Charles prepared himself mentally for the meeting, knowing the importance of the conversation ahead. After having a quick dinner, he headed out to the Cullens' home, feeling a mix of anticipation and determination as he approached the house, ready to share what he could about his purpose and powers while keeping certain details close to his chest.
As Charles sped down the road, enjoying a rare moment of peace, a sudden feeling of something being terribly wrong jolted him from his tranquility. Trusting his instincts, he pulled his bike over, popped the hazard lights on, and focused on the unease. Suddenly, a vision flashed before him—James, the dangerous vampire, stalking Avery as she walked in the woods behind his house.
A surge of uncontrollable rage ignited within him, his vision turning red as white-hot flames of anger consumed him. For the first time in this life, he let loose all of his strength. The ground beneath him cracked and crumbled as he launched himself with terrifying speed toward his home, determined to reach Avery before it was too late.
Charles tore through the trees, leaving a path of destruction in his wake as he raced toward Avery. The noise of his approach caught her attention, and she turned in his direction, her eyes wide with confusion and fear. Just as she did, Charles saw James land behind her, fangs bared, ready to bite.
Without hesitation, Charles burned every ounce of his energy, his form blurring as he flashed to Avery's side in an instant. His left arm shot out, wedging itself into James's mouth, preventing the vampire from sinking his teeth into her neck.
Charles stared at James, his face unnervingly calm, sending chills down the vampire's spine. James instinctively tried to pull back, but Charles's right hand shot out, gripping his neck with unyielding strength. A low growl rumbled from Charles's throat as he spoke, "I gave you one chance, and this is how you choose to spend it—by attacking my mate!"
A small gasp escaped from beside him, drawing Charles's attention. He turned to see Avery looking up at him, her eyes wide with a mix of fear and wonder.
Seeing the fear in Avery's eyes, Charles's anger subsided. He whispered to her gently, "I could never harm you. I'll explain everything soon, just wait for me for a moment."
Charles quickly dug out his keys from his pocket and handed them to Avery. "Wait inside. I'll return soon."
Avery hesitated for a moment before grabbing the keys. As soon as she had them, Charles took off at an incredible speed, heading straight for the Cullens' home.
Charles arrives at the Cullens' home, finding them all standing outside. Without hesitation, he breaks off James' arms and legs, holding him as he calls out to the Cullens, "This living garbage attacked my mate. This is your territory, so it is up to you to uphold justice. I call for his life—what say you?"
The shock is evident on all their faces, but Carlisle steps forward, his expression resolute. "Then his life you shall have for his crime, so says I in the name of the Olympic coven."
Charles nods in acknowledgment, grateful for the understanding and the rules he remembers from the old vampire's memories. He looks down at James, who is now helpless, and speaks a single word, "Flammae." Instantly, flames erupt around James, consuming him and turning him to ash within seconds.
Carlisle approaches Charles, his tone both curious and respectful. "Now then, what are you? You move like us, you know our customs, but I can hear your heartbeat from here. Sorry if this seems rude of me."
Charles shakes his head with a slight smile. "Not at all. I was hoping this meeting would have had a more peaceful start. My name is Charles. I am a first-generation vampire, newly awakened within the last 25 years. Fortunately, I was awakened when my body was about a year old, allowing me to grow up in modern society. This way, I became accustomed to this time rather than my original era."
The Cullens' expressions shift from curiosity to shock. It's clear that what Charles has revealed is far beyond anything they expected.
