I'm finally ready for the exploration.
I didn't bother setting up camp outside. If it gets late, I'll make my way out of the cave and call it a day.
The cave was dark even from the outside, so I brought a torch with me that I made using a branch and a piece of sailcloth wrapped on one end, which was then dipped in the giant boar's rendered fat. I also had some food and water stored in bottles I found on the shore.
After carefully walking inside the cave for a few minutes, I arrived at a cavern. I looked around and noticed signs of burning and different claw marks on the wall.
There were marks with four slashes and others that were single slashes, at least 2 meters long.
Did a swordsman and some unknown beast fight here not too long ago? And what were those burn marks?
I saw two large passageways going in opposite directions.
"Hmm.. How should I go about this?"
"I got an idea."
"Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. My mother told me to pick the very best one and you - are - it!"
"Guess I'm going right."
I steeled my nerves and kept my guard up as I walked through the passageway.
After a few minutes of walking, I arrived at another cavern. I took a few more steps to check the area when I heard a crack.
The sound echoed all over the cavern, but nothing happened. I think I stepped on something. I brought my torch to the floor to check, and it was the skull of some animal.
I froze. I just noticed that the whole floor was littered with bones.
All of a sudden, 8 red orbs shone in the distance and seemed to be getting closer and closer. I couldn't make out anything clearly, so I stared at it to take a better look.
My soul left my body when I realized what I was looking at - another freak of this world.
A giant spider!
This one is way larger and more intimidating than the snake I fought before.
As soon as I recognized what it was, it swiftly charged at me. I wanted to run, but my legs gave out. All I could do was gaze at it as I broke out in a cold sweat.
As it drew near, it felt like everything was in slow motion. Is this what a deer feels like being caught in headlights?
This is not how I want to die.
"Move!"
I heard a loud voice inside my head, and my body instinctively rolled to the side to avoid getting trampled by that monster.
With just a word, I regained my composure and started to think about how I could get out of this mess.
It's daunting to face such a huge monster armed only with a torch and a knife, but I have to try.
The spider just stood there, staring at me as if it were daring me to attack.
Summoning every ounce of courage, I launched myself at it, aiming for its head. But before I could unleash a mana burst, it spat a ball of web in my direction. I narrowly dodged it, but then it struck with one of its front legs.
I was sent flying through the air, landing with a painful thud. The impact was brutal, and I think my left arm is broken.
The pain is unbearable. I coughed up blood, struggling to get back on my feet.
I overestimated my abilities. I thought my gift alone would be enough to face any challenge.
This creature is not just a mindless beast; it's intelligent, cunning even.
With no other choice, I turned and fled, hoping to escape with my life.
I sheathed my knife, grabbed the torch, and ran as fast as I could, using the terrain to my advantage, dodging its attacks and seeking brief moments of respite before darting away again.
Finally, I reached the entrance of the cavern, relief flooding through me. But my relief was short-lived.
With chilling precision, the spider spat its web, entangling the stalactites above. They crashed down, sealing off my escape route.
I'm trapped.
I could sense the spider's amusement as it watched me, injured and helpless, with my only escape route now blocked.
It was toying with me, reveling in my predicament.
But I couldn't afford to stay idle. I had to keep moving.
Gritting my teeth against the pain, I made a split-second decision and dashed down the left passageway, an unexplored route.
It was a risky gamble. What if another spider was waiting for me at the end?
I ran with all the strength I had left, my chest burning with exertion. I pushed aside thoughts of what might await me, focusing only on putting one foot in front of the other.
Just as despair threatened to consume me, I caught sight of a small hole, just wide enough for me to pass through.
With a burst of adrenaline, I lunged for it, desperate to escape the pursuing monster.
I stumbled as I entered the passage, collapsing to the ground in exhaustion. I dared to glance back and saw the spider halt its pursuit at the entrance.
Relief washed over me. I couldn't believe I had survived such a harrowing ordeal.
But then the pain in my left side flared up, searing through me with agonizing intensity. It was the last thing I felt before darkness enveloped me, and I succumbed to unconsciousness.
"Egil."
"Wake up."
"Egil, wake up."
"Egil!"
I woke up startled and straightened my back.
I remembered her calling out to me. Was it a dream? How long had I been unconscious?
The pain was gone; my left arm had fully recovered. So it was true, aside from Mana Arts and Heavenly Blueprint, I possessed Super Regeneration, or whatever the correct term for it is in this world.
I shivered from the cold, realizing the torch had died out long ago.
Famished and with dried-out lips, I reached for my bag and discovered that all the bottles had broken. Fortunately, the smoked meat I had prepared was still edible.
I devoured it until nothing remained. Using my Heavenly Blueprint skill, I created a large bottle from the broken pieces and collected dripping water from the cave's ceiling to address my water issue.
It might have been a risky move back on Earth, but there shouldn't be any contaminants in the cave water here.
I knew that glass could be recycled and turned into new products, but usually, it had to be crushed down and go through a process before becoming a finished product.
What a convenient skill this Heavenly Blueprint is.
It definitely isn't a good idea to return to the first cavern. I decided to take a chance and continue on this path.
I gathered my things and stood up, ready to move forward.
As I walked, I sensed something different. Then it hit me.
I could see in the dark?!
Hi Readers. I finally reached the 5th chapter of my first ever WN! I'm not expecting much since I'm still a newbie but I would appreciate it if you could leave a comment or something just to let me know you've reached this chapter. It's gonna give me a lot of motivation to continue and hopefully improve.
