Indeed, the aliens held back and did not attack as fiercely as the first. Strangely, the military personnel moved in accordance with the alien's movements. They immediately rushed in to shoot at the aliens. But none of their bullets hit a vital part. Lance had witnessed how hard and thick the skins of the aliens were. So these shots are useless, but the aliens acted as if they were hit fatally.
Lance begins to doubt that these two sides are actually communicating and working together. The aliens are there to attack survivors. Not to kill but to test them. If the group were too scared to put up a fight, they would be eliminated. If they are brave enough to face these strange aliens, then the military will put an act of saving them.
As Lance watched the scene unfold, he was more convinced that his doubts were true.
