Lark placed his hand on his chest and bowed slightly.

"Mm... No need to thank me, his majesty is the one who has ordered me to come and assist you if need be."

Nicolai spoke, walking past Lark and pulling out a chair from the elegant table to take a seat.

He sat down and continued:

"So then, care to explain why you restricted my movements for the past week?"

Lark took a deep breath, pulled out a chair of his own and sat opposite Nicolai.

"Before that, I have not yet had dinner, would you care to join me?"

Lark snapped his fingers, prompting the former Elder, Kornis to step into the light once more.

Kornis pushed a tray toward them, carrying a bottle of expensive wine, two crystal clear glasses and a large golden cloche.
