Kapitel 27: WHERE IS GRANDMA?

"Old lady, that shouldn't be a problem as long as you cooperate and work closely with us in your treatment."

From Grandma's perspective, everything the doctor said sounded like a lie. Exasperated, she said, "Doctor, I am a patient and I have a right to know about my condition. Please be honest and tell me the truth. Look, my son is here too. Please tell us…"

«Yes, doctor. Please tell us."

The doctor did not exaggerate the severity of the grandmother's condition. Instead, he spoke clearly and in detail about her illness, including some of its characteristics and some symptoms to look out for in the later stages.

When they reached the door of the hospital room, Grandma suddenly felt faint. She reached out and reached wildly for Javier Santamarina's shoulder, tears streaming down her world-weary face. Soon, she would be dead!

If she did not undergo chemical treatment immediately, she would probably die before the end of the month.

She didn't want to die!

If she died now, what would happen to Amaranta?

Grandma shook her head. «Take me to the garden. "I want to go for a walk."

They walked towards the garden. The grandmother refused Javier Santamarina's help, and she walked alone at a slow pace. She felt as if a huge, heavy rock was weighing down her heart. She wanted to say something, but she didn't know what to say. Her thin figure cast a long shadow on the ground under the light of the street lights.

Javier Santamarina approached the grandmother's side and supported her by her arm. He said softly, "Mrs. Maria, please let me take care of Amaranta!"

Amaranta didn't bother trying to save money; she took a taxi to take her back to the bookshop.

The door to the bookshop was still open, so she pushed it open, causing the wind chime behind the wooden door to ring melodiously.

Johanna looked up from her laptop. Taking her glasses off the bridge of her nose, she looked towards Amaranta.

«Amaranta, why have you returned alone? Where is your grandmother?

Amaranta pulled up a chair and sat next to Johanna. After remaining silent for a moment, she said, "Mrs. Sáenz, my grandmother is sick. She has been hospitalized. I came back to tell him this and pick up a change of clothes…"

"Is what's happening to your grandmother serious?" Johanna asked quietly.

Amaranta nodded. "Yeah. It's cancer. The doctor said it has spread to her lungs!

»»Do you have the money to treat her?» Johanna Sáenz asked. These days, being hospitalized was the same as pouring money down a drain. It was a bottomless pit, with no end in sight.

«In the meantime, I have raised some funds. "I really want grandma to be treated, so if the money I have saved is not enough, I will have to think of another way to get enough money."

In reality, Amaranta had been assuming that maybe she should take the five thousand in the bank and take a chance on her account in the stock market. But, due to the state of the stock market, she was currently unsure… It was a very apprehensive time to invest in the stock market.

However, if she really had no other choice, she would have to resort to this method to raise the necessary funds.

«Amaranta, do you remember Mr. Daniel Exxo who came to dinner a few nights ago?»

The great director Daniel Exxo?

"I remember."

Johanna had originally planned to talk to her about this at a later time.

However, now that her grandmother had fallen ill, Amaranta Cid would probably hurriedly try to raise money for her treatment, and she had seen too many girls who had fallen down dark paths of no return because they had urgently needed money.

Amaranta was a decent girl, without bad intentions. Johanna didn't want her to end up like those poor girls. —«Mr. Daniel and I are planning to produce a movie, and we would like you to be the female lead.

Amaranta, as the female lead, we would pay you. Since you are a rookie, your salary wouldn't be that high, but I think it would be enough to pay for your grandmother's treatment. What do you think?

A Daniel Exxo movie?

Didn't this mean…? What, if she starred in this movie, would she become a "Golden Girl"?

«But I haven't taken any professional acting classes. Wouldn't that ruin the movie? —But she admitted it anyway, if she could act in one of Daniel Exxo's movies, it would be a good thing for her.

Realistically speaking, she couldn't think of any good reason to reject the offer.

«You don't need to worry about that. What worries me is whether you would be able to find the time to make this film. We have already started preparations for it, and we will most likely start filming in early June.

During that time, you would be waiting for your exams and being your grandmother's caregiver.

Sick. Would you be able to handle all those responsibilities? Furthermore, the university you aspire to is the most sought after in this country, you know that you have to make an effort in your studies for the admission exam…"

Amaranta clenched her fists. She was determined to take on all of this! Grandma's illness would be treated. And she would act in Daniel Exxo's film. As for Capital City University, she would make the grade and be accepted!

"I can do this!" —She responded, with a shine in her beautiful gray eyes, showing that determination that is only seen in beings who decide their lives, when they have it in their own hands, which is what Amaranta feels now, being able to say the life of she herself.

"Good. During this time, you should focus on taking care of your grandmother and preparing for exams. Find some time for you to come back here tomorrow to sign your contract. Once the contract is signed, I can pay you. That way, you will have the money to pay for your grandmother's treatment…"

Amaranta was very, very moved. He felt great to be alive. Everyone he met was a good and kind person.

Izan Marsans was one of them.

The owner of the homemade food restaurant was another.

And so was Mrs. Johanna Sáenz.

«Thank you very much, Mrs. Sáenz. You really are a lucky star in my life."

Johanna said: - «She is like my daughter. If my daughter were still alive, she would be about your age right now. Unfortunately, my daughter died at a very young age…"

»Mrs. Sáenz, let me call you godmother!»··

Amaranta raised her small face and said quietly: "I grew up without a mother. My grandmother was the one who raised me, with great difficulty. My grandmother is very good to me, but since I don't have a mother, all the other children in my village make fun of me for not having a mother.

I wish I was like them and had a mother who would pick me up from school and love me and care about me… however, I don't. I don't have a mother. Not only that, but I don't have a father. "I only have one grandmother."

Johanna wrapped Amaranta in a warm hug. «My dear daughter. As long as you are willing to accept me, I will gladly be your mother.

"Mother".

Amaranta had called her Mama. That word, that ordinary word, made Johanna burst into tears. She hadn't heard that word for so long.

Johanna wanted to let Grandma Mary know that Amaranta had recognized her as her godmother, so she drove to the hospital accompanying Amaranta. However, when they entered the room, the grandmother was not there. Suddenly, Amaranta felt incredibly scared.

Johanna was also puzzled. "Could the doctor have called Grandma?"

Prompted by Johanna's question, Amaranta remembered the doctor and went to his office. There, the doctor told him about the visit of his and Javier Santamarina's grandmother. Earlier, when he found that her grandmother was missing, he thought for a moment that her grandmother, not wanting to be a burden to her, had done something reckless.

Now, knowing that his grandmother was probably with Javier Santamarina, he breathed a sigh of relief.

«Mum, it's late. You must head home first. "I'll stay here and wait for grandma."

"I'll wait here with you," Johanna replied.

As usual, Johanna Sáenz was dressed in an elegant caftan. She seemed to have a special taste for Moroccan and Dubai clothing. As for Amaranta, he had never seen Johanna in anything but a caftan, always very elegant.

With her immaculate makeup and her caftan, which accentuated her curves, Johanna always presented a perfect image of elegance and calm.

Not wanting to involve Johanna Sáenz in her complicated relationship with Javier Santamarina, Amaranta told her: "Mum, that won't be necessary. "He'll probably bring grandma back soon."

After Johanna left, Amaranta walked to the window and looked out into the dark night, feeling nervous.

Her grandmother had found out about the seriousness of her illness…

"So what was her grandmother planning?"

—Would she agree to let Javier take her?

—No, she would not go to the Santamarina family.

Plus, she definitely didn't want to have anything to do with Ana Santamarina or Óscar Roing ever again.

She decided that, instead of waiting aimlessly, she would review her lessons. Javier Santamarina would probably bring grandma back into the room soon.

As a final-year student facing the upcoming university entrance exams, I was under immense pressure. Besides, she had made that bet with her crazy cousin, and there was no way she was going to let her win!

Amaranta sat next to the bed and began working on her practice questions, her pencil making scratching sounds as she wrote down her answers.

When she was reborn, these questions had seemed Greek to her. But now, after having gone through a long period of constant practice, she could confidently write the

Answer each question, learn from your mistakes and reinforce your learning.

It was already past midnight and there was still no sign of Grandma.

At this point, Amaranta had become increasingly nervous and restless!

What the hell were the grandmother and Javier Santamarina discussing?

Why did she have what...? Do this?

Amaranta stood in the elevator lobby. When he saw the elevator light flash as the elevator reached his floor, he ran towards the elevator doors. "Grandma…" he started to say.

The elevator doors opened, and standing inside it was not his grandmother, but Izan Marsans. He was wearing a white shirt, and his hair was a little messy, and there was a takeout bag in his hands.

Izan asked her, "Amaranta, what are you doing in the elevator lobby at this hour?"

Amaranta's eyes turned slightly red and a little watery as she replied, "I'm waiting for my grandmother. I returned to our temporary accommodation for a short visit, and when I returned here, Grandma was nowhere to be found! "I'm a little worried about her!"

"Why didn't you tell me as soon as you realized your grandmother was missing?"

Izan Marsans immediately grabbed Amaranta's wrist and took her to the elevator.
