Kapitel 37: BREAKING WORLD

"Ohh fuck! Oh fuck."

Faux heaved as he clutched onto his restless chest. Far behind him was a searing heat incinerating the frozen scape with its Calamitous red ray.

Faux turned to get a good look at where he had been only a couple of seconds ago. It had already turned to ash. The Calamity had released its spell and spewed red hot rays as it slowly rose its head.

The molten hot ray ate through the mountain even incinerating a part of the manor as it stretched up high. Anywhere the Calamity gazed at turning to nothing but ash.

Soon the Calamity had its blood-red eyes gazing right at the sky. The once cloudy plain that veiled the Torn mountains gave way to the searing heat of the Calamitous ray.

Faux's face paled at the sight. Even for a Paladin, this was too remarkable of a sight.

It looked like a rebellious god was splitting the heavens open with its spiteful glare.

As the heavens parted five similarly red rays shot into the sky bordering the Calamity's ray– albeit much less blinding than the larger ray.

These smaller rays broke into a net of cracks, the largest ray at the centre was now spring into an abyss littered with bright stars as the smaller rays shattered the very fabric of space.

It was almost like the heavens were falling, large pieces of the broken sky hung forlornly in the air.

Gazing upon this scene almost split Faux's mind in half. Immediately he turned to his gloved hands and kept his eyes on them.

He was now kneeling on snow with one of his hands clutching onto his chest while the other was held tightly around a menacingly curved blade.

Staring at his other sword– the shorter of his two blades. Faux couldn't help but let out a faint smile.

This blade had just saved his life. While he was battling the Calamity he had thrown this blade to the side while he fought and teleported slowly with his great sword.

He had left this other blade in the snow as a contingency. So I'm the last moments when the Calamity ray was about to turn him to ash, Faux had pulled on the last bit of Will he had and soon he found himself kneeling in the snow.

He couldn't even imagine what would have happened to him if he was even a moment too slow. Even till now, he was still a bit shaken, his hands were clutched tightly to the grip of his blade unwilling to let it go. Like if he did he would suddenly be burnt to ash.

The ominous energy that spilt from the gap in the sky wasn't helpful either. Faux couldn't remember the last time he was ever this afraid.

He had been in a lot of fights but none at this scale. In fact, he had only turned a Paladin a couple of months ago and since then he had only witnessed the battle– not fall, of a Calamity once.

'Maybe I did get a bit over my head.'

Faux thought with a nervous smile. Although he had performed excellently well at containing the beast a part of him felt like if he wasn't battling an illborn then maybe he would have truly died.

"So death is this close to me."

He chuckled as he finally let go of the blade. It took all the little strength he could muster. Now he was sitting on the snow watching the Calamity rip the heavens apart.

He tried his best to keep his eyes off the scene above, choosing instead to peer at the Calamity and the trees it towered over.

"To what end…"

Faux muttered. He just couldn't understand what all this was about no matter how much he thought about it. It was already obvious that this was the main reason behind the attack. Everything was brought for this exact reason, from luring the ill-born Caspian out of the manor, to distracting them with a horde of their own men and abominations.

This was what it was leading to, but it still begged the question of why and by whom.

Just then he recalled Sebastian's talk about the saboteur. His Lieutenant had claimed not to recognize the lady– much to Faux's surprise.

If Sebastian couldn't tell who she was it meant that her file was even more classified than either Sebastian… and Faux had access to.

"And there's the fact that she had been hiding underneath our noses all this time."

Surely the government would flip on its head after all this is uncovered. The fact that he hadn't radioed back to them after so long, could mean that a squad was on its way.

Till then he could just lay in the snow.

But why should he?

He had no idea how his Lieutenant was faring and there was still the Calamity's spell and Makima deal with.

"Damn it!"

Faux cursed as he reached out to Sebastian.

'Kid, where are you?'

He asked.

It took some time but his voice soon came through, but it sounded stressed.

'I'm still at the orphanage Sir.'

Faux looked over at the burning manor on the other side of the mountain, his face paled a little asked again;

'A–Are you alive?'

'Yes, Sir I'm just a bit occupied at the moment!'

'And the children?'

'…They are going through the tunnels right now.'

Faux seemed to ponder for a bit before he spoke again;

'…Listen kid I don't know you're going to do it but I need you east right now… does kids aren't safe.'

With that he cut the connection, his Will was far too depleted to continue.

"Haaa…"

Faux sighed as he raised his eyes to stare right at the Calamity.

It still had red hot Calamitous Will spewing from its eyes, its four limbs were tightly clutching the snow. Faux could see the muscles underneath the pale bone-white hide stiffen viably.

In all honesty, the thing didn't look good. For a moment Faux almost felt a little sorry for the young boy trapped inside… almost.

As He stared emotionlessly as the Calamity poured out its Will Faux noticed something.

Bone white hide of the Calamity had begun to peel off. Slowly the Calamity was breaking into bright red flakes.

"…He's dying."
