Five days later, at Max's hotel room.
1.2. 3...20,
, "done full set, Let's switch, Lucy."
Currently, Lucy is flying while holding Max's right hand. Max was dangling in the air, his feet not touching the ground. Lucy put Max on the ground and then held his left arm, flying up with him. "1, 2, 3..." Max is doing pull-ups while Lucy holds him.
After Lucy's sudden increase in strength, she found it difficult to control her power, which led to her accidentally breaking things and causing a lot of damage, also making a lot of noise.
Max didn't want the attention, so he worked with her to find a way for her to learn how to control her newfound strength faster .
Max had several ideas on how to help her learn to control her power more quickly. However, the problem was that Lucy had trouble focusing. The only way Max found to help her focus was to let her assist him with his workout. Because she didn't want to accidentally harm Max, she became extremely careful and focused during their work out together.
After their workout session ended, Max complimented Lucy, saying, "You did a good job, little Lu; you can go have fun now." Lucy nodded happily, then rushed to the TV and sat next to the indignant bound-up pigeon.
Max shook his head and went to the bathroom.
After freshening up, he took his coffee onto the balcony.
While relaxing, he opened the simulator.
Lately, it had become a hobby of his to read all the super-secret knowledge of the universe recorded in the simulator. Since the simulator had judged his situation as dangerous, over 90% of the database inside the simulator became available for his browsing.
...
"An interesting article caught Max's eye, and he started reading.
Is the universe truly endless? I, Bombada the Third, have just figured it out.
I am using the Golden Badge of Science to publish this article on every single device, making it available to every single person in our civilization.
Last day I received the news of my son's death. Yes, the same son you all know as a genius who gave up on science and desired adventure and exploration.
What you do not know is that it was me who helped him 500,000 years ago. My son went to the border of the known universe and kept exploring forward for the entirety of his life. Due to a special ability, I, his father, was able to retrieve his diary. I spent last night reading it, a total of 600 trillion words. After reading it, I made my judgment: the universe is indeed endless for us."
.....
I will not explain much because I am certain you will be able to come to the same judgment as myself after reading my son's diary.
What I am concerned about is the fact that the universe has the unfathomable attribute of endlessness. Then why is the will of the universe so weak? In the past years, we came into conflict with the will of the universe multiple times, but it strikes me as weird that something we attribute to endlessness can be so weak to the point that it's dealt with by a bunch of people who cannot comprehend endlessness.
This morning, I did some experiments, adding the knowledge gained from my son's diary.
I confirmed that the will of the universe, as well as the will of the world, is just a different type of life form.
More importantly, the will of the universe cannot govern the entire universe, just a tiny portion of it, which is the known universe to us.
These life forms are Just parasites, not the same Almighty image we forced on ourselves.
.....
Pfft,!.
Max spat out the coffee in his mouth. This news is too shocking.
But what made Max flabbergasted is this bombada...
Good guy, you get the news at noon, read everything at night, research everything the next morning, conduct experiments, then publish everything at noon. Isn't this guy too formidable?.
"Sigh, as expected of the civilization behind the simulator".
No longer in the mood for reading.
Max sat next to Lucy, watching TV with her.
Still the same works from before.
due to certain considerations, he hadn't updated her teaching materials. In the last simulation, Lucy exhibited greater strength than expected, such as with the water control thing, adding the odd behavior from the humans there.
Max suspected that there might be something wrong with the mountain, possibly indicating the presence of some kind of treasure.
Now that Lucy is stronger, she might be able to gain something .
At that moment, a knock disturbed Max's thought process. In the past few days, Max had not left home because he didn't want anyone to know about Lucy. He planned to show himself as little as possible to avoid being found. He even made sure no hotel worker had access to his room.
"Go to the bedroom and don't come out until I tell you to," Max instructed Lucy.
annoyed, she left for the bedroom with a cute pout.
the pigeon in hand.
Opening the door, a short-haired young woman with blue eyes and black hair greeted Max. She was wearing a black-and-white uniform with a star emblem on it. The woman smiled and spoke first. "My name is Romi; I believe you are John, right?".
"No, you got the wrong person," Max answered instinctively, shaking his head, completely forgetting his name in this world.
Max quickly realized his mistake, but managed to keep a straight face.
Romi held a tablet in her hand that displayed Max's information and photo, looking down at the photo, then up at max. Her mouth twitched slightly.
Showing the tablet to him. "Isn't this you?" she asked, pointing at the tablet.
"Yes, that's me; I thought you were looking for another John," Max replied half-heartedly..
Romi ignored Max's attitude and continued speaking, "I am here on behalf of Star Tower..."
"Wait!" Max interrupted.
"Are you here to recruit me?"
"Yes," she responded, clearly irritated by the interruption. "Look, I respect Star Tower, but I must inform you that I am already in talks with another organization. I've practically finalized the contract and I'm committed to them. I believe I will be officially joining them in a few weeks ".
Max knew that if he gave a vague answer or declined without explanation, Romi would persist and might even investigate him, potentially uncovering secrets he wanted to keep hidden, like some novel plot.
Max wouldn't have any of that. He already planned to lie low for some time, so he was determined to shut down any recruitment attempts from the start.
Romi was taken aback for a moment, then nodded in disappointment.
"I understand. Here's my business card. Please call me if you change your mind," she said.
Although she said so, she didn't have any hope; Max's attitude was firm, indicating he had already made his choice.
More importantly, she could sense an F-rank presence from his bedroom - most probably someone from the organization that recruited Max.
"Can I know who it is that got to you first, of course, if it's convenient?" she asked.
"I am sorry, but I can't inform anyone, at least not until the contract is signed."
"In that case, I will excuse myself. Sorry for wasting your time," Romi said as she nodded in understanding and left. From beginning to end, Max didn't even let her get inside the room.
As he closed the door, he was deep in thought: 'If nothing goes wrong, Lucy should reach E rank in three simulations. By then, I can leave the city and head outside of human territory.'
"Lucy, you can go out now."
No response.
"Lucy."
Walking to the bedroom, Max found Lucy hiding something under the carpet.
Looking at Max, Lucy was panicking. She started flying around Max, seemingly wanting to distract him.
Max just laughed at her shenanigans. "Little Lu, that's not how you hide something; just show me what you broke this time. I won't be angry."
Lucy's little shoulders slumped down as Max lifted the carpet.
Max was confused, looking at a pile of feathers!
"Huh, where did you get this from?".
Lucy just hid her face in her little hands.
Looking around, Max figured it out as his eyes widened, seeing the current featherless pigeon.
Max just left the bedroom, not wanting to participate in torturing the poor pigeon. Lucy anxiously flew after him.
"Seemingly wanting to explain that it wasn't her fault, but the pigeon who started it.
The pigeon took one off first, and then you, being curious about how it would look without them, helped the pigeon take the rest off. Feeling Lucy's thoughts from their spiritual link.
Max felt sincerely sad for the poor pigeon. 'Buddy, it's your fault for bullying my little she-devil. Don't blame me.'"
