Chapter Text

Toru stared at the paper in front of her. She and her partners were in the teachers' break room with Toshinori. The man had congratulated them on getting their licenses, then he became fidgety before sliding a paper across to Toru and saying. "I'm against this, but well, he went through Nezu, and Nezu told me to give it to you, and I do work for Nezu, so I have to even though I don't want to."

Toru hummed as she looked at the application for a work-study at Nighteye Agency. "Why are you against this? I know you guys had a falling out, but... well, what happened?"

Toshi sighed and rubbed the back of his head. "When... When I got injured in my fight against All for One, Mirai used his quirk on me without permission and saw something... disturbing. He wanted me to retire then and there, but I disagreed. We went our separate ways, and then he contacted me after I had picked you for my successor, saying he had someone who would be perfect for One for All."

"And you told him about Toru," Mina said as their teacher nodded.

"He was not happy about my choice," Toshi said simply.

Izuku crossed his arms. "What did he have to say about Toru being picked?"

Toshi swallowed and looked around nervously. "Nothing really. He just felt his pick was the better option."

Izuku's eyes narrowed, and Toshi refused to look at him as he said. "Sir, what did he say?"

"He... Well, Mirai is a good man, for the most part, he's just... he's scared, you know-"

"Sir," Mina said as she crossed her arms. "What did Sir Nighteye have to say about our girlfriend getting One for All?"

Toshi looked between the two students then at Toru, but whatever expression she had was lost to him since she was invisible. Toshi sighed. "He wondered why I would give the symbol of peace's power to a high school girl whose only power was to go unnoticed."

Izuku grabbed the application. "Can I take this? I wanna go to his agency."

Toru snatched the paper and huffed. "No, you can't... I'll do it."

"Toru, you don't have to. It sounds like he's just gonna be an ass." Mina said as she looked at her invisible girlfriend.

"No, it's fine," Toru said. "I'll go there, and I'll prove to him that he's wrong, and besides, someone needs to tell him he has no business interfering with One for All business." Toru placed the paper down and signed it. "Thank you for bringing this to me, sir."

Toshi nodded. "No problem. Now you all best run along; Aizawa will be informing your class about the upcoming curriculum."

The three students nodded and left their mentor to sip his tea and pray that everything went ok with the work studies.

Nemuri sighed as she leaned on Hirooki. The two were sitting on the couch in Nemuri's apartment. "I can't believe Izuku has his license."

"Did you think he would fail?" Hirooki asked as they adjusted and pulled Nemuri closer.

"No, but it's just crazy that the little kid I adopted can go out and legally perform heroics."

Hirooki chuckled and kissed the top of her head. "It is nice that he can finally do it legally. Now we don't have to worry so much about him."

"You two act like I get in trouble every week," Izuku said from the kitchen. "Also, why is it that during some of my very limited free time, I come home and am made to cook?"

Nemuri smiled. "Because you're the best cook, Izuku."

Izuku groaned a bit but kept cooking. After a moment, Nemuri asked. "Do you know who you're gonna do your work-study with?"

Izuku poked his head out of the kitchen and hummed. "Well, you know. Shade contacted me saying she'd take me on."

Hirooki tried not to laugh as Nemuri pouted, and Izuku grinned. "I don't have any other offers..."

Nemuri huffed. "Hypno, if you'd like, I wouldn't mind having you on as an intern."

"Thank you, Midnight. I hope I can learn a lot from you." Izuku said as he started to bring dinner out to the table.

Pony pouted as she sat with her fellow classmates in the common room. "I can't believe how hard it is to find a work-study."

Kyoka nodded and looked over to Mina. "Any luck on your end?"

Mina smirked and pounded a fist against her chest. "Xeno King sent me an offer. I'm gonna go intern with him."

"Lucky." the two girls said in tandem as Mina laughed.

Everyone looked over as Aizawa entered and looked around. "Asui, Uraraka, third-year Nejire Hado wants to talk to you about work studies."

The two girls perked up and looked surprised as their homeroom teacher continued. "Yaoyorozu, Tamaki Amajiki wants to talk to you as well."

With his announcement done, Aizawa simply turned and left without another word. Ochako stood immediately and said. "We should go see them right away. Let's go Tsu, Yaomomo."

The two other girls nodded and headed for the door, intent on speaking to the third years. Denki groaned. "Lucky. I don't think I'm gonna find a work-study."

"Most of us probably won't, at least not this time around. By our second year, we should be able to." Hanta said as he booted up one of the game consoles. "In the meantime, let's drown our sorrows in a fighting contest."

Denki grabbed the control as a few others came over to join in. "Sounds good to me."

Aizawa stood before Toru, Mina, Izuku, Ochako, Tsu, Momo, and Fumikage. "You seven are the only ones who got work studies. Don't embarrass UA; learn as much as you can and come back safe."

Izuku ignored how his homeroom teacher stared pointedly at him. "Now get going; your heroes are at their agencies waiting for you."

As the group walked, Izuku fell into step with Fumikage. "You got a work-study?"

Fumikage nodded. "Yes. Though I will be spending time with Hawks' sidekicks instead of him. He said he was going to be handling a big case that was too dangerous for a first-year."

Izuku nodded and kept his knowledge of what Hawks was doing to himself. "Hopefully, he can wrap up quick enough and train you himself."

Fumikage nodded in agreement as Mina said. "Hey Yaomomo, who was the guy who wanted to see you?"

"Amajiki is a third-year and a member of the big three, apparently."

"Oh, same with Hado," Ochako commented.

Momo nodded. "Yes. He was... shy, but he told me that his mentor Fat Gum was interested in teaching me."

"Makes sense since you two use the same fuel for your quirks. Though in really different ways." Izuku commented.

Momo hummed. "Yes, I never would have thought to work with him, but hopefully, I'll learn a lot."

Mina and Toru smiled a bit as Momo and Izuku fell into a conversation about Fat Gum's work and how he utilizes his quirk. It seemed like things were settling down for these two. Eventually, the conversation turned to Tsu and Ochako, who were super excited to get to work with Ryukyu.

Eventually, the students had to part ways at the train station, and Toru found herself getting a kiss on each cheek as her partners told her to kick Nighteyes ass. Toru groaned. "I'm not gonna fight him."

"We know. Just don't take anything lying down and learn as much as you can." Mina said.

Toru nodded and said her final goodbye to everyone before heading to her train while everyone else said their goodbyes and went their separate ways.

Nighteye sighed as he held his phone up to his ear. "I'm afraid I cannot help you, Hawks. I have an ongoing investigation, and besides, my agency is more what you need when you're finding the villains, not when you're about to hit them."

Nighteye nodded and hummed. "No, there isn't anyone in particular that I'm hoping will be available. I don't even know when or if I'll be able to perform a raid anytime soon. Please ask anyone and everyone you can. The League of Villains is dangerous and needs to be taken down."

Bubble girl entered with a report in her hands, and Nighteye motioned for her to step up. "I need to go. Yes. I apologize for not being of more help. Best of luck to you."

Once he hung up, Nighteye looked at his sidekick. "Your report Bubble Girl."

"I'm real surprised that Sir picked you. Ah, no offense meant it's just you've got such a good hold on your quirk, not like I did back when he picked me up." Mirio said as he entered the Nighteye Agency with Toru.

The invisible girl hummed. "I was surprised as well, and I'm very interested in what he could teach me."

Mirio chuckled. "Well, as long as you make him laugh, I'm sure things will go off without a hitch, and you'll be advancing by leaps and bounds."

Toru grinned. She had no intention of making him laugh. "I'll try my best."

The two approached the door, and Mirio opened it without any preamble and proudly announced. "Yo, I brought the first year!"

The two students stopped as they saw Bubble Girl strapped to some machine, laughing and crying hysterically. Toru pointed back the way they came and said. "You said HR was down that way, right?"

She cursed internally as Nighteye snorted a bit and turned the machine off. "Mirio, please help Bubble Girl out. I would like to speak with Prism."

Toru watched her upper classmate unstrap the woman and help her walk. Idly Toru wondered what kinda tape or glue Bubble Girl used to keep her boobs from falling out of her top.

Once they were alone, Nighteye took a seat behind his desk and said. "So you're Toru Hagakure. The one that Toshinori picked."

"Yeah, I am," Toru said as she stood between the two guest seats and handed him the work-study offer he had sent her. "You wanted me to intern with you."

"No," NIghteye said as he leaned back. "I don't think you'll be able to carry on Toshinori's mission as a symbol of peace. Everything I've seen shows me you don't have what it takes."

Nighteye placed his hand on the paper. "I sent you this offer because I want you to understand why I know you're not fit to replace Toshi and why Mirio is a better choice. Though in the spirit of fairness, I suppose I'll let you try and prove yourself. If you can take this seal-"

Nighteye's eyes slammed shut suddenly as Toru blinded him with a flash of light. She snatched the seal from his hand and waited for the pro to recover.

As Nighteye blinked the spots away, Toru said. "Yeah. Maybe I can't be like Toshi running around killing myself and smiling non-stop as I punch everyone who society labeled a villain, but that's not what I'm going for."

Toru grit her teeth as she tightened her grip on the seal. "I'm going to be the best hero I can be, and I am gonna lean on others unlike him, and I'm gonna make sure others live up to the standards that heroes should live up to."

Nighteye watched as she stamped the paper. "I'm gonna save everyone I can, even the villains."

Toru dropped the stamp and grabbed her case before saying. "One last thing before I go find my room, Sir. One for All isn't yours. You have no business deciding who gets it."

Toru turned on her heel and marched out of the room to find Mirio. Once she was gone, Nighteye sat in silence for a moment before looking at the paper. "She has plenty of spirit at least."

Izuku kicked his shoes off as he entered his mom's apartment and found her sitting on the couch in her costume. "Didn't you use to have an agency that you shared with Present Mic and a couple others?"

Midnight shrugged. "Yeah, but the others moved to different cities and Present Mic, and I can just use UA, so we sold the building, so I hope you don't mind coming here to do paperwork."

Izuku shook his head and put his case on the table. "I don't mind, so what are we gonna do?"

Midnight stood up. "Get suited up, Hypno; we're gonna go on patrol."

Izuku grinned and headed for his room. "Will do, ma'am."

_____________________________________________________________________

Mirio laughed as he walked with Toru. "I don't know what you said to Sir, but I haven't seen him like that in a while. Anyways patrolling is probably one of the easier parts of the job, but it's also one of the most important."

The older student snapped his fingers. "Oh, by the way, what's your hero name again?"

Toru straightened up and put her hands on her hips. "Prism."

"Oh, because of the whole light and laser thing. I like it. My name is Lemillion." Mirio said as he poked his thumb against his chest.

"Why Lemillion?"

Mirio grinned, and Toru felt like it looked pretty similar to how All Might smiled. "Because I want to save at least a million people. I may not be able to save everyone, but I'll shoot for as many as I can."

Toru chuckled. "That's a good reason."

Mirio grinned, and they continued walking, and Mirio asked Toru about how her costume worked. As they passed an alleyway, Toru felt something bump into her leg and looked down to see a small girl with white hair wearing a tattered dress and shaking as she looked up at Mirio and her.

Toru knelt down as the girl flinched. "Are you ok?"

Notes:

I remembered the thing I wanted to say last chapter. I don't much care for the current summary of Hypno but Idk what to change it to.
