Kapitel 43: Ch-43 < The weight of responsibility >

After a few hours. The news about the massacre of two herrscher went to every news station world wide. They reported that Moth wasn't able to stop them efficiently as both herrshcers killed millions of people and destroyed multiple cities and killed many Moth elite soldiers.

The news about kevin and elysia exploits spread to whole world. Because of it Mobius laboratory gain huge fame.

The next morning, Kevin woke up in the sterile confines of the MOTH healthcare department.

The white walls and the gentle hum of medical equipment served as a stark contrast to the chaos of the previous day. He felt the dull ache of his wounds, but the real pain was deeper, a gnawing sense of guilt that had lodged itself in his heart.

How many lives died because i removed the limiter on my Divine Key sooner. Kevin thought.

Because of their clash. Around 12k people died.

Kevin remembers so many people has placed expectations on him.

The thought tormented him, playing on a loop in his mind.

As his eyes adjusted to the light, Kevin noticed Elysia sleeping beside his bed. Her head rested on her folded arms, her usually lively face now peaceful and serene in slumber. Despite the turmoil in his mind, Kevin felt a slight sense of calm wash over him as he watched her.

As he looked at Elysia's face, so close and so real, it was as if her very presence was soothing that inner turmoil.

"Elysia," Kevin called out softly, not wanting to startle her.

She stirred, her eyes fluttering open as she rubbed them sleepily. "Oh, Kevin, you're awake," she said with a yawn, her voice filled with warmth.

"Yes," Kevin replied, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. He reached out, pulling her closer by the waist and guiding her onto the bed with him.

Elysia let out a soft giggle as she settled against him. "You know, you really had me worried," she said, her fingers gently tracing the outline of his jaw. "But I'm glad you're okay."

Kevin held her close, allowing himself to relax in her embrace. For a moment, the weight of his thoughts was lessened, pushed to the back of his mind by the comfort of having Elysia by his side.

Later that morning, Kevin made his way to Mobius's lab. The atmosphere was the same as always: buzzing with activity, filled with the sound of machines and the sharp scent of chemicals.

But something had changed in Kevin. His usual bright smile had faded, replaced by a more subdued expression. The battle had left its mark on him, and not just physically.

Mobius was engrossed in her work, tinkering with some new equipment, while Mei was at her workstation, analyzing data. The sight of them—his closest allies, the people he fought so hard to protect—stirred something in Kevin. He managed a faint smile as he approached them.

Mei noticed his arrival and immediately picked up on his changed demeanor. "Kevin, are you alright?" she asked, concern evident in her voice.

"Yes, I'm okay," Kevin replied, though the words felt hollow. He caught sight of Elysia coming into the lab, and seeing both her and Mei did manage to bring a small smile to his face. Unable to resist, he leaned down and pressed a light kiss to Mei's lips.

Mei's cheeks flushed a deep shade of red as she lightly swatted his chest. "Kevin, we're at work!" she chided, though there was no real anger in her voice.

Kevin chuckled softly, the brief moment of affection lifting his spirits slightly. "I know, I know," he said, stepping back with a grin. "But I couldn't help myself."

Mobius looked up from her work, her eyes narrowing as she studied Kevin's expression. "You're not just here for pleasantries, are you?" she asked, her voice cutting through the light-hearted mood like a scalpel.

Kevin's smile faded as he shook his head. "No, we have a meeting with the top members of MOTH today. We need to discuss the aftermath of the battle and our next steps."

The Meeting

The tension in the meeting room was palpable as Mei and Mobius stood before the illusory screen displaying real-time communications from across the globe.

High-ranking members of the Flaming Moth Council, scattered in different locations, were all demanding explanations, their voices filled with fear and anger.

"Dr. Mei, the existence of the Moth Council is to ensure humanity's survival, to deal with the threats we face. But now, you plan to use the Honkai Beast Factor—are you planning to turn humans into monsters themselves?" one council member demanded, his voice dripping with disdain.

Another man followed, his voice equally condemning. "It's all monsters created by you mad scientists! Do you even know what the public calls the MOTH? The Devil's Nest!"

Because of some religion which worship honkai as gods and has large number of followers. All those followers consider MOTH

As devils.

The accusations flew fast and furious. "Recall that unknown 'MANTIS Warrior' plan immediately.

We need to examine Kevin's identity, and move him into the dungeon until we determine whether he's a threat to humanity!"

"We've been far too lenient with you scientists," another voice cut in, sharp and authoritative. "We're installing a monitoring team in your lab immediately, Mobius, and if necessary, we'll bring it down!"

Mobius, usually cool under pressure, could hardly suppress the anger rising within her. Her fists clenched tightly, nails digging into her palms as she glared at the screen.

The arrogance of these so-called leaders, too busy fighting for power to see the reality before them, made her blood boil.

These imbeciles.Kevin thought, his own frustration bubbling up.

Even in the face of disaster, they're more concerned with control than survival. They're willing to destroy what little hope we have left, just to satisfy their own egos.

Mobius's thoughts were running in a similar vein, and Kevin could see the strain in her posture, the barely controlled fury as she faced the council.

She had seen this before—the same mindset that led her to hope for human evolution, to discard the weaknesses that plagued humanity. Like my father, she thought bitterly.

But before she could lash out, a familiar hand rested gently on her shoulder. Kevin's touch was firm and grounding, instantly calming the storm within her. She glanced at him and saw his steady gaze, unwavering despite the chaos surrounding them.

Beside Kevin, slumped over in his grip, was a man fully armed and dressed in a dark stealth uniform—one of the council's elite soldiers. He was clearly unconscious, hanging limply from Kevin's grasp.

"Poison Chrysalis," Kevin said, his voice carrying across the room, "such powerful soldiers lying around the meeting room. If they had been sent to the front lines earlier, perhaps we could relax a bit."

His words cut through the council's bluster like a knife, and Kevin noticed a flicker of panic in their eyes. The bravado they had shown just moments before was fading quickly.

"Hey, don't open your mouth if you don't know what you're talking about," Kevin continued, his tone icy.

"If I don't fight the Herrscher, who do you have that can? Name one soldier who can take them down." Kevin asked.

Silence fell over the room, thick and suffocating. The council members, so full of righteous indignation moments ago, found themselves with no response.

Kevin's presence was overwhelming, a reminder of the power he held and the reality they all faced.

"And don't pretend you're fighting for the world," Kevin added, his voice growing colder. "If you're not planning to save it, then maybe I should just take the girls back home and we'll live a happy life together, away from this mess."

Mobius and Mei's eyes widened in shock at his words, but there was also a flicker of understanding. Kevin wasn't just talking to the council—he was laying bare the truth that none of them wanted to admit.

"Arrogance! You madman, we're fighting for the world!" one of the council members shouted, his voice rising in desperation.

"For righteousness!" another added, trying to rally support.

Kevin's eyes narrowed as he regarded them with disdain. "Don't use the name of righteousness to lecture me, you mafias.

Let me tell you something—even if the Honkai didn't exist, how many people in the world would still die from hunger, from poverty? What's the difference between an Eruption and a disaster? They're just different faces of the same coin."

The council members exchanged uneasy glances, their confidence crumbling under Kevin's relentless logic. They had no answer for him, no defense against the harsh reality he was presenting. The world was cruel, and in their pursuit of power, they had forgotten what it truly meant to protect humanity.

Kevin's words hung in the air like a sword over their heads, and the meeting room fell into an uncomfortable silence. The leaders who had so confidently challenged Mei and Mobius now found themselves on the defensive, their authority shaken.

The negotiation that followed between Mei, Mobius, and the council went surprisingly smoothly.

With Kevin's forceful speech still echoing in their minds, the council members quickly approved various plans that had previously been mired in red tape. They granted a significant sum of monthly funds and removed several of the complex review tasks that had been bogging down the MOTH's progress.

As the meeting concluded, Kevin, Mei, and Mobius walked out together, the tension from earlier slowly dissipating.

"Kevin, I never knew you were so good at negotiations," Elysia said, her voice laced with admiration as she caught up with them.

Kevin gave her a wry smile. "Sometimes, the truth is the best weapon," he replied. "But I'm just glad we were able to get things moving."

Mobius nodded, her expression a mix of relief and satisfaction. "You certainly know how to make an impact," she said, a rare hint of respect in her voice.

After saying their goodbyes to Mobius and Mei, Kevin took Elysia by the hand, leading her out of the MOTH headquarters. They were heading home, where they could finally relax, even if just for a moment, before the next storm arrived.

In 2 days, Kevin would undergo the MANTIS operation, the procedure that would change him forever.

But for now, he was content to spend these fleeting moments with Elysia, savoring the calm before the inevitable battle ahead.
