Lucian awoke to the sound of distant bells ringing through the small village. The sound wasn't one of celebration, but of warning. He was on his feet in an instant, reaching for his sword. The peaceful respite they had found at the inn was shattered in a heartbeat.

Selene was already at the door, her keen senses having picked up the disturbance even before Lucian had stirred. "We need to move," she said urgently. "They've found us."

Lucian's mind raced. The church's forces had managed to track them down despite all precautions. He cursed under his breath, quickly donning his armor. The rest of the group was also stirring, their expressions grim but focused. They had all known this peace couldn't last, but none had expected the church to strike so soon.
