Kapitel 26: Chapter 26 - Rodon

The next morning, Kyle was forced to climb out of bed early.

Because he hadn't drawn the curtains last night, the sunlight streamed through the dorm's circular window, shining directly on his face like a spotlight.

Who could sleep with that?

Kyle reluctantly got dressed and stretched, walking over to the window.

Because Hogwarts Castle wasn't located on flat ground, even though the dorm was in the basement, it was sunny. Through the dorm's circular window, you could see the swaying grass and dandelions outside.

Kyle glanced at his two roommates, who were sleeping soundly, and emotionlessly opened the window as wide as it would go.

They still had five years before their O.W.L.s exams. How could they sleep at this age?

Besides, it was already 7:30. Rounding it up, it was 8:50, only a few minutes before class started at nine.

After all, this was their first lesson at Hogwarts. They had to make a good impression on the professors. It wouldn't be good if they were late.

And the early morning breeze, misty with water, was the best alarm clock.

"I'm so thoughtful," Kyle nodded with satisfaction.

He was really doing it for his roommates, not that he wanted them to wake up early with him. He was a Hufflepuff, he wouldn't do something like that.

After a quick wash, Kyle left the dorm through the common room passage.

As everyone knows, the staircases at Hogwarts have a personality. They're like they have their consciousness. They always change directions when a young wizard is in a hurry, then silently enjoy the unlucky person's desperate cries.

Kyle was prepared to walk around a few times. But he didn't know if it was because he had plenty of time now, or because the staircases weren't working yet.

He walked from the common room to the Great Hall, and the stairs never changed once. The whole time was very quiet.

This made Kyle a little disappointed. Honestly, he wanted to try it.

It wasn't even eight o'clock yet, but the Great Hall was already full of people. The Ravenclaw table was almost full, and there were a few upperclassmen from other houses.

Except for Hufflepuff… just Kyle.

As soon as he sat down, a steaming breakfast appeared on his plate.

A glass of milk, two sausages, and a piece of bread.

Not luxurious, but pretty good. He could ask for more if he wanted.

Kyle leisurely ate his breakfast. Soon, two familiar figures walked into the Great Hall, one after the other.

"Hi Kyle, why are you up so early?" Mickel and Ryan walked over quickly.

"I didn't want to be. I was going to sleep in, but the window in the dorm was open, and the wind was blowing in. It was too cold, I couldn't sleep." Kyle calmly cut a sausage and put it in his mouth, "What about you? Why are you up so early?"

"We're the same." Mickel said with a wry face, "I thought you had opened the window."

"The window was open when I left."

Kyle emphasized the words "when I left."

"Oh, okay. Maybe it was blown open by the wind." Mickel took a big bite of bread, "But it's good this way. I didn't fall asleep until after midnight last night. If the window wasn't open, I wouldn't be able to wake up before nine.

If I were late for the first class… I wouldn't even want to think about the consequences. I would definitely be expelled."

Ryan nodded in agreement.

Although he woke up at eight o'clock at home, it was because his mom had forcibly pulled him out of bed.

If he had slept until he woke up naturally, he probably wouldn't have made it to the first class either.

Kyle laughed and said, "Then you guys should really thank whoever was kind enough to open the window."

"Yeah."

The two, sleepily, were busy eating breakfast. Nobody noticed anything wrong with Kyle's words.

Mickel even agreed, "It really helped a lot."

At this time, Kyle finished his last sip of milk, got up, and said, "You guys continue eating. I'm going to go look around."

"Okay." The two said in unison.

...

After bidding farewell to his roommates, who were lost in their food, Kyle headed straight for the castle gate.

It was just after eight o'clock, and there was still plenty of time before class. Taking advantage of this free time, Kyle decided to solve his pet problem first.

The dorm already had a cat and a toad. He couldn't be the odd one out.

Walking out of the castle gate, Kyle raised his arm expertly.

In an instant, seven or eight owls swooped down from all directions, landing neatly on the stone steps in front of him.

"It's not about delivering a letter this time." Kyle looked at them and said, "I'm going to be at Hogwarts for a long time, and during this time, I hope I can hire one of you to be my messenger.

In terms of rewards… meals are all covered, at least one package of owl nuts a day, at least three packages of Wrackspurt jerky a week, and a bottle of owl tonic a month… that's for now. If there's anything else you need, we can add it later.

Besides, these conditions will still apply even after I graduate, until it can no longer lift its wings.

So, if any of you are willing, fly onto my shoulder."

This had nothing to do with Kyle's family talent.

As dedicated messengers of the wizarding world, owls have a natural affinity for magic. With a little training, they can understand wizards' words.

And these owls from Hogwarts were especially good at this.

Although Kyle's words were a bit complicated for them, they could understand about 70% or 80% with some body language.

In less than a second, the owls scrambled to fly towards Kyle's shoulder.

Some of the slower ones even attacked the owls in front of them.

For a moment, it was chaotic, with feathers scattered everywhere.

Kyle scratched his head in amusement, trying to stop them. But it was too late. This situation was already beyond his control.

Fortunately, it didn't last long.

A tawny owl, taking advantage of its massive size, easily defeated the other contenders and stood proudly on Kyle's shoulder.

Kyle recognized this owl.

It was about three years ago. When Chris found it, it was covered in wounds, unconscious, and dying at the entrance to the Ministry of Magic's reception area. It was still clutching an undelivered letter in its claws.

Because he found it in time, Chris immediately treated it and took it home to carefully care for it for more than half a month. Finally, it came back to life.

Despite this, it had a long scar on its face.

This kind of scar was caused by dark magic. It was difficult to remove. Even Chris and Newt couldn't do it, and even feathers couldn't cover it.

This made it look unusually… ugly compared to other owls.

But Kyle didn't care. He scratched the tawny owl's neck feathers and smiled, "Hello, Rodon."

It tilted its head and rubbed its beak gently against Kyle's finger.

Rodon, that was the nickname Kyle gave it.

Because he didn't know its name at first, Kyle called it this just to make it easier to feed.

He didn't expect it to remember it.

When Hagrid found out and came to take it back, he shouted "Seiban, Seiban" in the nearby forest for more than half an hour, and it didn't respond at all.

It only slowly flew out when Kyle whispered "Rodon" from the side.

Hagrid was stunned at the time. He couldn't recover for a long time. It felt like Kyle had kidnapped the daughter he had raised with so much effort.

He couldn't have been more disappointed.
