Jylan climbed up the ladder first, but he didn't see the loose floorboard sticking out on the last step.
"Be careful-" Sebastian started, but it was too late. He was standing right behind Jylan as well so when the butler tripped, landing on the floor on his back, The ladder wobbled precariously and sent Sebastian crashing down along with the duke, who had closed his eyes as he fell. The woman and little girl were still in the kitchen, so they didn't hear anything.

The butler now stood up and flopped into the nearest dingy mattress, and Sebastian was left staring at him for the next hour until the dim light of dusk faded into a dull twinkling of stars.
