"So," Arell began, breaking the comfortable silence, "when can I get my hands on that X5?"
Geoffrey glanced up, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "Eager, are we?"
Arell grinned. "You know it. That BMW's been calling my name since I laid eyes on it."
"Well," Geoffrey said, setting his tablet aside, "we need to consider the most financially prudent way to acquire it. Have you thought about leasing versus buying outright?"
Arell nodded, his mind already racing with possibilities. "Yeah, I've been crunching some numbers. Leasing might give me more flexibility, but with the modifications I want to make, buying might be the better long-term investment."
Geoffrey raised an eyebrow. "Modifications?"
Arell's eyes lit up. "Oh man, where do I even start? I'm thinking a complete engine overhaul - maybe bump it up to a twin-turbo setup. And the suspension - I could go with a custom air ride system, give it that perfect stance. Oh, and don't even get me started on the interior..."
As Arell launched into a detailed description of his plans, Geoffrey listened intently, occasionally interjecting with questions about cost and practicality.
"The car reward from the system certainly has made you a vehicle enthusiast," Geoffrey commented, impressed. "But have you considered the tax implications? Depending on how we structure the purchase, we might be able to write off some of these modifications as business expenses."
Arell nodded eagerly. "That's what I was thinking too. If we say it's for Infinity business, like transporting products or for photoshoots, we could justify a lot of the upgrades."
"Exactly," Geoffrey agreed. "And speaking of finances, we need to discuss the million from the label. I assume you still want to move forward with the real estate investments?"
Arell straightened up, his expression turning serious. "Definitely. What are you thinking?"
Geoffrey pulled up a series of charts on his tablet. "I've been looking into a mix of residential and commercial properties. There's a promising apartment complex in Atlanta that's undervalued right now. And I've found a few strip malls in up-and-coming neighborhoods that could yield significant returns."
As they delved into the intricacies of cap rates, cash-on-cash returns, and property appreciation, Arell found himself marveling at how easily he could follow along. His business accumen had taken a sharp incline after all this time being around Geoffrey.
"Oh," Geoffrey added, almost as an afterthought, "I should mention that the discussions with Lyrical Lemonade went well. I'm planning to use 250k from the million to acquire a 25% stake in Cole's business."
Arell whistled low. "For 25 percent? That would mean its worth 600k, which it isn't. You really think it's worth it?"
Geoffrey nodded confidently. "Cole's vision aligns perfectly with where the industry is headed. This investment will pay off tenfold, mark my words."
Arell mulled this over for a moment. "You know, we should be more active in the businesses we own. Not just silent partners, but really get in there and help shape things."
"Patience," Geoffrey reminded him with a smile. "Remember, September is when we start ramping things up. For now, let's focus on what's immediately in front of us."
Arell nodded, his mind drifting to more personal matters. "Speaking of which... what do you think about us- I mean, me and India."
Geoffrey's expression softened. "I believe the two of you have shown alot of maturity in the decision to keep the baby."
A mix of emotions washed over Arell - excitement, fear, and a deep sense of responsibility. "Its shocking you know, having a whole child." he breathed. "Like I can't believe that's... that's really happening."
"Well, it certainly is happening," Geoffrey said gently. "Have you given any thought to names?"
Arell let out a nervous laugh. "Man, I haven't even wrapped my head around the whole thing yet. Names? I've got no clue."
They shared a chuckle, the weight of the moment lightening slightly.
"Oh, before I forget," Geoffrey said, pulling up another screen on his tablet, "I've got some updates on your music. Fair Trade is now just one week away from going gold in Canada. And Flex with Rich Homie Quan has climbed to number 34 on the Billboard Hot 100."
Arell's face split into a wide grin. "Decent numbers."
Geoffrey set the tablet aside, his expression turning serious. "Now, about your trip to Memphis tomorrow. Elena's working on booking you a show while you're there. It'll be a good opportunity to build some buzz in the South."
"Bet," Arell said, his mind already racing with possibilities. "Cam, Rashad, and Jamal are coming down with me. Figure we'll stay for about five days, then head out to LA."
Geoffrey nodded, his brow furrowing slightly. "LA isn't exactly safe territory for you, given what went down with The Game. We'll need to take extra precautions. I'll the security team accompany you."
Arell sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Yeah, I was just saying that the other day."
"We'll make it work. Kenny will have to stay back for basketball, of course. What about Malik and Devon?" Geoffrey asked.
Arell shook his head. "I don't trust leaving them alone in Atlanta. Maybe you could leave a couple of security guards with them? And maybe Tariq or Keeve could stay back too?"
Geoffrey made a note on his tablet. "Consider it done. Now, how are the therapy sessions with Dr. Chen going?"
Arell's expression softened. "Great, to be honest. I feel lighter these days. It's like... it's helping."
"That's excellent to hear," Geoffrey said, his voice warm. "Remember, it's a process. Healing from trauma can take years."
Arell nodded, a thoughtful look crossing his face. "Yeah, I get that. No offense, but Dr. Chen... it feels like she's the only person I can really open up to. Like I'm not just venting, but actually having a conversation."
Geoffrey smiled. "No offense taken. That's exactly what a good therapist should be. I'm glad you've found someone you can trust."
There was a moment of comfortable silence before Arell spoke again. "Hey, how's Becalis doing?"
Geoffrey's eyes lit up. "Ah, Becalis. She's going to be on Love & Hip Hop. It's a good opportunity for her to grow and make her own connections. We won't have to worry about her for a while."
Arell nodded, his mind drifting to the other artists. "What about Jarad, Jahseh, and Stokely down in Florida?"
"They're doing well," Geoffrey assured him. "I've got coaches working with them to hone their skills. After your mixtape is done, you can start collaborating with them more directly."
"And Post?" Arell asked.
Geoffrey chuckled. "Why are you asking me? You two have been practically living in the studio. Your chemistry is undeniable."
Arell's brow furrowed. "What about Cochise? We haven't mentioned him in a while."
"Ah, yes," Geoffrey said, scrolling through his tablet. "He's signed, but it'll take some time for him to find his footing. Funny enough, he's also in Florida, just not near where we were. We'll meet up with him next time we're down there."
Arell nodded, then hesitated before asking, "And NBA YoungBoy? How was the background check?"
Geoffrey's expression turned grim. "I don't like what I've seen, Arell. The people around him are concerning, to say the least. But he does have undeniable talent. Louisiana isn't far from Memphis - we should have a proper conversation with him while we're down there."
Arell leaned forward, intrigued. "What exactly did you see in the background check?"
Geoffrey sighed, rubbing his temples. "Multiple arrests, mostly for violent offenses. He's been in and out of juvenile detention. The company he keeps is... troubling, to say the least. Gang affiliations, drug dealing. It's a powder keg waiting to explode."
Arell sat back, processing this information. "Damn. But you still think it's worth talking to him?"
"Talent like that doesn't come along often," Geoffrey said. "If we can get him away from those negative influences, provide him with the right guidance... who knows what he could achieve?"
Arell nodded slowly. "Alright, let's set it up. But we go in with our eyes open, yeah?"
"Absolutely," Geoffrey agreed. "I'll fly down to Memphis myself, but not on the same day as you. We'll approach this carefully." He paused, a knowing smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "Now, about that X5..."
Arell's eyes lit up, a grin spreading across his face. "We doing this today?"
Geoffrey nodded, reaching for his briefcase. "No time like the present. I've got all the necessary paperwork. Let's head to the dealership and see what we can make happen."
As they made their way to dealership Geoffrey outlined his pan. "We're going to buy it outright since that's what you want to do."
Arell nodded eagerly, his mind already racing with possibilities. "And the mods? We good on those?"
"Absolutely," Geoffrey assured him. "We'll classify them as business expenses. Custom interior for maintaining your image, engine upgrades for quick transportation between venues - it all adds up to significant tax benefits for us."
As they drove, Geoffrey delved deeper into the financial aspects. "The base price for a 2015 BMW X5 xDrive50i is around $70,000. With the modifications we're planning, we're looking at potentially doubling that investment. However, by registering it as a company vehicle for Infinity Records, we can depreciate the entire cost over five years. That's a substantial tax write-off each year."
Arell whistled low. "You sure we can swing this?"
Geoffrey nodded confidently. "More than sure. Remember, this is an investment in your brand as much as it is a vehicle. Plus, I've been in talks with the dealership. Given your rising profile and the potential for future business, I believe we can negotiate a substantial discount. I'm aiming for at least 10% off the base price."
They pulled into the BMW dealership, the afternoon sun glinting off rows of sleek, luxurious vehicles. Arell's eyes widened as he took in the sight. A salesman approached, all smiles and firm handshakes.
"Mr. Thompson, Mr. Rose, welcome back," he greeted them warmly. "Here to finalize the purchase of the X5?"
Geoffrey nodded. "Indeed we are. We'd like to see the xDrive50i model in black, please."
As they followed the salesman, Geoffrey murmured to Arell, "Remember, let me handle the negotiations. We're aiming for at least a 10% discount, but I think we can push for more."
The salesman led them to a gleaming black X5, its lines sleek and aggressive. Arell circled the vehicle slowly, taking in every detail. He ran his hand along the smooth surface, peered into the luxurious interior, and whistled appreciatively at the powerful engine under the hood.
"This is it," he said softly. "This is the one."
Geoffrey nodded, then turned to the salesman. "Now, let's discuss numbers."
What followed was a masterclass in negotiation. Geoffrey skillfully leveraged Arell's rising star power, the potential for future business, and his own financial acumen to secure not just a 10% discount, but an impressive 15% off the base price.
"Now," Geoffrey said as they neared the end of the financial discussions, "let's talk about modifications. We have quite an extensive list in mind."
The salesman nodded, though his eyes widened slightly. "Of course. We work with several certified mod shops in the area. What exactly did you have in mind?"
Geoffrey pulled out a detailed list. "We're looking at a complete engine overhaul - upgrading to a twin-turbo setup. We want a custom air ride suspension system for adjustable height and improved handling. The interior needs to be completely customized - think premium leather, state-of-the-art sound system, the works. We also need the windows tinted as dark as legally allowed in Georgia."
The salesman nodded along, making notes. "That's quite a list. Our partners at Elite Auto Works can handle all of that. They're the best in Atlanta."
"Excellent," Geoffrey said. "There's one more thing. We need it bulletproofed."
The salesman paused, his pen hovering over the notepad. "Bulletproofed? That's... not a common request. It will add significant weight to the vehicle and void the warranty."
Geoffrey nodded. "We understand the implications. Please proceed with all modifications as discussed, including the bulletproofing."
As they delved into the paperwork, Geoffrey explained each document to Arell in detail. They discussed liability insurance, extended warranties, even though the bulletproofing would void the main one, and the legal implications of the modifications.
"Now," Geoffrey said, "let's talk about the financial breakdown. With the 15% discount, we're looking at $59,500 for the base vehicle. The modifications, including the bulletproofing, will likely run another $50,000 to $60,000. So we're looking at a total investment of around $120,000."
Arell's eyes widened. "Damn, that's..."
"A significant amount," Geoffrey finished for him. "But remember, with the tax write-offs and depreciation benefits, the effective cost to us over five years will be much lower. We're looking at potential tax savings of $40,000 to $50,000 over that period."
After signing what felt like a mountain of paperwork, they finally had the keys in hand. The X5 would be delivered to Elite Auto Works the next morning to begin its transformation.
At the mod shop, they spent another two hours discussing the details of the customizations. The shop owner's eyes lit up at the extensive list of upgrades, assuring them he could have everything done within three weeks.
