Kapitel 54: Silence

[The Red Keep, Two Months Later....]

(Third Person POV)

Inside the library, Princess Myrcella sat on a table, reading what looked like an old book. She was alone, in the library, Ser Barristan Selmy stood guard outside the library's door, silently. The Princess preferred to read alone and the Old Knight was more than sure nothing would happen to her.

The Princess's serene purple eyes were laid on the contents of the book, an old text that was written during Aegon III's reign. For some reason, she felt an urge to read about that certain part of History.

"Hm...." Myrcella said as she flipped the page, "This is more than interesting...Quite interesting...."

The doors to the library opened and Ser Barristan walked in, "My Princess, Lord Varys is here to see you." He said

Myrcella looked up, "Oh, let him in." She said, "Close the door and don't let anyone else in, Ser."

Barristan nodded as Lord Varys walked in, stopped and bowed slightly at the Kingsguard before looking at the Princess.

"Ah, here you are, my Princess." He said with a slight smile

Barristan closed the door behind him and as he did so, the Master of Whispers slowly made his way to the Princess and pulled a chair to the table.

"Lord Varys, what whispers do you bring me?" She asked with a smile

"Well, you'd be somewhat pleased to know that Rhaegon is allegedly leaving Dorne within the incoming weeks. The King has once again summoned him to King's Landing." He said, "But...."

Myrcella raised an eyebrow, "And....?"

"The whispers are true, Princess." He said as he sat down, "The Alliance with Dorne is secured. Rhaegon Baratheon is confirmed to have the Sand Snakes as his Paramours. Surely, some ripples are bound to shake up the Realm but it is taken far better than expected."

Myrcella frowned with disappointment, "Oh..." She said softly, "That's....good...for him, I guess."

Varys leaned in with a slight smile, "But, Princess, these are just Paramours. There is no way that Robert will accept illegitimate grandchildren; they're not married." He said, "There is still a chance. Besides, if your Grandfather pulls his strings correctly and without issue, Your Father might well betroth the two of you."

Myrcella placed her face on the book, "But I don't wanna marry him because my Grandsire orchestrated it!" She said, "I love him, Lord Varys, I really do!"

Varys smiled, "Well, Princess, Rhaegon is a complicated young man." He said, "From a young age, he's known nothing but freedom and has cherished it. He's one of the most fortunate souls in the world; he's had a Dragon since birth, was gifted a powerful body and martial skill through his Father's blood, has a Mother who would do extreme things for him, and well, his Uncle is The King. And Rhaegar loves him dearly. Rhaegon has always focused his attention on himself and his freedom but now, he'll turn it to the most important matters, the Realm....and his Heart."

Myrcella straightened up, "His Heart?"

"I've observed Rhaegon closely since his childhood." He said, "As you are aware, his Mother and I are quite close friends, like I am with you. Rhaegon Baratheon is not aware of his true feelings. Sure, he will tell you that he loves nothing but being free the most and while that is true, what else does he want? Who else does he love? Even he is not aware. And while you don't want to manipulate him, this is your opportunity to make him fall for you. Not for your grandsire's goals, but for you. Do you want him? Take him. Well, in the good way, that is."

"He's not stupid." Myrcella pouted, "He'll think it's my Mother and Grandsire's words....no matter what I tell him.....Ah....I just don't want to be married off to some Lord.....I told Mother if I were to be married off to someone who's not Rhaegon, I rather it be the Starks or something, Rhaegar and Lord Stark are good friends."

"Ah, well, your Aunt beat you to it." Varys chuckled, "But may I ask what you're doing here? Reading?"

"Yes, I was so caught up in thought, thinking of how Rhaegon and mine children will look." She said while blushing, "I cannot help but think it..."

"Ah, well such is the mind of young maiden that is in love." Varys said, "And what did you find?"

"Rhaegon looks exactly like his father because Baratheon blood is arguably thicker than Targaryen blood." She said, "Aunt Shaena is pure Targaryen, that is."

"Well, if we're to be specific, there's some mixing in bloodlines in the lineage, but yes, to an extent." Varys said, "Robert's Grandmother was Targaryen so Rhaegon's blood should be around equal."

"My hair is blonde, because of my Mother's blood." Myrcella continued, "But I have my father's eyes and his mark. Would our children have Rhaegon's appearance since he's Baratheon?"

"Hm..." Varys said, "That is a good question."

"Would the Realm be okay with a Targaryen that has no white hair nor purple eyes?" She asked

"They're okay with Rhaegon." Varys replied, "Yes, he's Baratheon, but he's a dragonrider. The only reason they're okay with it is because Robert has Targaryen blood and is the Storm Lord."

"But still..." Myrcella said

"I have read several years worth of careful studying by the Maesters of the Citadel." Varys said, "They explain that sometimes the hair color often skips a generation. This isn't the case with Baratheon blood but with Targaryens, it's quite common, especially if they're not intermarrying. A white-haired Targaryen man could marry say, a black-haired dornish woman. Their children could have different colored hair but most definitely the Targaryen eyes, unless they have the white hair and the mother's eyes, if that makes sense. The Point is, we don't know if your children will have your hair, they could very well have your Father's hair."

"B-but..." Myrcella said, "If they have my father's hair and my eyes.....and none of Rhaegon's features....won't people suspect anything? I would never be unfaithful to him!"

Varys chuckled, "That could cause some stir." He said, "But I think it's best if the children would have black hair. You're thinking awfully ahead of things, Princess."

She blushed, "I love him..." She said as she twirled her hair around her fingers

Varys looked at the book, "That's not about Baratheon features..." He said, "Is that the text written by Aegon III? Aegon, The Broken he was called."

"Oh, yes." She said, "I moved on to reading about our lineage. It's interesting, to say the least. We all descend from Aegon, The Conqueror, in a way. But it's the events that lead up to this moment that make History so interesting.."

"Hm, Yes." Varys said, "Aegon III was crowned right after the brutal civil war, the Dance of The Dragons."

"His Father was an incredible man.....he reminds me of Rhaegon..." Myrcella smiled, "Aerion Targaryen."

"Aerion, The Mighty. Aerion, The Crimson Dragon. The Bronze Dragon Lord." Varys said, "A man with many names, son of Daemon Targaryen and Rhea Royce. Arguably the greatest figure of that Era. He was the Warrior incarnate, they say. Aemon The Dragonknight fashioned himself after Aerion but eventually became better, so they say."

"Another person, the first Pretender King, Daemon Blackfyre...." Myrcella said, "They said he fought like the Warrior as well.....Daemon also looked up to Aerion Targaryen."

"Yes, he's a very interesting man, Aerion Targaryen." Varys said with a slight smile, "He was King-Consort to Rhaenyra, their sons became King. And the current line descends from Viserys II."

"I wonder." Myrcella said, "The texts don't specify how he died. They confirmed his death, saying he died at the end of the War, but never specified how."

Varys frowned, "Well..." She said

"Aegon III wrote that he did not witness his father's death...." She said as she looked down at the text, "He said that many sources state conflicting reports. Apparently, he died in Dragonfire, bathed by Aegon II's dragon, Sunfyre after his own Dragon died to battle wounds. Also, it's said that he died in a fall after flying to King's Landing."

Varys nodded, "They also say he died bleeding out from the arrow wounds he suffered in the Second Battle of Tumbleton. Also, they say he died in Queen Rhaenyra's arms after he clawed his way back to the Red Keep." He said, "My personal favorite version is how he died standing up after his Final Battle, uttering the famous words: 'The Warrior Does Not Fall'. "

"So what truly happened to him?" Myrcella asked him, "He did die, right?"

Varys shrugged, "Nobody knows." He said, "After Queen Rhaenyra's death and Aegon II's eventual demise, Aegon III was crowned and the Hour of The Wolf eventually ended the conflict. Aerion Targaryen was a name that everyone knew and mourned. I am sure that after Aerion's death, the people of the realm just wanted to stop. The War was so vicious that it took the life of the seemingly immortal Warrior that was Aerion Targaryen."

Myrcella sighed, "That is something...." She said, "Poor Aegon....he lost both his parents..."

"And his three older brothers." Varys said, "But eventually it worked out, Viserys was returned and he was happy."

Myrcella frowned as she read some contents, "Wait...this says that to the end of his reign...Aegon III received a letter...." She said, "And he simply sat in his throne, weeping after reading it...."

"What was the letter?"
