Kapitel 10: Chapter 10: The Lawyer's Assistant

The next day, Hobert arrived at Backlund University in high spirits, though his mind was far from the classroom. He was constantly thinking about finding time to explore the "Nation of Disorder" again. It was like a child receiving a beloved toy, always wanting to play with it.

Especially since he had thought of some ways to try entering the "Nation of Disorder" actively, rather than passively in his sleep, making him even more restless.

Finally, in the afternoon, his close friends, Bishop and Eula, invited him to have afternoon tea.

Without thinking, Hobert declined, "Sorry, I need to go to the equipment room."

The upper society of the Loen Kingdom had a habit of having afternoon tea, available even in Backlund's school cafeteria. Hobert had gone with Bishop before, where the cheapest tea set still cost 2 soli and 3 pence.

To him, it was just a cup of tea and two plates of snacks, which could get him a steak in a decent restaurant outside the school.

The key point was that no one wanted the cheapest set in school. Students like Hobert had to spend 3 to 4 soli on afternoon tea, and getting the cheapest would lead to ridicule.

So Hobert avoided it whenever he could. He wasn't in the habit of having afternoon tea, so why spend money on it?

At this moment, Hobert recalled that his adoptive father, Christian, had mentioned that his biological father left him a substantial inheritance, but it hadn't been passed on to him.

Eula smiled, "Hobert, you've been acting strange lately. You used to love having afternoon tea and said it reflected a gentleman's elegance and taste."

I must have been out of my mind back then, Hobert thought bitterly. But he also remembered how important college connections were in this world, so he decided to maintain his relationship with them.

Hobert said, "I'll let you in on a secret. My father is friends with Barton, a senior lawyer at the 'Aslan-Barton' law firm. My father has arranged for me to be Barton's assistant this week.

"I didn't mention it before because it wasn't confirmed. Now it's certain, and I'm quite anxious and nervous, so I can't relax for afternoon tea."

Bishop laughed, "Hobert, this is a great opportunity! Lawyer Barton is one of the top lawyers in Backlund. If you do well as his assistant, I believe you'll be qualified to appear in court within three to five years."

The Loen Kingdom had two types of courts: the magistrate's court and the formal court (also known as the criminal court or the noble court). Assistants could only attend the magistrate's court, while lawyers and senior lawyers could attend the formal court.

However, the formal court was usually the battleground for senior lawyers, while ordinary lawyers mainly operated in the magistrate's court.

Bishop referred to the formal court. With enough connections and resources, and Hobert's hard work, he could soon become a formal lawyer in the legal sense.

Hobert smiled, "I hope I'm that lucky."

Eula added, "But Hobert, you've still been acting strange lately. You used to often praise the Goddess, but now you haven't mentioned Her once today."

Christian's family were followers of the Goddess EverNight, and so was Hobert. However, he wasn't used to praising the Goddess for everything.

Moreover, over the past month, he had prayed to the Goddess several times, hoping She would help eliminate his madness. But it seemed the Goddess was too busy to respond.

So, he became reluctant to praise the Goddess anymore.

Hobert smiled, "Strong faith often lies deep within the heart."

Eula nodded, "Emperor Roselle said that, and it makes a lot of sense."

Hobert felt an urge to cover his face. The Emperor never missed a chance to outshine others. "Alright, you two, don't let me keep you from your tea. When I get my first paycheck, I'll treat you to a meal at a restaurant."

"It's a deal!" Bishop grinned.

"It's a deal." Hobert watched his friends leave before heading to the secluded equipment room.

He tried silently repeating "Open Sesame" a few times, but nothing happened. Then, he used the meditation technique Christian had taught him, bringing himself to a state of emptiness, but still couldn't connect with the "Nation of Disorder."

Finally, he tried a third method, stepping forward while reciting, "Blessed Celestial Lord; Blessed Celestial Prince; Blessed Celestial God; Blessed Celestial Sovereign." (TL/N: I Honestly forgot what Klein says to get in the Sefirah Castle so anyone who remembers let me know)

After reciting these four incantations, Hobert's vision was swallowed by black tides. Before he could struggle, he saw the Iron Throne he had designed.

Looking back, he realized he had entered from the black pool, and the blurred figure he had trapped there was still in its place.

Success!

The "Nation of Disorder" shared the same "password" as the "Sefirah Castle"!

Hobert then realized that the "Nation of Disorder" had been sealed by the Celestial Sovereign, so using the "Sefirah Castle" entry method bypassed the seal.

When Klein came to this world, he had formed a subtle connection with the "Sefirah Castle," and Hobert had done the same with the "Nation of Disorder" upon his arrival.

It was a kind of binding, a link from destiny to the "astral body" or soul, key to entering the "source quality."

Understanding this and knowing how to enter the "Nation of Disorder" actively, Hobert left the place. Being in school, he couldn't guarantee that no one would interrupt him in the secluded equipment room.

After school, the butler, Walker, came to help Hobert with his leave of absence. Hobert informed a few professors of his new direction and hoped to seek their help if he encountered difficulties in the future.

Faced with such a promising student, the professors were happy to agree to keep in touch with Hobert through letters.

After saying goodbye to Bishop and Eula again, Walker took Hobert to the "Aslan-Barton" law firm, where he met senior lawyer Barton Stanley.

This firm was co-founded by Aslan and Barton, both renowned lawyers in Backlund who had resolved many disputes for nobles and wealthy individuals.

Barton, in his forties, had light yellow hair, deep blue eyes, and a gaze as sharp as an eagle's.

"I was a comrade of your father," he said. "I know why he sent you here."

With that, Barton picked up a folder from his desk, "This is an open-and-shut case. Tomorrow, you'll go to the magistrate's court as the plaintiff's lawyer."

He concluded meaningfully, "Reflect well on how to be a good lawyer."

While expressing his gratitude, Hobart thought, "Is the acting method this widespread?"

Christian, having reached the rank of brigadier general in his thirties, must have known about the acting method. But he didn't expect Barton to know as well. This senior lawyer must also be Beyonder.

Hobert suddenly laughed at himself, realizing it was likely Christian who told Barton about the acting method.

Reflecting on his fate, Hobert thought, "The wheel of destiny rolls on, and now I've become a lawyer's assistant."
