Kapitel 502: Chapter 502: Extraction Rights in Java

[Chapter 566: A True Force to be Reckoned With]

In mid-September, Arthur returned to Hong Kong as Indonesia's economy continued to deteriorate. Habibie had taken over as the interim president and was forming a transitional government. General Wiranto was appointed Minister of Defense and Commander of the Armed Forces, leaving the mess of Indonesia for Habibie to deal with.

In the office at Central Plaza, Arthur asked Emily Shead about the status of his $2 billion investment.

"Mr. Jim Colt registered several shell companies in Bermuda, the Virgin Islands, and the Cayman Islands; this money needs to take a detour!"

Arthur nodded, "Alright, we don't need to bring this money back home. Let's transfer it to Hong Kong to prepare for the upcoming Asian financial crisis."

"How much is Indonesia bringing in?" he inquired.

"$225 million," Emily Shead responded quickly, "Indonesia's economy is on the brink of collapse and is currently seeking international aid. Occidental Petroleum secured rights for oil and gas extraction in most of Java, and Mr. Edwards has also cleared the stock transfer. Sir, you've just acquired 6.7% of Occidental Petroleum!"

Arthur nodded, pleased with the significant returns from Indonesia; those around him benefited too, sharing nearly $100 million. He also spent $200 million investing in Sheldon Adelson's Venetian Resort, leaving him with over $1 billion in liquid cash.

"I heard Suharto died, along with his two sons?" Arthur asked.

"Yeah, it seems Suharto had a heart attack, and his two sons hanged themselves in their rooms!" Emily Shead shrugged.

Arthur chuckled, "Goodness, they really were a ruthless bunch. I bet Suharto's entire fortune was cleaned out!"

"By the way, Jacob Rothschild wants to meet with you."

"Got it."

...

That evening at the Peninsula hotel's restaurant, Arthur met with Jacob Rothschild.

"I heard you prefer picturesque ranches, so I brought you a little gift," Jacob said, handing Arthur two documents. "This one is a tranquil 400-acre vineyard near Bordeaux, France. And this is a beautiful 1200-acre ranch near Glasgow, Scotland."

Arthur took a sip of his drink, "So, have we reached a deal with BP?"

Jacob nodded, smiling, not hiding anything. "Yes, for the eastern part of Borneo."

"Sounds good," Arthur knew BP was backed by Rothschild Bank and had an inkling why Jacob was in Hong Kong. After all, Jardine Matheson and Swire Group were predominantly Jewish enterprises.

...

With the summer movie season wrapping up, Galaxy continued its past success.

In the MGM International film office in Hong Kong, Arthur sat on the couch, passionately kissing Yu Feihong, his hand sliding inside her top to feel her softness.

Yu Feihong, who had specifically flown in from Shanghai, had gained 200,000 shares of Galaxy stock, and with Galaxy's stock price now over $80, her net worth had reached around 18 million USD.

After the kiss, she wrapped her arms around his neck, sharing the good news: "You heard, right? Twister grossed $240 million in North America, and $490 million worldwide!"

"Independence Day broke $300 million in North America, well over $800 million globally," she continued. "The Rock brought in $130 million in North America, $330 million worldwide. Arthur, Galaxy has virtually dominated the summer box office this year!"

Arthur smiled, lightly tapping her thigh, "Hey, keep it low-key. Don't you know I prefer discretion?" He pecked her on the cheek, "And Paramount's Mission: Impossible is doing well too; Tom Cruise's box office draw can't be underestimated."

"Yeah, Mission: Impossible performed quite well, $180 million in North America, and $450 million globally," Yu Feihong's beautiful eyes glanced at Arthur's upward-curved mouth. "Mission: Impossible is certainly a contender for Galaxy this year. Tomorrow Never Dies has started shooting and will soon be filming in Asia, with locations in Hong Kong, Thailand, and Vietnam. Will you continue to stay here?"

Arthur considered it; going back home now would probably mean little rest. "Not so soon. Maybe late October or November!"

That way, the election would be over, and Clinton would have been re-elected.

"I'm tied up with filming a TV drama back home, can't stay too long in Hong Kong. Are you coming with me?"

Yu Feihong asked.

"Let's pass, it's still a hassle over there right now," Arthur patted the woman in his arms. "When you have a chance, travel abroad. You spent three or four years in the States before."

"Alright," he noted the recent tensions between the US and China over Taiwan, which Yu Feihong understood.

"Let's go grab a bite," Arthur said as he got to his feet.

That night, in a secluded villa in Kowloon Tong, Yu Feihong leaned against Arthur's chest. "This place was recommended by Vivian Chow; when I first came to Hong Kong, she took me around."

"Sounds like you have a good relationship," Arthur smirked suggestively.

"Pretty good, she has been back to Beijing a few times to promote her albums. I'm also working at Galaxy's Beijing office, and if I get the chance, I'm planning to direct a movie and I want her as the lead."

Arthur leaned closer to her ear, "Next time, you both come to the States, and I'll treat you well..."
