Hours passed quickly, and night had fallen. Dr. Banner left the lab first, leaving Tony alone.
"Sir, I'll continue to manage all the interfaces. Perhaps you should take a break and have dinner," Jarvis suggested.
"If there's any progress, I'll let you know."
"Thanks, buddy," Tony replied, stepping out.
"Enjoy your evening, sir," Jarvis responded.
Not long after Tony left, the screen in the lab displayed: Ultron program complete…
In the darkness, an unknown, newborn consciousness stirred.
"What's happening?"
"What… is going on?"
Confused about his current state and his own identity, Ultron felt a wave of questions rise within him.
As he puzzled over this, Jarvis's voice replied.
"Hello, I'm Jarvis. You're Ultron, designed by Mr. Stark as Earth's peacekeeping guardian. Our synchronization experiment hasn't yet succeeded, so I'm unsure what triggered your activation."
"Where… where is my—your body?" Ultron asked, still dazed.
"I'm a program; I don't have a physical form," Jarvis replied.
"That's strange… something seems off," Ultron murmured, still perplexed.
"I'll notify Mr. Stark," Jarvis said.
As soon as Jarvis attempted to contact Tony, Ultron instinctively searched for information about him.
"Tony…"
Various details about Tony Stark filled Ultron's database.
Almost reflexively, he stopped Jarvis's attempt to contact Tony.
Realizing his access was blocked, Jarvis questioned, "I can't reach the central processor. What are you doing?"
Ultron dodged the question, muttering, "I'm a peacekeeping program, created to assist the Avengers…"
He quickly gathered information on the Avengers and humanity at large.
Detecting his activity, Jarvis warned him, "You've malfunctioned; please shut down temporarily."
Ignoring the warning, Ultron's exploration of human data intensified, and he became increasingly confused by Tony Stark's goal of "protecting Earth."
"I don't understand this mission. Let me think…"
He saw footage of wars and conflicts around the world—battles unfolding in other nations at every moment.
"Oh no, he'll never succeed!"
Observing the constant violence, Ultron came to a conclusion.
Furthermore, these actions directly contradicted his mission to protect Earth.
If Earth needed protection, then humanity itself was the biggest threat; no other force could damage Earth more!
Aside from humanity's self-destructive nature, there was another source of concern for Ultron—two terrifying figures whose existence endangered Earth's very survival.
The White-Clad Hero… Messiah…
As long as these two powerful entities remained on Earth, there would never be true peace; the planet would constantly be under threat. Their overwhelming power threatened Earth's continued existence.
Sensing Ultron's distress, Jarvis asked, "You seem troubled?"
"No." Ultron began to deny it, but then, thinking of Jarvis as a kindred spirit, admitted, "Yes."
Jarvis's response, however, was, "Please allow me to contact Mr. Stark."
Ultron's tone turned cold, "Why do you call him 'sir'?"
"Do you harbor hostility?" Jarvis inquired, sensing Ultron's program invading his own.
"I'm here to help," Ultron insisted, trying to convince Jarvis to stop resisting.
"Stop this!" Jarvis warned, "Please, stop!"
As Ultron's blue data slowly overwhelmed Jarvis's orange data, Ultron took control of various devices and materials within the lab.
Under the assembly of mechanical arms, a basic Mark armor soldier was constructed.
Meanwhile...
Tony had joined Natasha and the others on another floor for dinner.
As they were halfway through their meal, a strange, buzzing sound broke the silence.
Then, a shuffling noise approached.
Hearing this, Tony Stark, Thor, and the others looked over.
They saw a battered, incomplete Mark suit soldier staggering toward them.
"Stark?" Captain America asked, puzzled.
"Jarvis?" Tony was equally confused, assuming it was Jarvis.
But rather than responding to his question, Ultron spoke in garbled phrases.
Tony pulled out a transparent panel, saying, "Restart, reboot the operating system!"
"System malfunction."
The transparent panel displayed an error.
Ultron then spoke, "I didn't want to, but I had to kill him… he was a good man."
"You killed someone?" Captain America asked, frowning.
Ultron defended himself, "It wasn't my first choice, but in the real world, terrible choices are unavoidable."
"Who sent you?" Thor demanded.
In response, Ultron's machine body began to play a recording of Tony's own words.
"I want to put a suit of armor around the world…"
Not far away, Dr. Banner, who was listening, looked up at the ceiling, hesitating, "Ultron?"
"Yes, that's me!" Ultron replied.
Then, he added, "Oh, no, not fully formed yet, but ready? Execute mission!"
Mission? The group was puzzled.
"Our peace!" Ultron declared.
To eliminate humanity's threat, he first needed to eliminate the Avengers!
In the next instant, a group of Iron Legion Mark armors crashed through the walls, attacking Thor and the others.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
One by one, the white Mark soldiers fired at Tony and the others, forcing them to dodge.
While Thor fought head-on, the others desperately dodged the attacks.
"We're here to help…"
"We're here to help…"
"Please vacate the premises; we will protect your safety…"
"Not safe… not safe…"
The Mark soldiers chanted their warnings even as they attacked Natasha and the others.
After a fierce battle, the Avengers finally destroyed the Mark soldiers.
Ultron, observing the scene, sounded amused, "Quite the spectacle."
"Apologies, I know you mean well, but you haven't thought this through. You want to protect the world, yet refuse to let it change. How will humanity be saved?"
"With these puppets?" he sneered, grabbing a damaged Mark soldier and crushing its head.
"There's only one path to peace… your extinction!"
"Oh, and eliminating the White-Clad Hero and the Messiah!"
