After a few more matches, it was finally Yami's turn.
"I really didn't want to be the last," he muttered.
He had wasted so much time watching the matches, time he could have spent doing something else. The only thing that made him patient was the fact that he managed to copy the hand signs of a few Jutsu from the other participants.
With a sigh, Yami headed toward the venue and finally met his Special Jonin examiner.
The opponent wore the signature dress of the Aburame clan, with a few bugs crawling around his body.
'Agh, I really hate bugs,' Yami thought, feeling less than enthusiastic. Insects often disturbed him while he was invisible.
"Hi, how are you doing?" Yami asked casually. But the Aburame clan member just stared at him blankly, saying nothing.
'Are all Aburame clan members antisocial?' Yami wondered as he used Soul Perception.
His spiritual energy spread like waves, forming an invisible 20-meter radius circle. Within it, he could sense the presence and emotions of those around him.
As he observed his opponent, he noticed a few red dots tainting the man's soul.
'Huh? What is the meaning of this?'
Red dots usually represented danger and ill intent. Yami could feel a faint murderous intent emanating from his opponent, directed at him.
But how could that be?
He looked at the examiner and was sure he had never met him before. Why did this man harbor such hatred toward him?
'Could it be a show of power? Maybe he wants to test me and see if I can grasp his intentions,' Yami speculated, internally raising his guard.
Yami didn't want any complications in the upcoming Chunin examination. All he wanted was to finish it quickly and go home to rest.

Ryoma looked at the boy he was supposed to examine today and remembered the conversation he had before coming here.
"Ryoma, Lord Danzo suspects that Yami Asano is a spy sent by another country."
"Yami?" Ryoma picked up a ninja document containing all the known information about Yami Asano. At first, he was confused about how a low-level Genin could possibly be a spy. But when he read about how Yami was the only one to survive each time he went on missions with his team, Ryoma's suspicion grew.
There was definitely something fishy about how he always escaped Chunin and Jonin's pursuit while his team and teacher did not.
"Yes, you and he will be the last of the Chunin Exams."
"I understand. I won't let him walk out of the examination room alive."
A spy from another village... Although it was just a suspicion, Lord Danzo's suspicion was enough. Ryoma quickly sentenced the other party to death in his heart. Casually tearing off the ninja information page with Yami's name, Ryoma walked out of the shadows into the sunlight of the examination venue.
The "assessment" was about to begin, and his bugs couldn't wait to have a meal.

"Humph, he was paired with Ryoma. I bet he would surrender in a minute."

In the sparsely populated audience seats, Sarutobi Maru and his group mocked Yami, just like did in the BBQ restaurant.
"Kakashi, do you still want to continue watching the Chunin Exams?" Rin asked.
The assessment for Jonin had ended long ago, and there was only one round left for the Chunin assessment. By this time, most of the ninjas in the audience had already left. Rin also wanted to leave early to prepare a gift for Kakashi for his promotion to Jonin. But Kakashi, whom she had been paying attention to, was still watching the last two participants walking into the center of the field: Yami Asano and Ryoma Aburame.
Rin remembered when Kakashi stood up for Yami at the barbecue restaurant. Kakashi seemed to care about him?
Kakashi nodded without saying a word.
"The Aburame clan are difficult to deal with."
"Sensei?"

Yami quickly entered stealth mode and looked at ninjas in the stands with confusion. But except for Minato, the other examiners and Jonin didn't pay much attention. It was as if the assessment was over.

"Is it possible to activate a secret technique of invisibility without even making a seal?" Ryoma wondered. This was slightly different from the description of the transparent escape in the information.
After missing the attack and losing the target, Ryoma immediately controlled the swarm of insects to disperse.

"Because I won't allow you to abstain." Just like before, Ryoma released the swarm of insects without any explanation. And this time, the scale was even larger, almost filling the entire pit.

Yami knew he had to act fast. As the swarm of insects approached, he used the Body Flicker Technique to escape the pit in an instant. His figure blurred and vanished, reappearing atop the edge of the pit.
Ryoma's eyes narrowed. "Body Flicker, huh? In addition to the secret technique, your speed exceeded my expectations." Ryoma did not get the information from the insects that Yami had been captured by the swarm.
'This Genin is indeed unusual. Lord Danzo's guess may actually be correct.'
"Let's see how many times you can use it." The insects swarmed toward Yami's new location. Yami disappeared once more, reappearing on the other side of the field. He took a deep breath, feeling the strain of repeatedly using the high-speed movement technique. His chakra reserves were depleting faster than he liked.
But he paid it no mind and instead focused on Ryoma's words. This was the first time he met this examiner, yet the other party seemed to know his information. Which meant he was specifically targeted today. The examiner selection was supposed to be random; it was nearly impossible to choose your opponent otherwise.
But why would a Special Jonin risk killing a nobody Genin like me, especially considering there was no grudge between them? As Yami's thoughts raced, he came up with a single theory. This examiner was attacking him because of an order. But the only ones capable of ordering a Special Jonin were the Third Hokage and Danzo. Yami quickly eliminated the Hokage, who had no reason to wish for his elimination.
"Danzo…"
In just a moment, Yami figured out the mastermind behind this Chunin examination.
'But just because he was rejected by the Hokage, Danzo targeted me?' Danzo's actions were more ruthless and irrational than Yami had imagined.
'I wasn't planning to involve myself with that guy, but if I get the chance in the future, I must find a way to kill him. Otherwise, I won't be able to sleep well.'
