Kapitel 279: 279. New Gym Leader

Sure enough, just as Ash had expected before, once their main mission objective was taken by him by force, the mission of these two teams was almost a complete failure.

And things developed even more smoothly than Ash had originally imagined. Originally, he thought that the two teams would attack him together or separately and try to threaten him to with everything they had to hand over the Meteorite in his hands.

He could have also taken this opportunity to get some more of the Exchange Points he needed.

Unexpectedly, his movements were too fast for these Grunts just now. The group from the Team Mamga only saw him kicking their device into the hot magma, and thought that the Meteorite was also destroyed with thier machine.

The most important thing is that when Tabitha saw Ash from a distance, he suddenly felt a pain in his face and a scar in his chest almost opened up. Since their main mission item were now destroyed, there was no point for them to stay here and get a beating from this kid again.

After all, it would be better to retreat immediately and say their main mission was canceled than give Ash another chance to beat his beautiful face.

At least, that was he was thinking.

The members from Team Aqua in this area were already at a disadvantage in numbers and were also not in their home court. Although their mission was not completed as they couldn't get their hands on the Meteorite, at least Team Magma was unable to get what they were after, so Shelly was still satisfied with the outcome.

She also retreated, walking fast enough that she didn't even glance at Ash. She just thought he was a lucky handsome kid, not one with skills.

"Hey...why are you leaving like that…" Ash thought for second put away his Dratini's Poké Ball again, 'Nevermind, it's best not fight here, I'm still glad nothing too bad happened.' Ash thought with a sigh. He still wanted some Exchange Points, but looks like that isn't happening here for now.

The man got up from the ground. He heard the conversation between the members of Team Magma and members of Team Aqua just now. He really thought that the Meteorite was destroyed like everyone else. Although he was sad, he begrudgingly accepted it, "Thank you, child. If that Meteorite was really used by those people to do harm out region and world, it's ultimately better to just destroy it than to get their hands on it."

"What you did was very decisive and bold, so I thank you again!"

At this time, Brock and the two siblings also finally rushed over to where he was.

After introducing each other, they learned that this man was a famous professor from the Hoenn Region, Professor Cozmo, and he was very engaged in the research about Meteorites.

"Wow, a real Meteorite!" Max's eyes were filled with stars when he heard that they had seen a real Meteorite, "But its such a pity that it was destroyed. I really wanted to see and hold it."

"Then take it." Ash threw the Meteorite casually iver to him.

Max quickly caught it, but the next second it was snatched away by Professor Cozmo. He was full of surprises and there were real tears in his eyes, "It's really that Meteorite. It turns out it wasn't destroyed. That's great! Thank you, Ash!"

"Wait Ash, could it be that you took out the Meteorite in time and destroyed their device before it too got destroyed?" Professor Cozmo looked at Ash with grateful eyes.

Ash nodded with a small smirk, "Yeah, I originally thought I needed to fight all the grunts from both Team Magma and Team Aqau, so I had gotten myself ready for it. But looks like I didn't need to worry about it after all. They just ran away when they thought that I really destroyed their Meteorite."

Brock and May saw that Ash's expressions were really full of regret and sadness, and they couldn't help but twitch the corner of their mouths.

They most definitely knew that all Ash wanted to do at that time was to train up his Pokémon's.

And they were completely right, it's hard to find moments like these.

After returning the complete Meteorite to Professor Cozmo because Ash found out from his System that this Meteorite didn't actually have anything special to it other than the fact that this was a Meteorite.

So Ash and his team embarked on the road again for their journey again.

Soon they left the area of Mt. Chimney and finally arrived at their next destination, Lavaridge Town. Ash finally challenge and get his next Gym Badge, which made him very happy.

As a town at the foot of a giant dormant volcano, there are many natural hot springs around here, large and small, making this place a very famous hot spring resort to all ages and all people.

What made May the most excited was of course the famous local food here, the Lava Cookie!

"Come on, this is for Pikachu, this is for Ralts, and and this is for Togetic!"

May distributed the Lava Cookies she just bought and gave them to the Pokémon's outside of their Poké Balls. She had also bought a ton more of their other Pokémon's and themselves.

The two children and one grown up looked very cute holding and nibbling on them.

As usual, after Ash and his group came out of the Pokémon Center after a good lunch with their Pokémon's, who were fighting for the last Lava Cookie, ultimately May ate it.

They then went straight to the Lavaridge Town Gym, planning to go there first with Ash and get his Gym Badge before splitting up for more exploration.

But when the group did arrive in front of the Lavaridge Town Gym, they found that no one answered the door, which wasn't all that unusual because the amount of times Ash and Brock experienced this in their journeys.

"Is anyone here?" Brock shouted, and just then, they saw a beautiful red-haired girl rushing out from the back of the yard with a fire behind her.

"It's so hot, so hot! So damn hot!"

Was this really a Gym under a Fire-type specialist?

Ash was stunned for a moment, but then threw out a Poké Ball, "Marshtomp, use Water Gun to put down the flames!"

This is the Pokémon that Ash and just exchanged from the Pokémon Center. He decided to use his dual Water and Ground-type Marshtomp to tear up this Fire-type Gym. This was very consistent with the rest of his plans. This will also check out the training results of Marshtomp, even though he consistently got reports about all of his Pokémon's training, its best to see it with his own eyes.

Marshtomp immersed used a low powered Water Gun to put out the fire on the girl with and the area around her.

This had made her soak and all wet. :)

"We're saved!" The young lady breathed a sigh of relief. Looking at Ash and the others, her eyes suddenly shone with a bright light. She ripped off her wet coat and said heroically, "Thank you for saving me!"

Brock's eyes immediately burst into multiple hearts, "You're too beautiful!"

But before he can ran over and get down to her, the young lady dodged him and came in front of Ash, "Thank you so much. My clothes accidentally caught fire while I wasn't looking. It would have been a disaster if I hadn't met you!"

This young lady looks a little too confused for her own good.

"But why did your clothes catch fire?" May asked with clear concern in her voice.

"Because I was giving special training to Mag and Meg!" With that said, two Slugma came to rest next to the girl. Judging from the names, they should be one male and one female. "In order to let them evolve, I'm helping them do special training for their growth. After training, I accidentally got burned by one of their Flamethrower!" Training Pokémon is very risky if one is not paying attention to themselves.

"By the way, what are you doing here? And who are you guys?" The young girl just realized what she was doing. She hadn't even asked Ash and his group the purpose of their visit, and they hadn't even introduced themselves yet.

"I'm Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town, and I'm here for my Gym Challenge!"

Hearing Ash's words, the young lady suddenly became even more excited than he was, "Great, finally a challenger is here to challenge me!"

"I've been looking forward to a challenger like you coming over to challenge me for so long!" The young lady very excitedly shook hands with Ash, "My name is Flannery, and I finally have a challenger to battle me. I'm so excited!"

Flannerys fighting spirit was already really burning hot. In fact, it was too obvious.

It turns out she was the Gym Leader of the Lavaridge Town Gym.

"But I remember that the Lavaridge Town Gym Leader should be an old man named Mr. Moore!" Brock came back to his senses and told the information he had learned about thsi Gym before coming here from the Pokémon Center.

It turns out that Flannery here was still a novice Gym Leader and has only been in this new position for three days.

Her grandfather Moore went on a trip and left the Gym for her to inherit and run.

When Flannery mentioned this, Ash was stunned there for a moment. This was very similar to Misty's three sisters and even Brock's father. They all used excuses to travel and then delegated their duties as Gym Leaders to their inexperienced family members.

However, it was obvious that this novice Gym Leader does not know what to do yet with her position. She was only focused on training her two Slugma before and even forgot to call someone in to repair the damaged battle field.

At this moment, the battle field at the Lavaridge Town Gym was in tatters and pitted with holes, making it impossible to fight regularly.

Not only that, she didn't even know where her grandfather had put the Gym Badges at.

She was helpless to say the least.

Just as a group of people were helping Flannery rummage through the boxes and hopefully find the missing Badge Case, an old man wearing a beach suit and an afro appeared in front of the door, "Hello, I happened to be passing by. Can I borrow the toilet here? I promise to be quick."

Flannery was stunned for a moment bug nodded, "Okay, there is a corridor there and all you have to do is make a turn."

"Then please come with me, I'm afraid if there is no toilet paper, I wouldn't know where to look for it!" The old man left this sentence and turned around and walked along the corridor.

He arrived at the toilet smoothly and opened the door. Then he pointed to a box on the shelf with a surprised look on his face and said, "Wow! There is a random box over there!"

As he said that, he took down the box and opened it in front of Flannery, "It's so beautiful. Isn't this the Gym Badge of the Lavaridge Town Gym?"

With that, he handed the box to Flannery, said

"goodbye" and wanted to leave immediately, but was blocked by Ash at the door.

Ash smiled and said, "Mr. Moore, I have wanted to meet you for a while."

Ash instantly destroyed his confidence in his disguise ability.

Kapitel 280: 280. Rookie Gym Leader

Mr. Moore's performance in hiding himself were really full of errors and omissions to say the least. Ash thought that anyone with a discerning or even not completely blind eye can think of all the problems in this situation.

Ash knew that if he called Team Rocket over here to him, they would definitely yell at Mr. Moore at just bad he was at his disguise.

But he can probably understand that just like that guy Vito he met before, he dares not speak out about his true dreams because he was burdened with the expectations of his family.

Mr. Moore should have received all the farewells from his friends in the town before setting off for his trip. He must have felt very embarrassed to come back like this, without completing his goal.

"Grandpa!" Flannery finally understood who he was. Who else but her grandpa would know where the location of Heat Badge case was so well, "Why did you come back so soon?"

Now that he was completely exposed, Mr. Moore simply took off his disguise and said with a smile, "It's just that I simply don't trust you!"

It was very true that he was not fully prepared before setting off for the trip and failed to hand over the responsibilities of being a proper Gym Leader to his granddaughter, which made her panic. But he still didn't know that it would be so bad.

"Still as worried as ever." With her grandpa by her side, Flannery feels much more at ease compared to being alone and not knowing what to do.

Mr. Moore's return was even more of a good news for Ash, this meant that he can, just maybe, challenge both of the two Gym Leaders here.

Ash had heard that Mr. Moore's Trump Card, a Typhlosion, was a very powerful Pokémon, so he must try yo battle him out.

Ash also wanted to battle the team members of a former Elite 4 member like Mr. Moore, but he didn't want to be too overbearing.

The group quickly helped Flannery and Mr. Moore to complete the work of repairing the battle arena to its needed level, and then enjoyed their indoor hot springs and sand baths.

The time for his Gym Challenge finally arrived again!

"The rookie Gym Leader Flannery of the Lavaridge Town Gym is challenged by Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town to an Official Gym Battle. Let the battle began!" Now only Flannery and her grandfather, Mr. Moore, are in the Gym at this time, so the battle was temporarily refereed by Mr. Moore, a former Elite 4 member.

"Grandpa, you don't have to call me a rookie in front of so many people!" Flannery said, she was clearly dissatisfied with the prefix her grandmother put in her name.

"Gym Leader Flannery, I am now the referee of this match, you are not allowed to call me grandpa here! Understand!" Mr. Moore said seriously with no loving tone in his voice, "The number of Pokémon's used for this match is limited to three each, and the challenger can also replace their Pokémon, not the Gym Leader!"

According to the agreement Ash had with Flannery and Mr. Moore regarding this Gym battle, among these three Pokémon, Ash only wants to challenge only two of Flannery's Pokémon.

When these two Pokémon lose the ability to fight, Mr. Moore will replace Flannery and use his Trump Card, Typhlosion, to fight against Ash with everything he has.

"Mag, come out!" According to the rules of this Gym challenge, Flannery had to go first, and the one she sent was her lava snail named Mag.

Ash smiled as this was what he had expected, "Stand by for battle, Torchic!"

Seeing Ash's Torchic on the stage, May and Max's eyes lit up, "Ash's first one is Torchic. He is definitely going to evole him."

"Big Bros Torchic is already much more powerful than my yours, May." Max really didn't care about the feelings of his sister at all right right now, because he knew this was exactly the truth.

Ash's Torchic, had a bigger body compared to May's Torchic, who was older than Ash's. Compared to when Ash first caught him, he has grown very strong now, and is obviously stronger than May's one.

Not only that, he was also showing clear signs of evolution.

"You can attack first!" Flannery looked very confident in her Slugma. In this case, Ash won't be polite, he will attack with full blast.

Torchic turned into a fireball and immediately knocked Slugma away from where it was.

"That's so fast!" Flannery exclaimed. Her Pokémon's were all weak when it came to their speed. "Don't give in, Mag, use Flamethrower!"

Slugma's fire power was certainly something to not scoff at.

"Flame Charge!" Ash's command was still the same Flame Charge as his entrance attack. After all, this Attck can do both damage and increase the users speed.

Because Torchic was getting even faster and faster, he easily avoided the Flamethrower and was also too much for Slugmas reaction speed.

"In that case, Mag, use Smokescreen and then use your Double Team!"

Dozens of Slugma suddenly appeared on the battlefield, and Torchic's Flame Charge failed to hit the real one this time.

"How about it? No matter how many of the fake clones you hit, they won't cause any harm to us!" Flannery said with a smile, thinking that she had already taken the initiative for her first win in this battle.

However, Ash smiled and said, "Now now. You can't get too overconfident, can you. Use Flame Burst!"

All of Ash's Fire-type were able to use this advantage version of Ember to their fullest advantages since their early days, that is, in the form of Charmander, Houndour and Cyndaquil, and now even Growlithe, but this time Torchic not only learned Flamethrower, but also learned Flame Burst, which can do more wide spread damage.

And let's not talk about Entei, he can do more than that.

Torchic gathered up a large amount of Fire-type energy in his body, and then his three hairs on the top of my head suddenly all started to burn, and the flames they produced hit several of the Slugam's in front of him.

This attack still managed to hit the the real one, but the efficiency of destroying the clones were much higher, "Continue to use Flame Burst!"

Torchics movements became even more fierce compared to before, and all the Flame Bursts did hit their intended Slugmas, and soon Torchic hit the real body of the Slugma.

Even though the Fire-type attacks didn't do much damage to the Fire-type Slugma, it still shocked Flannery, "It's terrible, what should I do! Mag, cheer up!"

She panicked a lot at this moment, which was a huge mistake for a Gym Leader.

"Calm down, Flannery!" Mr. Moore couldn't stand it anymore and reminded him that this was a real Gym battle and she had to get used to such things.

During all fo Ash's previous challenges at his Gyms, Brock and Misty, who were mostly sitting below, would also shout out their suggestions.

Hearing her grandfather's voice, Flannery tried her best to quickly calm herself down. She looked at the Ash opposite: How could he always remain so calm, indifferent and confident in his every move?

If Ash knew her admiration and doubts about him, he would definitely smile and say that "It's because I believe in my Pokémon's, and they trust me back!"

At this moment, the battlefield was suddenly shrouded in a dazzling light.

"Torchic's evolving!" May and Max exclaimed over the calm Brock, "And now there is another one evolving!"

Both Slugma and Torchic had actually began to evolve together at this time, in the middle of their battle. What a coincidence this is.

The new Magcargo had a heavy and thick shell on his back made completely with hard hot rocks.

And Ash's new Combusken has evolved to become much more powerful, especially the pair of powerful chicken claws and legs, those must have some extremely destructive powers behind them.

This was Ash's ninth Starter Pokémon. Now all of his Hoenn Starters have also completed their first stage of evolution into their second form.

Not his height reached 1.1 meters. This height made Max's eyes sparkle with data. "Big Bros Pokémon's are so powerful. In comparison, May, your Pokémon is far behind. You really have to work hard!"

He must have forgotten how much Torchic beats him up every time he insults him.

Max was truly Ash's biggest fan.

In terms of their current types, after evolution, Magcargo gained the secondary Rock-type, while Combusken got the new Fighting-type, and he also learned two new Fighting-type attacks, Double Kick and Sky Uppercut.

This now makes him able to restrain more of Magcargo.

The battle still continued, Ash clenched his fist tightly and said, "Combusken, use your new Double Kick!"

Right after completing his evolution, Combusken suddenly raised his head, his orange-red eyes flashed with light, and his body turned into an afterimage, and he came to where Magcargo was at an astonishing speed.

"No, Mag, use a Reflect!"

Just then, a transparent psychic barrier appeared in front of Magcargo, which can weaken the opponents physical attacks.

Ash didn't expect that this Magcargo will use such a skill.

But that doesn't mean that he block all of the damage.

Combusken kicked him hard, almost breaking the Reflect and knocking Magcargo backwards for more than a couple meter.

Macarho had obviously just learned this move, which is why it was so easy to damage.

"Magcargo loses its ability to fight, meaning Combusken wins this battle!"

Mr. Moore looked at Ash and thought something very important.

'So this is the boy that defeated that Flying-type specialist.'
