Kapitel 10: Chapter 10: Brutal Training

The next day, after much inquiry, Jack found a small philanthropist, Hago Veseli.

There are at least hundreds of benefactors in Astapor. Among them, the great benefactors may have thousands of Unsullied, while the small benefactors often have only dozens.

In addition, there are various slaves in Astapor, including bed slaves, technical slaves, ship slaves, etc., which saves Jack the time of going to Yunkai and Meereen.

After being introduced by an informant, Jack met the kind master at Pride Square.

Amber skin, wide nose, black eyes and dark red hair, a very typical Astaporian appearance.

Most of the Astapori are descendants of the ancient Ghis.

Most have amber skin, broad noses, dark eyes, and black or dark red hair, or the red and black mixture unique to the Gujis.

Free Astapor nobles customarily wear tokar robes, a symbol of nobility.

Their hair was greasy and oddly shaped, and they wore yellow silk cloaks with copper plates sewn on them, signifying their status.

Their robes were embroidered with silk threads, and from the waist down they wore sandals and pleated linen skirts.

"Hello, are you Jack Poseidon?"

"Yes, I heard that you have some Unsullied at a reasonable price, so I came to take a look."

Jack also knew Valyrian, and although he couldn't write it, he had absolutely no problem communicating.

This was one of the few things his father could teach him.

"Of course, the price is absolutely cheap. I wonder how much you want to buy?"

"700 gold coins."

"700 gold coins? Okay, my Defiler is outside the Pride Square, I'll take you to see it." Hago said with a smile.

Seven hundred gold coins was a considerable sum for a small slave owner like him.

Newgate explained to Jack: "Astapor has three famous squares, Pride Square, Punishment Square and the Arena."

Pride Square was an open market where slave owners brought their customers to view their slaves.

In the center of the square is a red brick fountain with a bronze statue of the Harpy of Astapor.

The Square of Punishment, located just inside the main gate of Astapor, was where new slaves were brought into the city.

Slaves who rebelled would be punished or executed there.

The Colosseum is a place where entertainment activities are held.

These included girls fighting bulls and children covered in honey and other food fighting bears, with those watching placing bets on which child the bear would eat first.

The arena would then be named after the victorious slave's master.

Jack's eyelids twitched. No wonder Daenerys wanted to liberate this place.

For freemen and nobles, this was paradise.

But for slaves, hell might be better than here.

Thankfully, Daenerys didn't have the education that Jack went through.

Otherwise, she would definitely crucify all slave owners, no matter how much anyone tried to persuade her.

"I have 62 Unsullied in my hand. I'll charge you 25 gold coins for each one, for a total of 28 Unsullied. I'll also give you two bed slaves and a boat slave. You're welcome!"

Hago said confidently that no one sold the Unsullied cheaper than he did.

Normally, an Unsullied costs at least 27 gold coins.

And he only wants 25 gold coins, which is a very sincere price indeed.

The Unsullied are castrated slave warriors who are trained in Astapor from childhood. Their characteristics are absolute obedience to their masters and fearlessness in the face of war.

They are widely used as guards in the Free Cities.

They sold them by the hundred or the thousand, and of course, the small slave owners would sell them by the ten.

They were excellent guards and never robbed or raped.

They have their own unique beliefs and goddess, whose real name they keep secret, and outsiders call her the Lady of the Spear, the Bride of War, and the Matron of the Army.

The most famous battle of the Unsullied was the Battle of Qohor, in which only 3,000 Unsullied resisted the attack of more than 50,000 elite soldiers led by Khal Temo.

Jack didn't say anything, but looked at this group of Unsullied carefully, just like in an American TV series.

The Unsullied wear no ornaments. A sewn tunic, a short sword, three spears, a shield, and a spiked helmet are all that is needed.

The more spikes on a spiked helmet, the higher the rank of the wearer. One spike represented an ordinary soldier, while three spikes represented a high-ranking officer.

Seeing that Jack was silent, Hago thought that Jack was considering it, so he started to introduce Jack:

"We select young male slaves according to their size, speed and strength, and train them to be Unsullied.

Training begins at age 5, every day from dawn to dusk.

The training process is brutal, not only teaching them how to fight, but also erasing all of their personality, emotions, and ego.

They are completely castrated, and the remains are then burned to ashes at the altar of the Lady of the Spear.

They took the wine of courage regularly to dull the pain.

They decide their names for the day by randomly drawing name tags from a bucket.

Each name tag has two words written on it, one representing the color and the other representing the worm, such as "gray worm".

As long as one of the training failed, the slaves would be killed. In the end, only one-third of the slaves could persevere to the end and become Unsullied.

On the day a boy was castrated, he was given a puppy to raise.

At the end of the first year of training, the boy had to strangle the puppy.

If he failed to do so, he was killed and his body became dog food.

During a day of running with weights, nighttime rock climbing, walking through burning charcoal, and so on, failure will be eliminated.

Finally, in order to obtain the spiked helmet of the Unsullied, they must go to the slave market wearing silver masks.

Then they buy a newborn and kill it in front of its mother, and then compensate the newborn's owner for his loss."
