Kapitel 3: Target

The inmates were a mix of long-term prisoners and those captured as prisoners of war.

They were nothing more than leverage against Edoran.

His eyes scanned from one cell to another, a blue system window persistently displaying new statistics.

He could see stats similar to his own, from strength, agility, and speed to magical capability, along with other strange statistics he didn't have.

[Conversion]

This statistic had a number paired with it, but unlike the others, it was a percentage.

Before Sebastian could ponder the reason, another window popped up.

[The system shows the base chance for conversion. This can increase over time as the host assists the conversion.]

There was nothing else there. Sebastian still did not know what conversion was, but he focused on it even more now.

[Conversion 0.4%]

[Conversion 0.9%]

[Conversion 1.2%]

None of them had a large chance to succeed in this conversion.

Sebastian continued to survey the prisoners, most of whom he had fought against in the war. They had mixed expressions while looking at him.

Some faces screamed "murderer," while others were filled with utter horror.

No one dared to say a word to the Mage of Inferno.

'I can guess what this conversion means...' Sebastian pondered.

'The whole system's name is Femboy Conversion System. I obviously don't have this statistic, so it must be the chance to convert them into femboys… or possibly even more.'

'Maybe this is all going to be way more exciting than I thought.' For the first time in a long while, he was smiling.

Much to the terror of everyone around him.

All the inmates retreated to the corners of their cells, gazing at the terrifying, scarred man known for his explosive power.

"Why the hell is he smiling?" asked one of the inmates.

"Hell if I know. Who knows what's going on in that sick mind of his," answered another inmate from his cell.

Sebastian clearly heard them talking but couldn't be bothered to respond.

'I don't know what the maximum rate of conversion possible is, but I don't think I should try this thing out on someone with less than 1-2%,' he thought, his eyes scanning the entire prison block for a potential target.

The highest conversion rate he saw was only 2%, something he couldn't believe was enough.

'This is starting to become a bother,' his frustration grew as he continued to consider his options.

Before he grew too bored and decided to leave, his eyes caught on something—or someone—not the window; he didn't need that.

In one of the cells, an inmate was hunched in the corner. This one stood out. A beastman with strikingly feminine features, tanned skin, long white hair, and piercing blue eyes.

His delicate frame and soft appearance starkly contrasted with the rough, hardened, and filthy inmates surrounding him. Sebastian's gaze lingered, intrigued by the unusual presence.

Finally, he saw the conversion rate: 12%.

'Interesting...' A smile spread across his face, chilling the room as the other inmates shrank back even further.

Sebastian's eyes locked onto the beastman. 'This might be worth my time after all.'

But the conversion rate wasn't the only thing that caught his interest. What was more intriguing was the inmate's appearance. For a moment, Sebastian thought the prisoner was a woman.

But he knew better—no woman was locked up at this side of the prison.

"Can you open this door? I need to... interrogate one of the prisoners..." Sebastian remained silent for a moment, trying to come up with a convincing reason for the guard to let the prisoner out.

The guard, however, simply saluted and said, "Of course, sir!"

Taking his key, the guard walked up to the door and opened it with a loud creak as the iron door, covered in dust, swung open.

Five other inmates were in the cell, shrinking back into the corner with fear as they stared at Sebastian's soulless gaze.

But Sebastian wasn't looking at them. His focus was on the one in the corner—the beastman with a conversion rate of 12%.

The beastman stared directly into Sebastian's soulless eyes, seeming... proud. Not even the terrifying Sebastian could make him tremble.

He almost smirked.

Then, the screen before him shifted, no longer showing the conversion rates, but a yes or no checkbox.

[Does the host want to select the target with a conversion rate of 12%?]

[Yes] [No]

'Duh, obviously yes,' thought Sebastian, his interest already piqued by the proud expression of the beastman before him.

[Congratulations, mission completed]

[Level up!]

[Level up!]

Sebastian couldn't feel any change with the level-ups, but he decided to ignore them for a while, he didn't get a new quest either.

Their eyes remained locked, the beastman's gaze holding an underlying defiance, like a burning flame ready to consume everything around him.

"Stand up, prisoner!" shouted the guard, his halberd firmly in hand.

The prisoner only stared back at the guard, his eyes burning with even more hatred before a strange shadow crossed them as if he were trying to unleash an attack.

But the chains that bound them were special; they sealed their mana, making them unable to lash out, even draining their strength, reducing them to a state where they could never retaliate.

"That's enough." Said Sebastian as he stepped in, for a while, even he thought that an attack was going to be unleashed in the middle of the prison.

Looking at the system window before him change, his expression almost changed… almost.

'A shadow affinity? Damn, that's a rare one, never would have guessed that I'm going to meet one here of all places…'

'Stronger and faster than most, his mana isn't half bad either.' Sebastian's fascination only increased.

The guard became more cautious of the beastman, wary of what he might attempt after trying to call upon his shadows. However, his fear of Sebastian outweighed his caution.

The beastman remained silent as the guard removed his chains. Though still bound by cuffs, he could now move.

His eyes gazed even more intensely at Sebastian, the pure hatred in them stirring something within him. He, too, had once felt this very same hatred.

"You don't have to be afraid… I'm not going to do anything to you," said Sebastian, shocking almost everyone in the room, but the beastman the most.

The beastman's eyes widened briefly before caution returned. He still couldn't trust Sebastian.

[Conversion + 0.02%]

'Hmm?' Sebastian's brows fluttered for a moment, but he hid it well, his attention back on the beastman.

Standing up from the cold, dirty cell, the beastman continued to stare as he was led out of the room.

Close behind him, Sebastian followed. The inmates all stared at him—some with indifference, others with pity.

In their eyes, the poor creature was walking to his death, a fate that would end in one of the most painful ways imaginable: burning to death.

Walking out of the cell block, the guards became alert upon seeing an inmate escorted out with another guard, but their vigilance faded when they noticed Sebastian following behind.

With that, they walked through the hallways without a word spoken, heading towards Sebastian's office.

The beastman continued to stare at Sebastian's back as he walked in front, with two guards following closely behind the prisoner. It wasn't out of fear of escape, but simply standard procedure.

As they slowly reached his office, Sebastian fell into deep thought. 'Is this place good enough?'

An empty holding cell would probably be a better fit for a situation like this, but Sebastian didn't care. He didn't fear the beastman in his current state, or any other inmate for that matter.

As the new captain of the prison, his words were the closest thing to law.

Opening the door to his office, he walked up to the desk, his face almost contorting into a painful grimace as he saw that the paperwork had piled up even more since his last visit.

Which, to his dismay, wasn't that long ago.

No one saw his contorted expression, at least not the guards. However, the beastman noticed the deep pain filling Sebastian's face when he glanced at the paperwork.

His wolf-like ears perked up, not understanding the pain filling Sebastian's expression in that moment.

"I'll take it from here. Thank you for the help," said Sebastian, dismissing the guards from his office.

"Of course, sir. We'll be by the door. Call if anything happens," one of the guards replied before both saluted and walked out, leaving Sebastian alone with the wolf-like beastman.

The beastman continued to stare at Sebastian's back, who was still fixated on the mountains of paperwork before him.

"What do you want from me?!" inquired the beastman in a threatening, low growl, resembling a cornered wolf left alone without his pack.

"Even I don't know yet," answered Sebastian, his voice cold.

The beastman's guard only increased the longer Sebastian stared at the paperwork.

But he wasn't just staring at that; he was also focused on the system window.

[Congratulations to the host. The tutorial will soon end. As your final mission, make the target reach the first stage.]

'What the hell is the first stage?' pondered Sebastian, frustrated by the system's lack of explanation, leaving him in the dark to figure it out on his own.

'At least it's not that boring.'

As if the system was throwing him a bone, another window popped up.

[Stage 1: 15%]

'Thanks… really helpful.' His sarcasm was palpable, the system didn't told him anything, leaving him with one last mission before this tutorial was over.

What was supposed to show him the ropes told him nothing in the end, but strangely, this wasn't something that he minded.

The boredom that cursed him after the end of the war finally seemed to have a chance to be lessened.

He looked back at the beastman.

"What is your name?" asked Sebastian, his soulless eyes gazing deeply into the defiant eyes of the beastman who stared back at him.

"Fuck off."

Instead of being angry, Sebastian smiled.
