KELLY'S POV

I was startled awake as the intoxicating aroma of freshly baked goods filled my nostrils. Yawning and preparing to stretch my arms and legs, I felt the familiar aching around my hipbone. Ouch…

I took my time walking to the bathroom and going through my morning routine, brushing my teeth and washing my face.

‘’Mom,’’ I called out to my mother as I walked into the kitchen. I was certain she was the only one in the house who could produce such a delicious scent.

A scream let up as mom jumped out of the pantry. ‘’Kelly!’’ she berated as she came out rubbing her head. ‘’You scared me. Don’t go around jumping out at people.’’

‘’Mom, I was calling out for you,’’ the timer of the oven sounded and mom rushed over.

She took out a muffin tray, which contained what I believe to be apple-cinnamon muffins, and placed it on the counter next to a chocolate cake. As I glanced at my favorite baked delicacy, I was filled with excitement.
