Chapter 167: Rose Redemption
Alice's memories were shrouded in a thick veil, obscuring their original form. Despite her best efforts, she could only piece together a single, unclear word:
Amanises.
It was a name... This realization arose naturally in Alice's mind, but she couldn't recall any additional information, despite furrowing her brow in concentration.
Alice pursed her lips and turned to look at Alger.
Alger felt a tightness in his chest.
Alice said nothing, but her expression was unusually calm and detached. The confusion in her eyes gradually turned to nostalgia, eventually leaving only a placid sea of emotion.
Serene, gentle, yet lacking in feeling.
Just like a true deity.
Alger immediately lowered his head and humbly said, "I apologize for overstepping."
Alice glanced at Alger, pursed her lips again without speaking, and quietly rested her head on the table, closing her eyes.
...Who could it be?
It seemed like it should be someone familiar...
Alice couldn't remember anything, but when she recalled this name, her mood inexplicably sank.
Sensing that "Lady Fate" was not in high spirits, the atmosphere of the Tarot Club became somber. No one dared to speak first in this situation.
"Lady Fate," the typically hoarse and gloomy voice of "The World" now sounded particularly melodious, "Did you remember something?"
Alice raised her head and spoke softly:
"I may... I may just be a bit homesick.
"Or maybe not home, just missing my mother... Anyway, you understand what I mean."
Audrey was the quickest to understand Alice's mood.
She wasn't longing for home, her mother, or any specific thing.
She simply needed a place that felt safe enough and a person she could completely trust.
But Alice's emotions rarely lingered for long. The melancholy had almost dissipated after she finished speaking, though she found it difficult to immediately become cheerful again.
"Please continue," Alice said, pinching the bridge of her nose.
Alger didn't speak immediately, instead pondering the recent events.
Although Alice hadn't said anything directly, her unusual reaction revealed that she had a deep connection to the term "Rose Redemption," far beyond mere hearsay.
It was something capable of stirring her emotions.
Perhaps they belonged to the same era... Alger lowered his gaze, considering this possibility.
Although he had speculated that Alice might be from a considerably ancient time, this was the first time Alger had encountered anything that could be considered evidence.
If the Silver City was the rumored "God-forsaken Land," then perhaps "Lady Fate" came from the Second Epoch...
However, there were still many things that couldn't be explained.
Setting aside the difficulty of verifying Alice's existence in the poorly documented history of the Second Epoch, there was a crucial question—where did the language used by Roselle come from, and why did it disappear?
Not to mention Alice's familiarity with the Western Continent, the legendary homeland of elves, a land whose very existence could not be verified today.
Alger ultimately set aside this speculation and turned to Derrick, asking, "I remember there were words similar to 'Rose Redemption' in that semi-abandoned temple, right?"
Derrick nodded without hesitation, "Yes, in the corner of a mural. It was written in a script derived from the Giant language. It took us some time to decipher it."
"A script derived from the Giant language..." Alger pondered for a moment, then carefully made a request, materializing a line of words.
It was "Rose Redemption" in Ancient Fesak.
Derrick looked closely and was suddenly surprised:
"It's very similar, just different in how the word endings are handled.
"Mr. Hanged Man, is this the script from your region?"
As he spoke, Derrick recreated the words from the mural.
"Yes," Alger confirmed, "This language itself has evolved. What you discovered should belong to an earlier type."
Alice silently glanced at The Fool, the former history major, and asked Derrick, "What about the content of the corresponding mural?"
"I wasn't responsible for that area, and I didn't look closely before leaving..." Derrick replied shamefully.
"Find an opportunity to clarify it," Alice reminded him.
"Certainly!" Derrick nodded vigorously, his eyes full of trust and hope.
Seeing him relax a bit, Audrey asked curiously and somewhat puzzled:
"Mr. Hanged Man, if that little boy called Jack is truly the child of a 'Listener' as you described, why can he communicate with 'The Sun' and the others?"
Alice blinked, looked at Audrey, and speculated:
"Miss Justice, you probably haven't experienced many supernatural events, have you?
"For high-sequence beings, even resurrection isn't too difficult, let alone learning a language. Just the methods I know for acquiring languages include... Wait, why did I still have to attend classes back then?"
Alice suddenly realized something and sat up straight.
Audrey, who had just been regretting once again revealing her ignorance of the supernatural world, fell into deep thought.
...Why does "Lady Fate" seem to have such a deep aversion to attending classes?
Alger also fell into contemplation.
It had to be said that "Lady Fate" was unexpectedly... human-like in some aspects.
Klein also sank into thought.
As a former high school student, even a senior, it was perfectly normal to dislike studying and learning.
If that's the case... would she be afraid of teachers?
Klein looked at Alice, suddenly coming up with a bold idea.
After resolving Derrick's issue, the Tarot Club proceeded with its normal routine.
When the boring trading session ended, "The World" reminded them in his hoarse voice:
"Ladies and gentlemen, a disaster is brewing in Backlund. Please be careful in the near future."
Audrey immediately asked with concern, "What kind of disaster? Is there a way to prevent it?"
"The World" didn't speak, but instead looked at Alice.
Seeing this, the others also turned their gaze to Alice.
"...A plague," Alice blinked and said, "A plague caused by a witch, which will start in the East Borough of Backlund. As for preventing it..."
Alice chuckled lightly and continued, "Does anyone want to experience being hunted by the King of Angels?"
