Kapitel 47: Overconfidence

The three of us were staring at the ninja who had just arrived on the field. He was looking at us with contempt while my two teammates were looking back with confidence written all over their faces.

"You really think that you can take all three of us on? I feel like you're a little too sure of yourself," Benimaru said toward the chunin as Kiyoko started to circulate her chakra.

"Kiyoko, be careful, he—" She didn't let me get a word out before she sped towards the ninja to deliver the first strike.

"You may be fast to the lowly bandits you just took out, but to me, I can see your every move!" He shouted back as a fist flew towards the charging Kiyoko.

CRACK

We watched as the unconscious Kiyoko came flying back towards us. The confidence on Benimaru's face immediately disappeared, replaced by concern about the ninja standing in front of us.

"Grab Kiyoko, I'll deal with this guy," Benimaru said as he started making hand seals.

'Did you guys just completely forget Hanzo's training? What happened to fighting as a team?' I thought to myself as I grabbed Kiyoko and sat her by a tree so she could recover.

'Fire Release: Dragon Fire Jutsu'

A blazing fire dragon came out of Benimaru's mouth, focusing on the spot where the chunin was standing and sneering at Benimaru.

"Too slow, brat; is this really what the Whirlpool Village is letting onto the field these days?" In truth, the chunin was a bit shocked seeing such a jutsu come from what appeared to be a mere genin, but psychological games were a part of battle as well.

The chunin repositioned himself and started to do hand seals with the last one he landed on being monkey.

'Water Release: Jet Stream'

A very thin stream of water came flying towards Benimaru, cutting the ground and trees as he expertly evaded the stream.

'He's not going to be able to beat him one on one. I got to jump in here.'

'Fire Release: Hiding in the Ash Jutsu'

I nodded at Benimaru's choice of jutsu. 'If you can't beat someone by strength alone, your best bet is to obscure their vision and hope that they don't have a really good sensor. Unfortunately for this guy, I am here.'

Jumping into the smoke with Benimaru, we both went on the attack.

'Water Release: Riptide Rush'

I spit out a bunch of water out of my mouth trying to knock the ninja off his feet, or at least disorient him for enough time to let Benimaru capitalize, but the chunin must've recognized this as he jumped up high in the air as the water rushed past him.

'What goes up must come down.' I smirked as I landed on the last seal of the jutsu I was going to use.

'Water Release: Water Whip'

As soon as he landed, tendrils of water wrapped around his arms and legs, keeping him in place just long enough for Benimaru's Great Fireball Jutsu to hit him and create steam throughout the battlefield.

Hopping back and regrouping with each other, we watched as the ash cleared and the chunin stood there with burns all over his body.

"You two have great teamwork; I'll give you that, but playtime is over." The chunin flew through hand seals and landed on the dragon seal last.

'Fire Release: Smoke Screen Gale'

A spiraling vortex of flames came flying out of his mouth and headed straight towards us. We both looked at each other and nodded as we flickered away from the fire.

"Shiran, my reserves are getting low, we need to end this soon or I'll be unable to continue," Benimaru grit his teeth as he looked over at the unconscious Kiyoko lying by the tree.

"I'll cover you then, if we engage him on two fronts then we should be able to win this," I said to him as I started to go through hand seals again.

'Storm Release: Lightning Senbon'

Small storm clouds started to gather around the chunin on his back, left, right, and top directions. This effectively boxed him in so he couldn't maneuver as well as he regularly could without getting severely electrocuted. As the clouds gathered, they started to crackle with lightning and turned an ominous black color.

"Storm release? This could get tricky," the chunin muttered as he engaged Benimaru in taijutsu.

zip zip zip zip zip

The lightning needles came flying out of the clouds while most missed because he dodged, there were a couple that stuck him in his arms and started to numb the areas around it. The momentary distraction of senbon was enough for Benimaru to land a quick 3 hit combo, pushing him back a substantial amount, while getting a little confidence back.

"Not gonna fight back? Are you scared because of a couple geni—" Benimaru didn't get to finish his taunt as the chunin let a punch go that sounded like it fractured his skull.

'He's really gotta stop doing that,' I thought to myself as I stood facing the chunin with a blank look as he looked at me with a crazed look in his eyes. The clouds dissipating in the background as I was getting a little low on chakra.

"Two down, one more to go. You ready for your turn, you freak?" He said while charging at me.

Realizing that he wanted a taijutsu match, my kanjogan started to spin wildly as I sped up a substantial amount, exceeding the speed he was coming towards me with.

"If you want to die by the hands of a genin, then I will fulfill your wish," I said while speeding towards him.

His fists came flying towards me as I ducked and dodged between them with practiced confidence.

He threw a punch at me from a diagonal direction which caught me off guard. Realizing I couldn't dodge in time, I raised my arm to block it.

WHAM

'Holy shit, he punches hard,' I thought as I felt like my arm was breaking in half. At this point, I was running pretty low on chakra, but I could tell that he was also low on chakra. What I also noticed though was that he was getting fatigued and tired, I could see it in the sloppiness of his punches.

Deciding to push my chakra a little more, I made hand seals once again.

'Storm Release: Thunderclap Arrow'

A bow made of condensed storm chakra appeared in my hand as well as four arrows. Putting three arrows on the string of the arrow, I aimed all three in a straight line while having my fourth arrow ready to go.

Zip zip zip

All three arrows flew with the speed of lightning towards the guy and caused him to jump sluggishly off the ground. What he didn't expect was for the fourth arrow to fly from the bow at that time as well, resulting in a pierced neck and carotid artery.

Going limp in the air, he dropped to the ground with a thud and started to go unconscious.

I looked at the sight and took a knee, gasping for breath. "Whew, that jutsu took more out of me than I expected. Maybe I should've only done two to force him to jump in the air instead of three, now I'm very close to chakra depletion here," I said aloud, only to hear a hoarse laugh coming from the person laid in front of me, knocking on death's door.

"If I'm going, someone is coming with me!" I looked up to see a water clone rushing towards both of my unconscious teammates.

Hanzo, overlooking the battlefield, smiled at the tactics he saw used during the fight while keeping an eye on the ninja with a lightning arrow through the right side of his neck.

'Oh yeah, when these guys get a little more experience they are going to be a terrifying group of ninjas,' he thought as the hoarse laughter brought him out of his reverie.

Looking at the delirious ninja on the ground laughing, he saw a water clone come rushing out of the treeline towards the defenseless Kiyoko and Benimaru.

"If I'm going, someone is coming with me!" Hanzo's eyes narrowed as he reached for his sword, ready to rush forward and protect his overconfident brats.

Hanzo started to use the flicker when all of a sudden, a weird chakra burst out and froze him in place. As he looked at Shiran who was watching the whole thing, his eyes widened. 'Is that the second stage Aoi was telling me to look out for?'

Looking at Shiran's eyes, he saw 2 O's in place of the X's that usually took up his eyes when the kanjogan was active.

"Storm Release: Cyclone Shield!" Shiran shouted out as swirling black clouds converged on the area of his two teammates.

'No, this can't happen again. I won't allow another of my precious people to die in front of me,' I thought as I felt a sudden rush of chakra to my eyes and information to my brain. I made my last hand seals for this battle and let out a shout.

"Storm Release: Cyclone Shield!"

Dark clouds once again converged forming a barrier of electrified clouds that lit up with the lightning coursing through it. As the clone got close to it, the lightning within the clouds let out a strike that immediately turned the clone back into a puddle of water.

I smirked as I threw a kunai at the ninja's head to take him out for good, and passed out as I heard the sound of the kunai piercing skin and bone.

In case you guys haven't guessed Shiran unlocks the different stages of his dojutsu through strong emotions. The first was for revenge and the second was for protection. He now has 1 more stage to go and it will be fully evolved.)
