As soon as the trio entered the cool, polished lobby of Elena's office building, Phil gently touched Elena's arm, signaling her to stop so they could talk.
Fiona, sensing they needed a moment, excused herself with a soft smile. Elena stopped to look at Phil, waiting for him to say why they stopped even though she could already guess it.
She could feel her heart quicken, knowing what Phil wanted to talk about, but she was determined to prevent the conversation at least for now.
"Phil, I'm really sorry about Dan…" she began, her voice trailing off as she looked up at him, searching for the right words.
She didn't want Phil to be hurt by Dan's baseless jealousy, and she certainly didn't want this to be the way they discussed their future.
But Phil shook his head, cutting her off. "I don't care about Dan, Lens. That's not what I want to talk about right now," he said and Elena struck her tongue to the corners of her mouth.
