Bel stood in front of the side door that led to the stables. She had only been standing there for a few seconds when Ben noticed her presence. He jerked his head in her direction as though something had called him. His face broke into a smile, but before it could fully form, it disappeared.
He dropped the bucket of what looked like horse food from where Bel stood and rushed over to her. He stopped in front of her, still staring with the same confusion that had appeared after his smile faded. He glanced behind her, and Bel couldn't help but wonder what he was looking for.
"What are you looking for?" she asked, glancing back herself to see if there was anything she'd missed but she was certain she was alone.
"Well, I didn't expect you to be alone," he replied, still looking back as though the door might open at any moment.
"What are you talking about?" Bel asked.
