Kapitel 47: Straddling the Fence

When the doctor had explained the sedative to Scott, he had told him that it would make her sleep for around four hours and to not be alarmed. Knowing this, Scott chose to take the letter outside and down to walk on the beach. A few minutes later he found a beach driftwood log and sat down to read.

Scott hated that he felt like he was sneaking behind Ana's back to read this letter, but he didn't trust that Ana would give him all the details about what Nicholas had said to her. Ana tended to allow both men to get away with far too much. He should know. 

Scott spent the next fifteen minutes reading the letter. When he was finished, he felt unsure. What had been Nicholas's crimes? Lies and half-truths abounded but Scott was guilty of those same crimes himself.
