Kapitel 19: A doable plan.

Jaxon nodded, committing the names to memory as he stood up from his chair, "Alright. Let's set up a plan for these three then."

"Are any of these people connected with each other or do their jobs require them to be in touch?"

"Negative... these people do not come in contact whatsoever, but I can't say for sure what they do outside of work."

"Hmm..." Jaxon walked around the office, thinking of an approach before finally stopping as he turned towards Sam, "Billy, is the least suspicious one since he's just a driver with no real control or information on the shipment and their routes, so we should let him in on the plan. If the robbers don't show up, he's our guy. For Carla, we will give her a fake set of information alongside a fake route, if the robbers appear in our fake route, she's the one and as for Mike, we will provide him with the original route but with the fake intel on the shipment, if the robbers show up as intended then he's the one."

"That seems like a doable plan," Sam nodded, "I was starting to get suspicious about whether you're one of those wannabe macho men, who wants to go out gun blazing on their own but it seems Henry wasn't wrong."

"I am not stupid enough to put my life at risk for no reason, besides I've got to earn my pay, somehow." Jaxon shrugged, "Talking about pay... my payment-"

"I'll pay you by the hour," Sam stopped him before he could finish, "If you finish the job, I'll pay a hefty bonus as well, and as I mentioned in my call, if you manage to recover the goods or at least the money, I'll give you the paycheck of your life."

Jaxon gulped a little, "Are we talking on the basis of percentage or- yeah we can sort this out later,"

Earning a glare from Sam, Jaxon immediately stopped as he continued, "I'll go catch on some sleep for the moment then... if you need any help setting up the plan do let me know if not, I'll see you tomorrow."

"I can do that much on my own." Sam stood up walking him out, "There's a good motel not too far from here, stay there, I'll let you know if something comes up."

--------------

The rest of the day passed in a blur as Jaxon crashed on his motel bed for hours catching up on lost sleep.

Before he knew it, the sun was setting, casting a warm orange glow over Los Angeles. He woke up feeling refreshed, ready to tackle the plan head-on.

The next morning, Jaxon returned to Sam's office. They finalized the details and set the plan in motion. Sam called Mark into his office first. Jaxon observed the man closely as Sam explained to him about the valuable shipment that was coming by and how they wanted to ship it out immediately. Mark listened, his expression neutral, nodding along as Sam laid out the details.

"Understood," Mark said, standing up. "I'll make sure everything goes smoothly."

Jaxon watched him leave, noting his calm demeanor. He couldn't tell if it was genuine or a practiced act, but time would reveal the truth.

Next, Carla was called in. She seemed a bit more on edge, her eyes darting around the room as she listened to Sam explain the fake route. She nodded quickly, her movements slightly jittery.

"I'll handle it," Carla said, her voice wavering slightly. She left the office, and Jaxon exchanged a look with Sam.

"She's nervous," Jaxon noted. "But that doesn't necessarily mean she's guilty. We'll see."

Finally, Billy came in. He was gruff and to the point, not one for small talk. Sam laid out the real route for the shipment and the plan. He introduced Jaxon as hired help who would assist him, and Billy just grunted in response, acknowledging the task.

"Alright," Jaxon said after Billy left. "Now it's time to play the waiting game."

Jaxon walked around the building familiarizing himself with the drivers and the place of operation, but for the most part, he was busy flirting around with the receptionist, who seemed to blush every time she saw him.

"Ahem!" Sam interrupted Jaxon and the receptionist who were busy chatting, walking out of the office, "You brat, it's time for the shipment!"

Jaxon nodded waving her bye, "Is everything set in place?"

"Of course, who do you think you're talking to?" Sam said walking alongside him, "And will you stop trying to woo my receptionist?"

Jaxon shrugged nonchalantly, "I was just getting to know the place of operation and the people around them. That's the core of any operation you know, the people."

"Yeah yeah! Are you ready?"

Jaxon lifted his jacket showing him the gun as he nodded, "As ready as I can be, let's just hope things don't reach the point where I'll need to use it."

Waving him off, Sam went back to his office and Jaxon hopped onto the delivery truck nodding at Billy. The short pudgy man grunted ignoring him as they began driving off.

Jaxon took out a handkerchief and wrapped it around his face like a mask and put on a cap to hide his identity. The mission this time was mostly to observe so he couldn't risk letting his face be known so early in the game.

It had been an hour since they had started driving around but the two men barely let out a single sound. Jaxon kept his eyes on the road, scanning for any signs of trouble, while Billy remained stoic, focused on the task at hand. The silence was tense, each man lost in his thoughts.

As they approached a secluded stretch of road, Jaxon's instincts kicked in the moment he heard the growls of engines closing in on them. He could feel the tension in the air, a quiet anticipation that something was about to happen. He discreetly checked his gun, making sure it was within easy reach.

As the neon-lit cars closed in on the truck, Jaxon's pulse quickened. He recognized the signature vehicle of the robbers—sleek, modified cars that screamed danger.

Jaxon turned towards Billy who looked slightly flustered. Jaxon couldn't help but let out a smirk, it was time to see if their plan would pay off. So instead of acting immediately, he waited to see how the situation would play out.

One of the cars overtook them as it began riding in front of them, and Jaxon could see a masked figure wearing a helmet standing out of the sunroof facing towards them, armed and ready to strike.

In a flash, the harpoon shot through the air with a deafening hiss, smashing through the truck's windshield right in front of him. The reinforced harpoon head embedded itself into the truck's interior, shattering glass and causing Billy to duck instinctively.

Before Jaxon could react, the harpoon's line went taut, and with a mechanical whirr, the windshield was yanked out, exposing the truck's cab to the elements. The car began closing in on the now vulnerable truck.

"Here, grab this..." Billy handed him a baseball bat with anger and fear gripping his voice. Jaxon took the bat, eyes narrowing as the situation intensified, "Shit! They will try to break their way in."

Jaxon watched as the man in the helmet ready another harpoon but at the same time, he seemed to be communicating with the driver as well.

"Follow my lead," Jaxon said as he couldn't help but feel his adrenaline pump up, "Let me join in your little excitement!"
