Kapitel 82: Chapter 81 - Basilisk 01.

[Chapter Size: 1700 Words.]

Third Person POV

Hogwarts.

...

...

Moaning Myrtle floated aimlessly through the girls' bathroom on the second floor, passing by the old sinks and dusty mirrors. Her days were, as always, lonely and monotonous. Since becoming a ghost, her life—or existence, as she preferred to call it—had been reduced to watching over the empty and solitary bathroom, occasionally lamenting her fate and, of course, scaring any unsuspecting student who dared enter her current abode.

Today was no different. She had spent most of the time whimpering to herself as she had been doing all these years, bemoaning the injustice of her death after she saw those two shining eyes, her last memory before she found herself as a ghost.

As she was once again lamenting her existence while crying another night in that empty bathroom, she suddenly heard a faint, almost inaudible sound as the bathroom door opened.

'Someone's here?!' she immediately murmured. 'I'll scare this one like I do all the others!!' she exclaimed internally, quickly leaving the stall she was in and heading straight for the person walking in the middle of the bathroom at this hour of the night.

"What are you doing here?!" she immediately exclaimed, advancing towards a boy there.

But expecting a scare from the other party, what didn't happen was Snape looking at her immediately with a look of disdain.

Myrtle, expecting to scare a student, ended up being scared herself by the malevolent eyes of that student as they shone in blue, which made her quickly regret the idea of scaring him.

"AHHHHH!!!" Her scream was sharp and sad as she tried to quickly move away from that scary boy, but something even scarier happened as she tried to distance herself from Snape, who was looking unpleasantly at her and grabbed her arm, making her immediately feel touched by a living being, something that should be impossible.

"Hey, can you stop being so annoying?" Snape said angrily with these senseless screams of the ghost.

"What is this? How are you doing this?" Moaning Myrtle immediately exclaimed, scared, trying to release her hand as she was terrified while continuing to be held captive.

"You're that girl who died, aren't you?" Snape asked curiously to the ghost in front of him.

"Please, let me go!!!" She began to exclaim, trying to pull her hand away, not believing she could feel the touch of someone alive after so many years.

"You better stop moaning like that. It's been irritating me," Snape spoke in a dark tone, and this made her even more afraid of him, thinking that he was threatening her life at this moment. She immediately widened her eyes and put her hand over her mouth, trying to avoid screaming, but still looked at him frightened.

"Answer my question. You're that girl who died, aren't you?" He asked again.

She nodded carefully, shaking her head as she felt like crying, thinking she would die if she didn't answer any question from this student.

"Great. I want to ask you some questions," Snape began. "First, I need to know if you saw the basilisk," he asked, after all, it seems that she was the girl who died from petrification, but no one had been able to find the ancient snake... this happened in 1943, over 30 years ago.

She shook her head, not remembering having seen clearly how she died, just two big eyes.

"I see...." Snape murmured disappointed as the girl didn't really seem to know, so he continued his research with what the house-elves said, after all, the snake's chamber should be in this bathroom.

In the end, Snape let her go, while she flew away, as far from him as possible, maintaining a frightened look. "Can you tell me how you died, then...?" Snape asked, wanting to find clues.

Moaning Myrtle pondered whether she should answer him or not. But out of fear, she started stuttering in a tearful tone. "Yes, yes, I will answer!" she immediately said. "Listen, I... I was crying over that idiot Olivia Hornby, who always teases me about my glasses and hair... While I was here sad, crying and alone... in this bathroom... I suddenly heard someone speaking a strange language... Then, when I went to open the door to see, I encountered something odd... I don't know what it was. It had huge eyes, and it immediately petrified me. After that... I became like this," she spoke, while Snape thought for a moment.

"I see. Some records from Salazar about this place and what the house-elves have said... so this must be the entrance. But then, someone opened it with a strange language... perhaps the language of snakes as Salazar could speak... but who did it?" Snape murmured, still puzzled.

Setting that aside along with the still frightened ghost, he quickly began to tour the bathroom, inspecting each corner and tapping to see if he could find another hollow part, to locate the entrance, giving some strong taps with his finger to try and hear something.

Moaning Myrtle saw this and, despite the fear, still looked on curiously from a distance while Snape posed no threat as such. Snape checked all the toilets and went back to the sink in the middle of the place. He touched the first sink, moving to the second, but at the last touch of the first, he stopped and looked at it, touching it again and feeling a hollow space while the sound seemed to echo from beneath it, he wouldn't have heard this a year ago, but now he had super hearing. He touched another sink to test, and the same thing happened with all the others, as he circled around the entire place.

"So, it's in here," he concluded as he looked at the structure while studying it a bit.

"What is he doing?" Moaning Myrtle murmured, still floating near the ceiling, and was even more surprised when Snape simply pointed his fist at the sinks. He stretched his arm back before moving forward and blowing up the entire place.

"Aaaaah!" The ghost immediately screamed, as she watched the entire bathroom explode. "What are you doing?!" She seemed hysterical, but Snape ignored her as he seemed satisfied with what he was seeing in front of him.

"So it's here indeed," Snape's voice was heard as he reappeared, with the debris and dust beginning to settle.

His goal was getting closer as he kept his gaze on the destroyed site, seeing a hole big enough for a thousand-year-old basilisk to pass through.

"What is this?! What do you plan to do?!" Myrtle couldn't help but exclaim.

Snape just looked at her with an excited smile. "I'm going to kill a basilisk." Myrtle just heard his response before the boy simply jumped into the hole without any fear.

Snape felt his body fall for just 5 meters, as he landed in a more open space with ease. He looked around, seeing some droplets falling through the corridor with some pipes passing through this cavern. But, setting that aside, he summoned his wand, creating a "Lumos" spell to light up the place and advance.

"Let's go...." He murmured as he moved forward.

It didn't take long for him to feel the place open up as he got closer to the bottom, his gaze fell to the side as the reflection of flames began to light up from various sides, revealing that he was in a sort of corridor with one of the two sides from where Snape was.

The entire place was finally exposed while a large statue was revealed, there seemed to be more corridors beyond that, but he would find out more about that later... "So this is Salazar's Chamber? It's been 30 years since someone was here in 1943 and released the basilisk," Snape concluded as he studied the place.

He approached the statue, but couldn't detect the basilisk anywhere inside. However, observing the huge mouth of the statue, he quickly knew there was something inside as soon as he touched his fingers feeling the hollow space.

"So this is where you hide," Snape said, cracking a smile.

Without wasting any time, he stepped back while raising his wand and began to cast an explosion spell, detonating the area. However, the statue remained intact. Raising an eyebrow, Snape once again lifted his wand and launched another attack, exploding in the middle of the mouth. But to his frustration, it still remained intact. He began to cast more and more spells, but nothing worked.

"It seems I'll have to use this again, let's opt for brute force," he concluded while looking at his own fist, closing and opening his hand. He approached the mouth of the statue again and started punching it. Immediately, his fist sank into the rocks, cracking the spot but not completely breaking it. He stepped back a bit and punched again, breaking more, and repeated this for the third, fourth, fifth, and, on the sixth time, finally blew the spot open, creating a huge opening in front of him.

The basilisk was having its peaceful sleep when it began to hear the earthquakes, which immediately enraged it. As soon as it saw the opening of its little chamber, it quickly advanced, finding a human there, looking calmly. The basilisk could sense his mixed blood, which immediately irritated it, wanting to eliminate him once and for all.

The air in the chamber darkened even more as the basilisk emerged from its lair. With a fluid movement, as it crawled, the gigantic serpent slid through the opening. Its body was as wide as the trunk of a centuries-old tree, covered in greenish, shiny scales that reflected the light from the flames around. The snake looked at Snape while making a friction sound, a menacing hiss that echoed through the cavern as it flicked its tongue out.

The creature's eyes were menacing, then they glowed in a malicious and malevolent tone, Snape felt his body trying to be petrified, but he just laughed despite looking directly at that intruder.

Snape looked at the basilisk with interest, while moving his hand and drawing the sword from his inventory. The metal of the blade immediately glinted against the flames in the area, and he was ready to face this creature, hoping for a good combat.
