Kapitel 291: Chapter 291:

Regardless of what others thought at the moment, this battle between the Akatsuki and the Leaf Village had reached its climax. For Uchiha Itachi, this was the most crucial moment, the time for him to truly take the stage!

Due to the overuse of the Mangekyou Sharingan, two lines of blood-tears trickled down from the corners of Itachi's eyes.

He coughed a few times, with blood spilling from the corner of his mouth, but his eyes remained resolute.

"Why?" Kakashi and the others looked at Itachi in confusion.

They found it hard to understand why Itachi would go to such lengths for the Akatsuki.

"We leave now!" Deva Path Pain exchanged a glance with Obito, then nodded silently, signaling the other Akatsuki members to retreat.

Though they didn't understand why Itachi chose to stay behind at such a critical moment, if someone was willing to cover their retreat, it was all the better.

So, Deva Path Pain led the remaining members of Akatsuki in a swift retreat.

"Itachi... he's truly someone beyond comprehension." Before leaving, Kisame gave Itachi a deep, long look.

Having been partnered with Itachi for a long time, Kisame thought he understood Itachi well enough.

But today's events completely took him by surprise.

He never imagined that in such a crucial moment, Itachi would show such a spirit of sacrifice for the team.

As the members of Akatsuki began to retreat, naturally, the Leaf Village shinobi weren't ready to let them go easily. Each of them began to move, attempting to intercept the fleeing Akatsuki members.

But just then, Itachi's Mangekyou Sharingan spun rapidly. Clearly, he was unleashing his full ocular power without holding anything back.

Boom!

An expanse of pitch-black flames surged forth.

Amaterasu!

Without restraint, Itachi unleashed Amaterasu, causing his Mangekyou Sharingan to bleed heavily.

However, having already resolved to die, Itachi treated this as his final Amaterasu.

The black flames formed a long wall, blocking the path of all the Leaf Village shinobi!

"Is this Itachi's final strength?" Watching the enormous Amaterasu flames, Kisame sighed with emotion.

Indeed, knowing that excessive use of the Mangekyou Sharingan could lead to blindness, Itachi always minimized its usage, saving his strength for when it was absolutely necessary.

Unleashing his ocular power without holding back—this was the first time Itachi had ever done so.

"Is he truly resolved to die?" Obito, well aware of the side effects of the Mangekyou, also muttered to himself, seeing such a powerful Amaterasu.

Even so, Obito still did not fully trust Itachi.

Furthermore, Itachi's decision to stay behind seemed far too unusual.

Thus, during their retreat, Obito signaled Zetsu with a glance.

Zetsu, understanding Obito's intention, nodded silently and sank into the ground.

Zetsu, too, wanted to verify whether Itachi's final stand had any hidden tricks.

"Sasuke, go ahead, grant him some dignity."

All the Leaf shinobi were blocked by the immense Amaterasu flames, and Akira turned to Sasuke and spoke.

Hearing this, Sasuke hesitated for a moment.

But after thinking it over, he eventually moved forward.

At this point, he understood that Itachi was destined to die today, and by personally seeing him off, he could at least grant Itachi a dignified end.

At least, Itachi would die at the hands of an Uchiha, thus perhaps atoning for the sin of slaughtering his own clan.

"Sasuke, come, let this be our final duel!" Itachi's vision had already blurred, but he shouted loudly.

In this final moment of his performance, Itachi knew exactly how to make the last scene impactful.

Sasuke's eyes narrowed slightly, and his Mangekyou spun briefly, with blood-tears rolling down his face. At the same time, his purple Susano'o emerged.

Itachi, too, summoned the last of his ocular power, activating his Susano'o.

One was purple, the other a crimson red. The two Susano'o faced each other, ready for their final confrontation.

The final act was well played, but the outcome was inevitable.

The battle didn't last long—after only a few exchanges, Itachi's energy was exhausted, and he finally fell, dying at Sasuke's hands.

Akira walked over unceremoniously, reaching down to retrieve the gourd-like Totsuka Blade.

In the original story, after Itachi's death, there was no clear explanation of what happened to the Totsuka Blade.

As one of the Kusanagi Swords, it was unlikely to vanish with Itachi's death.

But now, it was in Akira's possession.

With that, Akira's Susano'o finally had a suitable weapon.

Sasuke stood in place, his expression hollow.

He could hardly believe that Itachi had truly died at his hands.

Sasuke didn't harbor the same hatred as in the original story; killing Itachi was merely following the tide of destiny.

To personally kill the brother he had cared for the most—this left Sasuke deeply shaken.

If not for already possessing the Mangekyou, today's pain might have been enough to awaken it once again.

"I wonder how things are going with Naruto? Let's go check." Akira called out to Jiraiya, reminding him.

The Akatsuki members had retreated, but Naruto was still with Nagato, trying to use his Talk no Jutsu.

What if Naruto failed?

Wouldn't that mean the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki would be handed over just like that?

Hearing Akira's reminder, Jiraiya quickly snapped back to attention and hurried in the direction Naruto had gone.

"That idiot..." Sasuke also snapped out of his daze, a sense of concern for Naruto surfacing. He cursed quietly and ran after Jiraiya—there was no time to grieve over Itachi now.

To Sasuke, besides Itachi, Naruto had unconsciously become like a brother to him...

Therefore, knowing Naruto could be in danger, how could Sasuke just stay put?

"Sigh..." Seeing both Sasuke and Jiraiya rush away, followed by Tsunade, Akira shook his head silently, looking down at Itachi's body with a sigh.

Perhaps this ending was the best one for Itachi?

Even though the Uchiha Massacre never took place as it did in the original story, Itachi had still raised his hand against his clan.

Some mistakes can be atoned for.

But some fundamental wrongs cannot be undone, regardless of merit.

Even though Itachi had served as a spy within the Akatsuki for many years, contributing greatly to the Leaf Village, the sin of attacking his own clan could not be erased by any achievements.

So, in his final moments, using his life to wash away his sins, and gifting his Mangekyou Sharingan to the brother he loved most...

Perhaps this was the best ending for Uchiha Itachi.

Akira knelt beside Itachi, looking at his body. Even in death, there was a hint of a smile on Itachi's lips.

Clearly, he was at peace in his final moments.

Staring at Itachi's body, Akira couldn't help but feel a wave of complex emotions.

He remembered the time he first arrived in the Uchiha clan, filled with fear and anxiety about his future.

Knowing the original storyline well, Akira understood that without growing stronger, he wouldn't survive the Uchiha Massacre.

In the early days, even in simulations of his life, he often met his end at Itachi's hands.

It wasn't until later, when he became Shisui's disciple, that he truly started having significant contact with Itachi.

Even after Shisui's death, Akira awakened his own three-tomoe Sharingan while Itachi awakened his Mangekyou.

Later, Itachi entrusted Akira with Shisui's last two million ryo inheritance and even his Mangekyou Sharingan.

From the steel blade hanging over his head at the beginning to their shared experiences due to Shisui, and then finally being on the same side after the avoided Massacre Night...

Looking at Itachi's lifeless body, Akira was filled with countless emotions.

Much like in the original, Itachi's life had been full of tragedy and burdens.

However, at least in this life, he hadn't completely wiped out his clan. His burden was somewhat lighter than in the original.

"Alright, Akira, don't be sad..." Kakashi and Might Guy approached, sensing Akira's emotions, and spoke up.

"Got it." Akira nodded, taking a moment to regain his composure.

With that, he lifted his hand, a sealing scroll appearing in his palm.

Then, he carefully sealed Itachi's body into the scroll.

Kapitel 292: Chapter 292: Sasuke, Did You Know the Mangekyou Causes Blindness?

When Akira sealed away Itachi's body, everyone found his actions to be entirely reasonable.

After all, the shinobi clans valued their bloodline limits immensely and strictly prevented them from being taken by outsiders. If circumstances allowed, they would bring their clan member's body back, and if not, they would destroy it.

Otherwise, for clans like the Hyuga or the Uchiha, even a corpse would attract those eager to harvest their eyes.

Zetsu, hiding in the shadows, was actually distrustful of Itachi.

Considering Itachi's background as the eldest son of the current Hokage, Zetsu suspected that Itachi might be pretending to cover their retreat as an excuse to rejoin the Leaf Village. Therefore, on Obito's instructions, Zetsu used his stealth technique to monitor him.

To his surprise, the final outcome was Itachi's death at Sasuke's hands.

Not only that, but Itachi's body was also sealed within Akira's scroll.

A sealing scroll could only seal non-living objects, not the living—this was basic shinobi knowledge.

Weapons like swords and spears could be sealed, but living beings could not.

So when Akira sealed Itachi's body away, Zetsu was sure that Itachi was truly dead.

"It seems Uchiha Itachi really did sacrifice himself for our retreat," Black Zetsu said solemnly, his voice tinged with surprise.

"Yeah, I always found Itachi hard to figure out. Even now that he's dead, I still can't fully understand him," White Zetsu added, his tone much lighter, yet still marked by bewilderment.

"Alright, let's move. Regardless, Itachi used his life to buy us some time." With Itachi's fate confirmed, Zetsu saw no reason to stay any longer and gradually sank into the ground, disappearing from sight.

Elsewhere, Deva Path Pain and the others had already retreated, while Naruto was still in the cave, trying to talk Nagato into peace.

But it was at that moment that Jiraiya and the others barged in.

Jiraiya informed Naruto that the fight outside had ended, and that the Six Paths of Pain might arrive any moment, leaving no time for idle talk with Nagato.

Nagato's willingness to talk was clearly just a stalling tactic.

Hearing this, Naruto realized time was of the essence. Without further delay, he quickly left the cave with Jiraiya and the others. Although only the frail Nagato remained inside, he was still the real Pain, a wielder of the Rinnegan and capable of summoning the Gedo Statue. Even if they fought together, they weren't confident they could defeat him.

If they got dragged into a prolonged fight, the Six Paths of Pain could return at any time.

Therefore, Jiraiya led Naruto away.

Nagato simply watched them leave, making no attempt to stop them.

Nagato knew well enough that if Jiraiya and the others were intent on leaving, his current state would make it impossible to hold them.

Thus, Naruto and Jiraiya reunited with Akira and the others after leaving the cave.

To most of the other shinobi, today's battle was merely about defeating the Akatsuki, and they didn't see much in terms of achievement.

Only Itachi had been killed, and this attack on the Akatsuki wasn't considered a perfect victory.

But to Akira? His initial goal had been to transplant Itachi's Mangekyou to Sasuke.

Now, Itachi had followed the script he himself had written.

So, to Akira, the mission had been successfully accomplished.

After a half day's time, Nagato returned to the cave, and the surviving Akatsuki members regrouped there. They all had somber expressions.

The fact that Akira had launched an assault right into their headquarters unnerved all the Akatsuki members.

Usually, it was the Akatsuki attacking others—when had they ever been the ones under attack?

This was a bitter pill to swallow.

Moreover, now that their headquarters had been discovered, wouldn't they constantly have to worry about Akira and the others launching more attacks?

"Zetsu, you're back!" As various Akatsuki members voiced their opinions, Nagato spoke up.

Zetsu emerged from the ground, nodding, "I'm back. I saw Itachi's fate with my own eyes."

"Really? How is he?" Nagato asked.

"He stayed behind to cover our retreat, and he's dead. I saw it myself, and Akira even sealed his body in a scroll," Zetsu replied.

"So, Itachi really did die," Nagato sighed.

The other Akatsuki members had mixed expressions.

In the end, Itachi had died for the team, and this loyalty touched them deeply.

Most of them hadn't expected Itachi to go to such lengths, and his actions truly surprised them.

"Itachi, it seems I never really knew you," Kisame finally said, a note of sadness in his voice.

Many others nodded in agreement at Kisame's words.

Indeed, no one had thought that Itachi would sacrifice himself for the Akatsuki.

Normally, Itachi didn't show such a deep commitment to the organization.

It goes to show, sometimes it takes a crisis to reveal one's true nature.

"Alright, let's move on. Thanks to Itachi's sacrifice, we now need to be even more careful. We need to relocate the Akatsuki headquarters," Nagato said after a moment of silence.

"Right, we should start moving our base as soon as possible.

"It was just the Leaf's high-level shinobi this time.

"But what about next time? Could it be the entire Leaf Village attacking us?

"Or maybe even a full-scale assault by the Five Great Nations?"

"So, our top priority now is relocating the Akatsuki base."

As Nagato finished speaking, each Akatsuki member nodded in agreement.

Meanwhile, Akira and his team were on their way back to the Leaf Village. Over the past few days, Sasuke had been in low spirits.

Naruto noticed too and, for once, refrained from arguing with Sasuke. Instead, he even tried to create some silly distractions to lift Sasuke's mood.

But it didn't seem to work much.

After traveling for several days, one night, after finishing his chakra training, Akira glanced out the window at the moonlit sky.

He happened to see Sasuke leap onto the roof, sitting there alone, gazing at the moon.

"Sigh, looks like it's time to play the role of the caring big brother," Akira thought, sighing slightly to himself.

He then used Body Flicker to appear beside Sasuke and sat down as well.

"Akira, why do you think Itachi did it?" Sasuke turned to look at Akira, asking the question that had been weighing on his mind.

This was what had confused Sasuke for days.

How could Itachi raise a hand against the Uchiha clan but then sacrifice himself for the Akatsuki?

No matter how much Sasuke thought about it, he couldn't make sense of Itachi's actions.

"I don't want to talk about Itachi just yet. I want to discuss the Mangekyou Sharingan with you," Akira replied, looking at Sasuke.

"Mangekyou?" Sasuke turned his head, looking puzzled, clearly not understanding Akira's intent.

"Sasuke, tell me—it's been almost six months since you awakened your Mangekyou Sharingan. Have you noticed your vision becoming blurry sometimes?" Akira asked.

"Huh!?" Sasuke's face changed at Akira's words.

Indeed, recently his vision had been blurring occasionally. He originally thought it was due to fatigue or just a random occurrence. But hearing Akira's question, Sasuke's expression darkened. Could it be that this wasn't just a coincidence?

"The Mangekyou Sharingan grants great power, but it comes with a major drawback. The more you use it, the more your vision deteriorates, until eventually, you go completely blind," Akira said bluntly, noting Sasuke's reaction.
