks but failed. That's how strong the game's security is. It's impossible for anyone to hack into the game."

"The commenter two floors above, If you don't speak, no one will know you're stupid." DragonSlayer123 chimed in.

XtremeGamer added, "DarkHunter77, just because you can't do it doesn't mean nobody else can."

"You're saying nonsense," DarkHunter77 attempted to defend himself, but his efforts were immediately shot down.

"I saw your stream today. You weren't able to get past the fourth part of the tutorial because of the Venomous Fang. You're a loser, but not everyone is a loser like you. You easily get jealous of other people's success. You don't have a good future ahead of you," XtremeGamer retorted harshly.

XtremeGamer wasn't an evil person, but he wasn't a saint either. When he felt pissed off, he showed it. DarkHunter77 disgusted him when he accused Zeus and tried to turn the viewers against him, so he decided to teach him a lesson, cyberbullying him mercilessly.

"You…!" DarkHunter77's face turned beet red as he huffed and puffed, swinging his fists in empty air. He was so angry he wanted to beat up XtremeGamer in real life.

"Don't spread hatred here; it's not welcome," GamerGoddess said firmly.

She held a special place in the gaming community as one of the most famous commentators of Digital Gladiator. Both veterans and newcomers to the e-sports scene end up liking her after seeing her clips. She was beautiful and came off as a ice cold beauty, but she was actually somewhat silly and clumsy. Being in front of the camera most of the time meant that her personality couldn't be hidden. There were many clips of her being extremely adorable. And despite her shortcomings, there was no denying that she was passionate about her job.

Some love stricken fools even idolised her.

GamerGoddess was DarkHunter77's idol. Being reprimanded by her crushed his spirit. He felt so ashamed that he didn't dare to rebuke her or anyone else.

The viewer count dropped by one. DarkHunter77 had run away.

The person that a group of people had come together to defend was bombarded with notifications right after he took down Venomous Fang.

HIs attention was focused on them. He didn't bother checking the chat.

[System Notification: You have killed a Level 1 Area Boss: Spear-Wielding Venomous Fang. You gained 200 EXP and 1x Lucky Draw.]

[Lucky Draw: A consumable item that can only be used once. When activated, it allows the player to draw a random reward from a pool of items. The rewards can range from common items like potions or gold to rare items like ability books or powerful equipment. The outcome is purely based on luck, making it a gamble every time. Use it 'wisely!"]

[System Notification: Achievement Unlocked: Slay an Area Boss for the First Time. You gained 60 EXP.]

[System Notification: Mid-Tier Normal Achievement Unlocked: Slay a Level 1 Area Boss with a single strike while being the same level as the boss. You have gained 90 EXP.]

In New World Online, achievements were divided into six types: Normal, Extraordinary, Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Mythical. Each type was further divided into three tiers—low, mid, and high.

During the tutorial, only Normal achievements were achievable. Most of these were low-tier achievements. There were only three mid-tier and one high tier normal achievements available in the tutorial

Low tier normal achievement granted 60 EXP. Mid-tier achievements granted 30 EXP more than that. They might also grant skill and stat points, but there was no guarantee that you will get them each time you unlock a mid-tier achievement. As for high-tier achievements, on top of granting double the EXP of mid-tier achievements, they could also reward players with additional items like ability books or equipment.

Before the fight with the Spear-Wielding Venomous Fang, Leon already had 50 out of the 400 EXP points he needed to level up. After killing it and unlocking multiple achievements, he earned a total of 350 EXP, which, when added to the EXP he already had, was enough for him to level up.

In New World Online, leveling up was automatic. Once a player gathered enough EXP, the system would automatically increase their level and grant them the appropriate rewards. Thus, Leon received the following notifications.

[System Notification: You have leveled up. You gained 1 stat point and 1 skill point.]

[Exp Required to reach the next level: 0/800]

"I have finally advanced to Level 2 early Apprentice stage. It should be unlocking anytime now," Leon thought.

[System Notification: It has been detected that you have reached Level 2 of the early Apprentice Sword Dancer stage. You have unlocked an Ability Slot.]

This is a special feature in New World Online that allows players to inlay an ability book directly into their avatar's skill tree.

Ability books grants supernatural powers that are stronger than the basic class-based skills.

The most important thing to note about Ability Slots is that they are unlocked at even levels. For example, the first one is unlocked at Level 2 of the first stage. The second to fifth ability slots are unlocked at the 4th, 6th, 8th, and the peak level of the early Apprentice stage respectively. Each unlocked slot allows the player to inlay one ability book, permanently enhancing their combat potential.

However, Leon didn't have an ability book, and there was very little chance of getting one from the Lucky Draw consumable sitting in his inventory. After all, the odds of drawing a skill book from the Lucky Draw were minuscule—only 0.1%, similar to hitting the jackpot in a lottery. Even the odds of drawing a decent piece of equipment were higher than pulling an ability book.

Besides, Leon had no intention of using the Lucky Draw consumable anytime soon.

There was a hidden stat in this game called Luck. This stat affected what you received in the game each time you completed a dungeon, killed mobs and bosses, or used consumables like the Lucky Draw.

If you had high Luck, aimlessly wandering around in the game could result in stumbling upon a rare treasure or a special quest. But if your Luck was rotten, you could forget about getting anything valuable without putting in days to months' worth of effort.

Leon knew his luck was pretty bad. In his previous life, he hadn't gotten any rare items from consumables like the Lucky Draw, despite playing the game for several years and using hundreds of them.

He had started two years later than others, and not getting lucky with in-game gambling was among the main reasons why, despite his extreme mastery of the basic skills of the Sword Dancer class, he had only been able to become a slightly better-than-average gold miner.

The other main reason was his focus on PvE gameplay. His equipment set catered to farming monsters and dungeons. He didn't have a PvP set, which was necessary to break into the pro scene. He didn't have it as he couldn't afford it. This was the reason he didn't manage to set foot into the e-sports world, despite his skill level that rivaled pros.

[A special tip has been issued: Search the body of the Spear-Wielding Venomous Fang to obtain additional loot.]

In New World Online, there was always a chance that inspecting a corpse might result in finding hidden items or special loot.

Thus, Leon crouched low and inspected the corpse of the Spear-Wielding Venomous Fang.

After a moment of searching, he found a small bottle filled with Nightshade Poison, the very same deadly toxin that had coated the Imp's spear.

This poison was lethal not only to humans but also to monsters.

If he applied it to his swords, they would become lethal instruments of death, no different from the reaper's scythe. A single scratch or slash from these poisoned blades would seal the target's fate, dooming them to a swift and agonizing death.

He took the bottle and stored it in his inventory.

Next, Leon noticed the spear that was beside the Imp's corpse. Since it hadn't dissapeared, it could only mean it was part of the loot. Without hesitation, he picked it up and stored it in his inventory as well.

'It will come in handy later,' he thought, narrowing his eyes as he straightened up from his crouching position, about to resume his journey.

He didn't take the claws of Venomous Fang because it wasn't as sharp as the claws of an Imp Assassins. Its claws were brittle and weak and thus didn't have any value. There was a reason why it used a weapon.
