The burial was conducted, and the days of mourning were observed and concluded, and soon, everyone started to live their lives as they used to. Throughout these days, Reaper never appeared before Nyx, and she did not call out to him either.
It was as if they had agreed that she would fulfil her mother's wishes and stay married to Skye Morgan even if she did not want to. While he would stay away from her only coming to her when she needed him. He wouldn't go far away or for as long as he did before.
Today, Nyx woke up feeling lazy. She didn't have the strength to stand up and face the world outside, but she knew she had to leave her room and do just that. There was much that she needed to confront, and Skye and Beth were two of those.
Good morning, Mrs Morgan," a servant said as soon as Nyx walked out of the room. She held in her hands a tray with her breakfast in it. "I am sorry I did not know you would be coming down so early, so I…" Nyx raised a hand to stop her.
"That is alright. Lead the way," she said, and the maid nodded her head and led the way.
All the servants in the mansion knew the couple never shared a bed since their wedding, and the death of Martha seemed to have further driven a bigger wedge between them. It was weird for a newly wed couple to be like that and it worried some of them like the old servant here now while others just thoight their master didn't like the woman and talked behind her back not knowing that it was the other way around.
"Thank you, Selene," Nyx said as she took her seat at the table. Just as always, she was expecting to eat alone, but soon after she was seated, Skye walked in to have his breakfast. He was dressed in a business suit, so Nyx knew he was getting ready for work.
"Good morning, Wife," he greeted. She looked at him, he grinned and called for the servants to bring his meal. "You are my wife, aren't you?" He asked.
"Good morning," was all that she said, but he didn't mind. Having his greetings returned was more than enough in their current state.
"Thanks," he said to Selene, who had led other servants to serve his meal. "Have everyone leave this area. No one is allowed to come near here unless called to do so," Skye instructed.
"Yes, Master Morgan," Selene replied and led everyone away.
"Do you have a moment?" He asked, looking at Nyx. She looked up from her food and nodded her head. "Alright," he picked up his folk and knife as he started eating too. This was probably the best time to talk, although it might end with one or both if them losing their appetite. It would be less awkward between them.
"First, I want to apologize to you. I agree that our marriage was rushed beyond all reasonable doubts, and I also didn't court you as I should have. I also did not tell you my intentions for marrying you," He stopped to see if she would react, but she looked blankly at him and he sighed inwardly. What was he expecting when he had just listed out the reasons why she shouldn't even be here with him? "Nyx, just as I have said before, I harbour no ill intentions towards you. And yes, at some point, I did develop feelings for you, and they still exist, but that is not why I married you."
"You still haven't said why, Skye. What I want to know is why? Why would you and why were you interested? You have said it yourself now, you didn't marry me because if the feelings you have for me, then why? What is your reason, Skye?" Nyx asked, and he looked down, stirring the bowl of soup even though it was not required.
"I want us to learn to live together, to coexist even if we would never get along. I am not asking that my feelings be returned to me but please, I beg you not to resent me. I want to tell you the truth. I wanted to wait for you and court you rightly, but I was forced to do what I did. Please, Nyx, try to understand me," Skye pleaded, but this only brought an even bigger frown in the face of Nyx.
"How can I understand you when I do not know you or your motives. Do you want us to coexist? I have been doing that these past few days, and it's now that you think we should start? And if you do not want me to resent you for keeping secrets like these, then let them out," Nyx almost yelled at him, but he still maintained his cool. She lost her appetite and stood up, but he was quick o hold her hand.
"Wait, I will tell you," He said. She looked at him and their eyes met, he was pleading with her and she could not ignore him and go just like that. Wordlessly, she sat back down, and he let go of her hand. "Thank you," minutes past after she was seated again but he still found it difficult to speak.
"Skye," Nyx called and he shut his and let out heavy breath.
"This is what happened," he began and braced himself for the consequences that would follow. "A man, no, a being, approached me. He was the on who asked me to marry you as soon as possible."
Nyx frowned at his choice of words and the fact that all it took were a few words from a stranger to have do something that he did not want to do.
"Do not get me wrong, I refused but then he did something to me," the more he spoke he could feel the sharp piercing ppain in his chest grow. He always felt this way when ever he wanted to talk about this to anyone."He…" Skye started to cough until she was spitting blood.
