Kapitel 12: THE DAY FINALLY ARRIVED TO GO TO THE CAPITAL CITY

Amaranta did the calculations in her head. Take the bus that night.

Naturally, the classroom teacher had also thought about this issue.

"Amaranta Cid, you should think this through carefully. Are you sure you want to go to the interview at the Capital Film Academy? Have you considered that if you can't arrive on time, you would be making a wasted trip?"

"I'm sure!"

Having estimated the travel time in his head, Amaranta decided that, although they would have to hurry, they should have no problem getting to the Film Academy in time for their interview.

And it didn't matter if she didn't show up to the interview on time.

After all, this trip to the capital city was for her grandmother to get a medical checkup.

"So, sir, can I take a leave of absence for a week or half a month, please?"

The homeroom teacher frowned. Recently, Amaranta Cid's schoolwork had just begun to show steady improvement. If she took time off now, would her work deteriorate?

"Sir, here is the real difficulty with my trip. I did some research online and found out that there are three interviews in total: the first one, once you pass that you are called to the second and the last one. Back to Capital University again, "I'm prepared to do my best in these interviews. Besides, my grandmother is getting older, and I want to take her there for a medical checkup."

Since Amaranta seemed to have ample reasons for requesting time off, the class teacher decided not to comment further.

"Okay, then. I'll ask Alberto Sánchez to compile recent study notes for you. Expect to have to work very hard when you return. If you plan to be away for half the month, that means you barely have two weeks before the exam." simulated…"

"I understand. Thank you, Mr. Rodriguez. I'll be out now."

Upon returning to the classroom, Amaranta recovered her school backpack, which she was next to Alberto Sánchez.

"Amaranta, class will start soon. Where are you going?"

"I have requested two weeks of leave. Alberto, regarding my request, please find out from me everything you can. I am out now. Expect good news from me, take care of yourself."

Shortly after Amaranta left, the class teacher entered the classroom, teaching manual in hand.

Standing on the podium, he faced the students and said: "Everyone, since Amaranta has been notified by the Capital City Film Academy about an impending interview, she has requested two weeks of leave. I hope that during this period, all of you do your best and study hard…"

Film Academy?

It was not a school that Deifont High School's third-year students were familiar with.

Most of the students did not even know that such a school existed.

Pencil in hand, Mariana Cid looked at the classroom teacher and asked, trying to appear innocent: "Sir, Capital City Film Academy, what kind of school is it?"

"Capital City Film Academy is our nation's only world-renowned film academy for professional actors…."

"Sir, can I also apply to enroll in the academy?" Mariana raised her hand and asked.

The classroom teacher replied, "Well, the Film Academy's recruitment campaign has ended. However, if you are interested in pursuing this, please come see me later. I think the recruitment campaign at the Cervantes Institute of Theater Studies is still open. That's all. So, if any of you have any more questions, please see me later. "Now, let's start our lesson."

It being Market Day, the streets of Deifont City were full of people.

Since the Deifont bus station was very small, buses usually stopped for no more than ten minutes.

If I missed the bus that day, I would have to wait another two days for the next one.

Amaranta first went to buy bus tickets. Having bought the bus tickets, Amaranta went to look for her grandmother.

Her grandmother was sitting on a street corner, a tray displaying stencils in a multitude of colors in front of her.

Aunt Carmen was sitting next to her grandmother and was talking to her.

Outraged by Aunt Carmen's shameless and despicable behavior, Amaranta called her grandmother: "Grandma."

Aunt Carmen raised her head and, seeing Amaranta's pretty face, she said awkwardly: "Oh, Amaranta. Shouldn't you be at school at this time? Have you played tag again?"

At Aunt Carmen's words, the other merchants around her looked at Amaranta, all with accusatory eyes, saying the same thing: Why are you being such a thoughtless and immature girl? Are you making life miserable?

That's what you

Everyone was thinking.

Helping her grandmother pack, Amaranta scolded Aunt Carmen. "Aunt Carmen, how can you tarnish another person's reputation without reflecting on the consequences of your words? As for why I'm not at school, why don't you ask your beloved daughter Marianita during lunch? Today is market day. Why don't you worry about your own shop instead of coming here to find my grandmother's caretaker in the future?"

"Young lady, your aunt is right. You are a girl, so you will eventually get married. Surely you can't be by your grandmother's side all the time?!" — a woman commented, having nothing to do with the conversation.

"Isn't it nice to be freed from the burden of having to take care of your grandmother with your aunt's offer to be her caregiver?" Another merchant asked sarcastically.

Amaranta Cid only limited herself to helping her grandmother get up and when she was about to make a rebuttal, when just at that moment she felt her grandmother gently pat her hand, as if to tell her to stop talking.

"Comrades, this sun is too hot. Sell your products quickly and get home soon!"

Amaranta supported her grandmother as they walked away together. Seeing the grandmother and granddaughter leave the scene, Aunt Carmen exclaimed: "My Aunt Mary is an old woman who is already very confused! Skills and always stays away from school, what does my aunt have to expect from that Girl? Please tell me, aren't I trying to do something good here?

She asks scandalously, waving her hands, making gestures with emphasis, so that all the other women in the market would pay more attention to her — Why is it that, in her eyes, I have become the bad person? I surrender. I'm not going to waste my time with them.

In time, she will shed rivers of tears, she will regret not listening to me and letting me take care of her and her house…"

After they had walked a little, the grandmother asked: "Amaranta, shouldn't you be at school? Why did you come back?"

"Grandma, we have to go to the capital city. The Film Academy has asked me to go for an interview. We have to hurry!"

"In that case, you go home and pack while I go buy the tickets."

The grandmother looked like she was about to hand over her things to Amaranta and prepare to head to the bus station to buy the tickets.

"Grandma, I already bought them."

Very softly, Amaranta whispered, "I saved all the money you gave me. I didn't spend unnecessarily."

"Good girl, my very conscientious girl."

The ticket was for that night at 11 pm sharp.

The couple went home to pack up and get some rest, and then headed to the bus station.

Between them, Amaranta and her grandmother had very little luggage: just a change of clothes and the deposit book that showed no more than five thousand euros.

The grandmother had insisted that Amaranta bring the deposit book along with them. "Poor at home, rich on the road," her grandmother said, explaining that while she was poor in her own home, one needed money on hand to feel safe when away from home.

The bus will be here soon!

As they left the bus station, Amaranta and her grandmother noticed rows and rows of young men standing at the station.

"Grandma, let's join the end of the line."

"Young lady."

A man dressed in a white t-shirt walked towards Amaranta and asked her:

"Where are you going?"
