Lizette's lips curled into a smile as she and Mike entered the gate together.
The welcoming ceremony came to a swift conclusion, and the housekeepers gradually dispersed.
Fannie was self-conscious and remained in her spot.
She explained, "Mrs. Moore, I really didn't-"
Margaret interjected, "Shut up! Aren't you usually pretty tough? How come you can't even handle a wild girl?"
Fannie did not dare to make any more excuses when she saw that Margaret was genuinely angry.
Margaret looked up at the study on the second-floor with a somber expression and said, "Dad said he invited her here to treat him, but I know that the old man is still thinking about that marriage agreement. Back then, Mina Young couldn't marry into our family because she ran off with some guy. Now, she wants her daughter to get together with my son? In her dreams!"
Fannie flattered her at the right moment. "Mrs. Moore, please rest assured. I will definitely help you drive away that despicable woman!"
Margaret hummed in satisfaction.
Upon turning around, she saw Fannie's clothes and could not help but frown. "What are you, a servant, doing wearing luxury brands? Change out of them! Now!"
Fannie's heart sank with a tinge of injustice. The clothes were given to her by Margaret when she did not want them anymore.
She mumbled to herself, but her footsteps never faltered as she quickly jogged back to the housekeeper's room.
...
In the study on the second floor, Bryan's first reaction when seeing Lizette was not joy but confusion.
He had seen Lizette during her childhood. She was fair and delicate; a one-in-a-million beauty and cute girl. How on earth did she grow up to be so rough and unkempt?
Lizette ignored Bryan's scrutinizing gaze and simply nodded as a greeting before she began to take his pulse and ask about his symptoms.
Although she graduated from a top medical school, she was deeply influenced by Scirwode, a master of traditional medicine, since her childhood. Now, not only did she possess first-rate clinical skills, but her ability to diagnose others also far surpassed that of Scirwode.
Others might not be aware of this information, but Bryan certainly knew a little about it. At that moment, he was also very cooperative with Lizette.
After a thorough examination, she took out a notebook and did some calculations. A while later, she nodded in approval and wrote a prescription using her pen.
She wrote two copies of prescription; one as a backup, and the other was handed to Bryan's personal butler, Claus.
Lizette reminded, "Old Mr. Moore, your overall health is in good condition, and the few chronic illnesses you have are all well under control. The focus is still on maintaining your health. Summer is just around the corner, so I've adjusted the dosage of a few medications. Please remember to take them on time."
Bryan gazed at Lizette with adoration.
Her serious and professional demeanor was the spitting image of Scirwode back in the day.
If such a virtuous woman could marry into the Moore family, it would be a blessing for the Moore family, even if she might be a bit ugly.
"Alright, alright, alright," Bryan repeated the word three times.
Lizette could hear the affection in Bryan's words and quickly looked up. She smiled, revealing her yellow teeth. "Thank you for your cooperation, Old Mr. Moore."
Claus and Bryan were both stunned, and their eyes stung.
Lizette secretly gave herself a thumbs up when she saw Bryan's disappointed expression.
The room was filled with silence, and the atmosphere gradually became awkward.
Claus quickly tried to smooth things over. "Miss Young must be tired from all the traveling, right? I'll have someone take you to rest first, and we'll get you when it's time for dinner."
A young maid was in charge of guiding Lizette.
Along the way, the maid softly introduced everything. "This is Mr. Tansill's, Mr. Tatro's, Miss Jannie's, and Ms. Rosaria's room. Miss Young, your room is right next to Mr. Tansill and Mr. Tatro's rooms."
Before setting off, Scirwode had mentioned that Margaret had three children in total: her eldest son, Tansill Moore; her second son, Tatro Moore; and her daughter, Jannie Moore. The "Ms. Rosaria" mentioned was probably some kind of relative.
Lizette could not help but hold her forehead.
Her room was surprisingly right next to Tansill and Tatro's.
As the saying goes, "There is advantage from being in a favorable position." There was no doubt that this must have been arranged by Bryan.
As Lizette approached the door, she suddenly stopped in her tracks.
She raised her hand and pointed to the other end of the corridor. "Whose room is that?"
Lizette's surprise was not unreasonable as only that one room in the entire building had a door with a different color.
The maid glanced over, and a hint of fear flashed across her face. "T-That's Mr. Lion's room."
"Mr. Lion?" Lizette asked.
The maid seemed hesitant to explain. She quickly ushered Lizette into the room and uttered, "You must be exhausted. Please have some rest. I'll come get you for dinner."
Lizette was not the overly curious type either, so she did not ask any further questions.
After a sweet nap, she felt much more refreshed and energetic.
The maid came to call Lizette to go downstairs for dinner, and Lizette acknowledged it.
She carefully examined her makeup in the mirror, and only after making sure it was flawless did she go downstairs.
Bryan has his own daily routine and does not usually eat with the young ones. Therefore, it was just Margaret, two men and a woman at the dining table.
Upon seeing Lizette's appearance, Tansill immediately furrowed his brow.
She had dry, yellowing skin and hair like withered grass. It was clear that she was thin, and yet, she wore oversized sportswear. In addition, her posture was hunched over. There was absolutely no grace or poise in her at all.
Even the cleaning lady in the company is more pleasing to the eye than her.
Tatro was even more blunt and expressed his disdain directly. "So you're Lizette? How are you so ugly?"
"Tatro, don't be so rude," Margaret scolded, but her tone was laced with amusement.
Jannie chimed in, saying, "Mom, Tatro is right, she really is ugly! She's so outdated and low-class. I don't want her as my sister-in-law."
Margaret let out a sigh, then put on a smiling face to greet Lizette. "Lizette, don't mind them. They're just teasing you. Come on over and sit down to eat."
Lizette calmly sat down and turned her head to smile at Margaret. "No worries, Granddad taught me not to argue with fools; whatever they say is always right."
"What?"
"You're talking nonsense!"
Tatro and Jannie stood up at the same time.
"Is anything we said wrong? You're ugly."
"Go take a look in the mirror. How dare you go out with that ugly appearance. Aren't you afraid of scaring others?"
Lizette still maintained a faint smile and nodded. "Right, you all make good points."
"You!" they both shouted.
Lizette was obviously calling them fools.
Tatro and Jannie were absolutely furious.
"Enough!" Tansill scolded, "Do you want to embarrass yourself even more? Sit down right now!"
Since Tansill had spoken up, Tatro and Jannie, no matter how unwilling, could only obediently sit down.
Lizette began to eat her meal earnestly.
After a long day of hustling, she was indeed quite hungry.
The philosophy she has always believed in was that only when one was well-fed could they have more energy to think and be creative.
However, the way she earnestly ate her meal took on a different meaning in Jannie's perspective.
She mocked, "Hey, can you not act like a reincarnation of a starved ghost? It's disgusting."
Tatro chuckled. "Jannie, you're in the wrong."
Jannie glared at him
Does he even know whose side he's on?
Tatro continued, "She has been living in the countryside since she was little and grew up eating mediocre food. When did she have the chance to enjoy such delicious dishes? Let her eat. Consider it an act of kindness and virtue."
Lizette chuckled coldly in her heart.
Eating mediocre food?
She had eaten matsutake mushrooms twice the size of the ones on the table, and her annual harvest of black truffles was measured in more than 35 ounces. Not to mention the ordinary and mundane dishes on the table.
Those two were frogs at the bottom of a well.
After she finished her portion, Lizette placed her utensils down. She wiped her mouth clean and revealed a big smile. "Thank you for your hospitality. I'll head upstairs to rest now."
Jannie stomped her foot in frustration when she saw Lizette walk up the stairs as if nothing had happened,She really hated that ugly woman!
