Fortunately, Haward was pretty quick on his feet. Caroline was sure that if he'd been a tad bit slower, Eddison would most likely skewer him. 

After Haward disappeared without a trace, she turned around to look at Eddison and explained, "Making jokes is kind of his second nature. Don't take it seriously."

She and Eddison were married because of their child, and they were bound by a verbal agreement that they would not interfere in each other's affairs. Caroline didn't know why she was explaining things to him.

Maybe it was because his face looked god-awful at the moment.

However, even after she said that, Eddison's unpleasant expression wasn't mitigated at all. 

He cast a deep, sharp gaze at her and strode forward. This time, he took the initiative to keep a distance from her. 

Caroline trotted after him. She reached the entrance of the company and found Eddison's car, which she then got into.
