The chancellor's laughter reverberated through the room, signaling his amusement at the unfolding events. To him, today had proven to be a revelation, a contrast from what he had ever envisioned in his wildest dreams.
"Brat! Your cunning prowess is truly remarkable. Your meticulous preparations have not gone unnoticed. It explains your unwavering composure in the face of this chaos. However, what perplexes me is how you managed to sway these individuals to blindly follow your orders," the chancellor quipped, directing his sharp gaze towards the little emperor, who maintained a stoic silence in his seat.
Shifting his attention towards the trio of soldiers before him, he continued, "You three are but a drop in the vast ocean of soldiers that comprise the mighty Rin Empire's army. You hold no command, let alone the esteemed title of general, yet you audaciously stand in my path. Have you truly contemplated the gravity of your actions? If so, be prepared to witness the extent of my power within these palace walls!" His words carried a weighty authority as his eyes alternated between the soldiers and the little emperor.
"Guards!" He thundered, and in a swift display of obedience, the numerous palace guards stationed at the threshold swiftly assembled behind the him, ready to carry out his bidding.
With a smirk of contentment playing on his lips, the chancellor taunted, "What threat could a mere trio of lower-ranked soldiers possibly pose?"
As tension mounted and chaos brewed, the remaining dignitaries within the chamber began to instinctively retreat from the epicenter of the impending clash. Only those unwaveringly loyal to the chancellor, who had stood by him through thick and thin, remained steadfast in their positions. Their conviction unwavering, they harboured no doubt that today they would witness the chancellor's ascension to the throne, solidifying his authority and power in the realm.
"I have given you plenty of chances, but you have consistently refused to seize them." The chancellor continued. "Now that you have exhausted my patience, mercy will not be extended to you. Initially, I shall deal with these three misguided individuals and then I will strip you of your claim to that seal, just as you stripped our emperor. I will reduce you to the same state of vulnerability, making you run barefoot behind a galloping horse, circling the entirety of the Rin Empire until you plead for death, a request I shall not grant. My retribution will not stop there; I will address all those you have associated with over the years and eliminate them. This shall serve as a stark reminder to any who dare to rebel or covet the throne." It was evident that the chancellor was so angry and this words he spoke had proven it.
As soon as he finished speaking, the little emperor burst into laughter. "Aren't you the real rebel here? I possess the seal, thereby rightfully claiming my position as emperor. Yet, you persist in opposing me. In your eyes, I am merely a child of no consequence, and you view me as an opportunity to seize the emperor's seal and claim the throne you have long coveted, isn't that so?"
"Silence!" the chancellor retorted furiously.
The little emperor's deductions were within logic, which he meant that the chancellor wanted the throne for himself just that he was incompetent to get it and could only bully a kid when he saw an opportunity.
"Why did you not sort the former emperor and ask him to deliver the seal to you, then that he ruled - the fact is you are a coward, and now you have seen a stupid kid that would bear the seal to your doorstep, isn't it. Foolish! You lack a true understanding of the situation. The fact that I have the seal serves as me being competent enough." The little emperor retorted, punctuating his words with laughter.
The room fell into a hushed silence as everyone present watched in perplexity. This kid before them exuded an air of audacity that left them all bewildered all over again. What was he truly backing on to display such boldness, especially in front of the dignitaries and the chancellor?
Without missing a beat, the chancellor spoke with a mix of disdain and authority, "you dare to smear my reputation, and what situation do you believe you are grasping at, brat? Or do you not realize you are as good as a dead child." With a dismissive wave of his hand, he signaled to the guards to remove the three soldiers standing in his path, clearing the way for his uninterrupted ascension.
While the chancellor could have easily dispatched one of the guards to deal with the little emperor, he knew that none would dare to obey such a direct order. The mere act of trespassing the twenty-step boundary was a grave offense, punishable by severe consequences not to talk of ascending the platform of the throne. Moreover, sending a guard to handle the child, risk a scenario where the guard might claim the imperial seal for himself, thereby staking a claim to the throne. The chancellor was keenly aware that the holder of the seal is the holder of the ultimate power, regardless of the circumstances they acquired it.
Observing the skirmish between the three soldiers and the guards, the chancellor grudgingly acknowledged their strength and skill. Despite being heavily outnumbered, the soldiers displayed remarkable prowess in fending off their assailants. Their agility and proficiency with their weapons revealed their combat experience, contrasting sharply with the palace guards who were more accustomed to a life of routine gatekeeping duties.
He could not mobilize his own troop within the short time as he had not expected to be greeted to this unbelievable reality upon his arrival to the meeting. If he had known beforehand, he would have made a meticulous preparations and would not have had to barter forth and back with a child which had gravely diminished his prestige.
Nevertheless, he was confident that the sheer numbers of this guard was enough as they would eventually wear down the soldiers, allowing for their defeat. He noted with satisfaction that the soldiers appeared to be at a disadvantage, showing signs of prior injuries. One soldier clutched his waist in pain, while another limped slightly from a wound sustained on his foot.
As the tense standoff continued, it became increasingly evident that the chancellor was determined to exploit the situation to his advantage, leveraging every possible opportunity to assert his dominance and secure his grip on power.
The chancellor, seemingly unfazed by the ongoing clash between the soldiers and the guards, redirected his focus towards his intended destination—the throne. With a determined stride, he resumed his advance, his eyes fixed on the glimmers that shone from it.
In response to the chancellor's relentless pursuit, a shift occurred within the demeanor of the little emperor. As a wave of anger surged within him, he could no longer tolerate the chancellor's brazen audacity. This throne belonged to him by right, marked by the seal in his possession. The chancellor's persistent encroachment on this continued to grate on his nerves, provoking a deep-seated defiance within him.
