(I fix the issue that occurs in this chapter. Sorry for the mistake)
Faced with mounting pressure, Trafalgar Law and Bepo felt the weight of their circumstances.
However, having faced countless hardships since childhood, Law wasn't about to be defeated by the string of bad news.
He remained determined to hide his identity, escape the North Blue, and one day avenge his fallen crewmates after growing stronger.
After quickly finishing the bread in his hands, Law urged Bepo, "Eat faster. We can't stay on any island for too long."
Bepo nodded, his large bear head bobbing, and began eating faster. Just as Bepo was about to finish his meal, a commotion erupted outside the tavern.
Following that came synchronized footsteps, as if hundreds of well-trained soldiers assembled at the tavern's entrance.
Law's face immediately darkened upon hearing the sound.
He knew that the only group capable of such an organized military presence in the North Blue was the soldiers of the Vinsmoke Family.
Despite all their efforts to avoid detection, it seemed that the Vinsmoke Family had found him and Bepo.
A smug voice called out from outside, "Trafalgar Law, we've got you surrounded. Are you coming out alone, or must we drag you out?"
The other tavern patrons, upon hearing this, began to grow anxious.
They had just been talking about the Vinsmoke Family and the Heart Pirates, and now it seemed their worst fears had come true.
Law had fought and defeated Vinsmoke Niji in a previous encounter but had sustained serious injuries.
Since then, he and Bepo had been fleeing while fighting off their pursuers, giving him no time to rest and recover.
Now, outside the tavern, not only was Vinsmoke Niji present, but his older brother, Vinsmoke Ichiji, was there as well.
Given Law's current state, he was no match for them. While Law raced to find a way out, Ichiji's voice rang again from outside,
"Trafalgar Law, I'll give you three seconds. After that, we'll take you if you're still inside." Panic gripped the tavern's patrons.
They wanted to flee, but none dared to move.
Vinsmoke soldiers surrounded the tavern, and trying to escape might have led to their being mistaken for Law, sealing their fate.
If they were killed by mistake, there would be no one to defend them.
Some patrons frantically began pleading, "Vinsmoke Family, sirs, the one you're after is Trafalgar Law! We're innocent. Please spare us!"
Ichiji ignored the desperate pleas inside the tavern and began counting coldly, "One!"
The patrons inside were growing more desperate by the second, and someone shouted angrily, "Who in here is Trafalgar Law?"
"Just go out there and face the Vinsmoke Family! Don't drag the rest of us into this!"
"Yeah, why should we suffer because of you? You've angered the Vinsmoke Family—it has nothing to do with us!"
"Why don't you just die on your own? Why take the rest of us down with you?"
One man, on the verge of tears, sobbed, "I don't want to die! I've got a wife and kids who need me!"
"Law, just give yourself up already!"
Bepo clenched his fists in anger at the harsh words being thrown around, thinking, "Damn it!" He wanted to fight back, but Law stopped him.
In a low voice, Law said, "They're right. This has nothing to do with them. We can't let innocent people die because of us."
"They have families, people they want to protect."
Bepo's voice trembled as he responded, "Captain…"
Law sighed, "They're mainly after me. They likely won't care about you. You should escape with the crowd in the confusion when I go out there."
"No! I'm staying with you."
Law smiled bitterly and patted Bepo's furry head. "It's okay. The Heart Pirates need at least one survivor."
"Two!"
Ichiji's voice rang out again from outside. The tavern erupted into even louder shouts and curses.
Law took a deep breath and yelled, "I'm coming out! Just leave these innocent people alone!"
As soon as Law's voice was heard, Vinsmoke Ichiji and Niji exchanged triumphant glances. This was all part of their plan.
After fighting Law, they knew a standard siege wouldn't work against his strange Devil Fruit powers.
But now, with Law trapped in the tavern, his ability to use his powers to their full extent was limited.
They needed only to hear his voice to confirm his location, and they would strike before he could use his powers.
"Attack!"
Outside the tavern, five hundred soldiers simultaneously opened fire at the spot where Law's voice had come from.
A torrent of bullets tore through the tavern's flimsy walls, exposing Law and Bepo to the line of fire.
"Damn!" Law hadn't anticipated that the enemy would be this cautious. He quickly extended his hand and muttered, "ROOM!"
Despite his injuries, he created a spherical space large enough to cover the tavern.
In an instant, he and Bepo swapped places with a barrel of ale across the room, narrowly avoiding the bullets.
The barrage tore apart the barrel, and the bullets continued to wreak havoc inside the tavern.
The innocent patrons, who had hoped that surrendering Law would save them, were slaughtered mercilessly.
They had been naive to believe that the Vinsmoke Family would spare them. In the North Blue, the Vinsmoke Family's power was absolute.
Even if they wiped out every person on this island, no one would dare object, let alone a handful of commoners in a tavern.
Niji scowled as he watched Law dodge the attack. "His powers are so damn annoying!"
Ichiji, however, smiled. "Annoying or not, today he's not getting away."
Given their strength and Law's injured state, capturing him would be easy.
Law looked over at Bepo, who was supporting him, a deep sadness in his eyes.
He hadn't expected that the last two surviving members of the Heart Pirates would also fall to the Vinsmoke Family.
Law recalled his betrayal of the Donquixote Family. He returned to his homeland in the North Blue to form the Heart Pirates.
His goal had always been clear—to one day destroy the Donquixote Family, kill Doflamingo, and avenge Corazon.
But this dream was about to end today, and the thought of it filled Law with a deep sense of unwillingness.
There were still so many things he hadn't done yet, and he didn't want to die. Moreover, if he was going to die, it had to be after Doflamingo.
In that instant, Law's mind raced, desperately searching for a way to escape. Suddenly, he recalled a conversation he overheard in the tavern.
He didn't care what consequences might follow from saying what he was about to say—anything was better than dying at the hands of the Vinsmoke family.
Just as Vinsmoke Niji was about to strike, Law spoke up, "If you kill me, you'll bring a lot of trouble to your Vinsmoke family."
Niji scoffed, "You, a man on the verge of death, think you can bring trouble to the Vinsmoke family? What a joke."
Law's expression remained serious as he continued, "You must have heard by now that the Night organization is searching for me, right?"
"Well, I'm a member of Night. They're looking for me because I sent out a distress signal to the organization."
Upon hearing this, the lightning flickering around Niji's hands paused, though he hadn't yet attacked.
The Vinsmokes had heard rumours that the Night organization was searching for the Heart Pirates.
However, they never expected that Law himself was a member of this mysterious organization.
If that were true, killing him would surely invite the wrath of Night
While the Vinsmokes didn't fear many things, they knew better than to take Night lightly. Angering them could bring unnecessary trouble to their family.
Seeing Niji hesitate, Law quietly sighed in relief. His gamble had worked—the threat of Night had shaken him. It was Law's last-ditch effort, and he knew it.
Even if Night were to be displeased and kill him for using their name, it would still be better than dying here today.
Just as Niji hesitates, Vinsmoke Ichiji, dressed in his red battle suit, is displeased.
"Are you saying that the Vinsmoke family should be afraid of Night? Do you think you can scare us with that name?"
"In the North Blue, the Vinsmoke family reigns supreme," Ichiji declared coldly. "Even the Marines and the World Government bow to us here."
"No matter who it is—even Night—they will obey us in the North Blue."
As the eldest son of the Vinsmoke family, Ichiji refused to acknowledge that any force in the North Blue could rival their power.
"Even if you are part of Night, if you've offended us, death is the only outcome," Ichiji continued coldly. "Niji, kill Trafalgar Law."
At that moment, in the far corner of the tavern, two figures dressed in black cloaks adorned with crescent moon symbols stood silently.
One wore a white pigeon mask, while the other had a black mask split by a striking purple lightning bolt, almost like it cleaved the mask in two.
These two were Enel and Rob Lucci, members of the Night organization, who had been tasked with finding the Heart Pirates. The two have a good relationship.
This bond was primarily formed because Lucci had arrived on Skypiea following Night's instructions a few days earlier, where he encountered Enel.
Although Enel had not attacked Lucci, his hostility was evident.
Lucci did not report this to Byakuya and instead followed his orders to teach Enel the basics of Haki.
As they trained, the two fought frequently, with Lucci losing more often than winning, but their strengths improved considerably.
Enel noticed that while Lucci had initially been weaker than him, he was catching up quickly, which made him find Lucci increasingly interesting.
Thus, he acknowledged Lucci as a comrade.
Their mission to locate Law in the North Blue had led them here, and with Enel's vast observation range through his "Mantra" (Observation Haki), they had quickly located him.
However, before they could make contact, the scene had unfolded.
Enel, confused, asked, "Do you think Trafalgar Law already knows about our purpose? Otherwise, why would he claim to be part of Night?"
While strong, Enel was inexperienced in certain matters and often sought advice from Lucci, whom he respected as a comrade.
Lucci calmly explained, "Law only says that because he's cornered. He's trying to use the name Night to scare the Vinsmokes away."
Enel smirked. "But it looks like they're not taking us seriously."
"Let's go," Lucci said. "It's time to teach the Vinsmokes a lesson about what it means to defy Night. Besides, if Law dies at their hands, our mission will fail."
Upon hearing his brother's order, Niji wasted no time.
The lightning around his hand flickered again, wrapping around his fist like a coiling serpent, making a crackling noise.
Law's heart sank. It seemed that invoking the name of Night hadn't worked. Today, he really might die here.
In his final moments, Law couldn't help but wonder why Night was searching for him. But it seemed he would never know the answer.
"Die! Electric Fist!" Niji roared, launching his lightning-covered fist toward Law. Law, too weak to dodge, could only brace himself.
Suddenly, a teasing voice echoed, "Young man, that's not how you use lightning."
A massive thunder dragon appeared before Law, claws of pure electricity blocking Niji's punch. Two cloaked figures appeared between Law and Niji.
"Is that...?" The crowd gasped, wide-eyed. "The Night organization!"
Law rubbed his eyes in disbelief. He never thought that Night would show up and save him at the last second.
Enel sneered, "Let me show you how to use lightning properly. Thunder Dragon!"
With a wave of Enel's hand, the massive thunder dragon that had shielded Law came to life, twisting and coiling through the air.
In the face of Enel's overwhelming lightning power, Niji's electrical abilities looked like a child's play.
The thunder dragon struck Niji, engulfing him in its body as countless bolts of lightning ravaged him.
If not for his specialized combat suit, which activated a protective shield in emergencies, Niji would have been reduced to a charred corpse.
"Niji!" Ichiji yelled in panic, watching his brother suffer.
He turned toward Lucci and demanded, "Are you Night members willing to oppose the Vinsmoke family in the North Blue?"
Lucci smirked. "Didn't I just hear you say that even Night has to listen to the Vinsmokes in the North Blue? I'd like to see how you plan to make us obey."
Ichiji's face darkened. He had never imagined that his earlier boastful words would draw out members of Night.
Seeing his brother on the verge of collapse, he clenched his teeth and lowered his head.
"I apologize for my earlier words. On behalf of the Vinsmoke family, I offer my sincerest apologies. Please forgive my rudeness."
Lucci pointed at Law, still standing not far away, and said calmly, "It's not me you should apologize to. It's him."
Ichiji was shocked. "Trafalgar Law?"
"That's right. He's a member of Night, and you attacked him. The only outcome for that... is death."
