Beryl managed to catch up with Caroline and hopped into the car with her.
Beryl was holding a pair of shoes and socks in her hands. She had brought them out for Caroline.
It was only then that Caroline realised that she had rushed out in such a hurry that she had forgotten to put on some proper footwear.
She hurriedly put on her shoes while thanking Beryl. She might have looked calm on the outside, but she did not notice that her voice was trembling when she spoke.
When Beryl saw her like this, she felt a lump in her throat.
While en route to Cilvie Road, Caroline called Jack on the phone and asked him about what was going on.
Jack, who was on the other end of the line, kept on repeating, "It's my fault! It was all my fault!"
"What exactly happened?!" Caroline asked coldly.
"I invited Eddison out for a drink and he agreed," Jack said and began to blame himself again.
"It's all my fault. I shouldn't have asked him out for a drink!"
