As Agent Thompson finished reading Lucas his rights, a figure emerged from the shadows.
He was tall, with piercing blue eyes and jet-black hair.
"Ah, Agent Thompson," the figure said, his voice dripping with sophistication.
"I see you've taken care of Lucas. Well done."
Agent Thompson narrowed her eyes. "Who are you?"
The figure smiled. "My name is Helios. I'm the one who's been pulling the strings from behind the scenes."
Michael and Emily exchanged a shocked glance. "You mean, you're the one who's been controlling Lucas?" Michael asked.
Helios chuckled. "Oh, no. Lucas was just a pawn in my game.
I've been using him to test my mind control technology."
Agent Thompson's eyes widened. "Your technology?
You mean, you're the one who created the device?"
Helios nodded. "Yes, I am. And with it, I plan to control the minds of world leaders, shaping the global agenda to my advantage."
The room fell silent, as the weight of Helios' words sank in.
But then, Emily spoke up. "You'll never get away with it. We'll stop you."
Helios laughed. "I doubt that. You see, my technology has already been deployed.
The minds of key government officials are under my control. I have the upper hand."
Michael's eyes narrowed. "Not if we have anything to say about it."
Helios smiled, seemingly amused by their determination.
"You're no match for me," he said, pulling out a small device from his pocket.
"This is a neural disruptor. It will erase Lucas' memories of everything that's happened."
Lucas' eyes widened in horror as Helios pointed the device at him. "No, please!" he begged.
But it was too late. Helios activated the device, and a bright light enveloped Lucas.
He stumbled backwards, his eyes glazing over.
When the light faded, Lucas looked around, confused. "What...what's going on?" he stammered.
Michael and Emily exchanged a worried glance. "Lucas, don't you remember?" Michael asked.
Lucas shook his head. "Remember what?"
Agent Thompson frowned. "He's telling the truth. The neural disruptor has erased his memories."
Helios chuckled. "And now, I'll vanish, leaving you with nothing."
He pulled out another device and pressed a button.
"Where are you going?" Agent Thompson demanded.
Helios turned back, grinning. "To my next destination. And you'll never find me."
With that, he disappeared through the portal, leaving the group stunned and frustrated.
But Michael refused to give up. "We have to find him," he said, determination burning in his eyes. "We can't let him get away with this." We can't...
Emily nodded. "We'll need to work together, gather all the clues we can find."
Agent Thompson nodded. "I'll get the agency involved. We'll track him down."
And so, the hunt for Helios began...
As they started their investigation, they discovered a cryptic message left behind by Helios:
"The truth lies in the shadows,
Where the light of knowledge fades.
Seek out the forgotten ones,
And the path to victory will be made."
