Kapitel 31: Magnus Lumar

The ball concluded without any further incidents, and we all, except for Lucas, returned to the estate. The next morning, a letter arrived from Lucas, informing us that he had officially been appointed as the escort knight of Crown Princess Rachel.

'She really did as she said,' I mused, pursing my lips in contemplation. Rachel was an enigma, not because she was unpredictable, but because her thinking was so advanced.

Even with Edwin and Aurora, I could grasp their actions and intentions without much trouble, but Rachel was different. Her strategies and motives often eluded me, which was both fascinating and frustrating.

The realisation settled over me like a cold shadow: in this world, being the strongest with a sword or spear wasn't enough. Political influence was crucial to protect those I cared about. Being outmanoeuvred by a twelve-year-old girl, even one known as the Jewel of the Empire for her precocious intelligence, was a glaring sign of my inadequacy.

I gazed out the window of my room, the early morning light casting long shadows across the estate grounds.

"Young master Lancelot!" a maid called out as she entered my room, her voice tinged with urgency. "There is an important message for you!"

I tilted my head in confusion but quickly followed her downstairs to the living room. My parents and sister were already there, their expressions tense with anticipation.

On the table lay a letter bearing an insignia. At first glance, I thought it was from Rachel, but then I noticed the difference. It wasn't the Imperial Family's insignia; it had a similar design but with a distinctive variation. The phoenix symbol of the Empire was replaced by a spear.

It was the emblem of the Imperial Guards, specifically denoting the Spear Saint, Magnus Lumar.

I reached out and picked up the letter, my heart pounding. The wax seal was unbroken, the design intricate and regal. I broke the seal and unfolded the parchment inside.

I skipped the perfunctory opening lines and went straight to the heart of the matter.

"I've been chosen to be the Spear Saint's disciple," I muttered in disbelief.

My parents' eyes widened, and my sister gasped, covering her mouth with her hands. The room seemed to hold its breath as the weight of my words sank in.

My father was the first to speak, his voice filled with a mix of pride and concern. "This is an incredible honor, Lancelot. The Spear Saint is a legend."

"Are you ready for this?" my mother asked, her voice gentle but steady.

"I... I think so," I replied, still trying to wrap my head around the news. "It's a huge opportunity."

My sister stepped closer, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "You'll do great, Lancelot. I just know it."

As the initial shock began to fade, I felt a surge of determination. This was the chance I had been waiting for, the opportunity to become more than just another noble. It was a path to true power and influence, a way to protect those I cared about.

"I'll make the most of this," I said firmly. "I won't let any of you down."

My father placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "We know you won't, son. This is just the beginning."

'Did he sense my blue core and decide I was worth mentoring?' I wondered. Becoming the Spear Saint's disciple was an incredible opportunity for me.

I needed a new mentor since Baron Cedric wouldn't be moving to the Imperial Capital. It wouldn't be long before I reached Spear Blood, and someone who had already reached Spear Domain could guide me through those levels effectively.

'I would also like to see the ability of another Domain,' I mused. In my previous world, no one but me had reached beyond the level of Intent in any weapon.

Seeing Magnus's Spear Domain in action would give me a unique perspective. I wanted to know if his Spear Domain could rival my Sword Domain, especially if our mana would be the same.

I looked at my parents and sister, the resolve in my voice clear. "It seems I have a new mentor. My training will become more intense, but I will still be here with you."

My father nodded, his expression serious but proud. "We will support you in every way we can, Lancelot."

My mother gave me a gentle smile. "Take care of yourself, and remember we're always here for you."

My sister hugged me tightly. "You'll do great, Lancelot. I believe in you."

I made my way to the Imperial Palace, carrying Magnus's letter with his insignia securely tucked away. The guards at the palace gates recognized the symbol immediately, their demeanor shifting to one of respect as they ushered me inside.

Walking through the halls, I felt a mixture of awe and determination. The palace was a place of power and history, every corner resonating with the weight of the Empire's past and present. As I reached the training grounds designated for the Imperial Guards, I could sense the aura of discipline and skill that permeated the air.

Magnus Lumar was waiting for me, his presence commanding yet welcoming. He wore the traditional armor of the Imperial Guards, adorned with symbols of his rank and achievements. His gaze met mine with a hint of appraisal, acknowledging the significance of this meeting.

"You've made it, Lancelot," Magnus said, his voice steady and authoritative. "Today marks the beginning of your journey as my disciple."

"I'm honored, Spear Saint," I replied, keeping my tone respectful. "I look forward to learning from you."

Magnus nodded, his armor gleaming faintly under the palace's soft lights as he gestured for me to follow him. We moved through the corridors with purpose, the echoes of our footsteps mingling with the distant hum of palace life.

"Do you not wish to know why I chose you?" Magnus's voice carried a weight of authority and wisdom as he glanced back at me.

I matched his pace, feeling a surge of curiosity mixed with anticipation. "Yes," I replied, keeping my tone respectful.

"You already possess a blue core at the age of twelve," Magnus explained without breaking stride, his gaze forward. "Such mastery of mana at your age is rare and promising. With my guidance in spearmanship, you have the potential to achieve the rank of Imperial Knight much sooner than most."

"It would also be beneficial for the Spear Saint of the Killion Empire to cultivate a successor," Magnus continued, his voice carrying a hint of foresight. "I see in you the capability to carry on the legacy of the Spear Domain with honor and strength."

I nodded, absorbing his words as we arrived at a secluded training area within the palace grounds.
