In the Hokage's office, Hiruzen looked over some reports, his hand on his forehead as he pondered. He glanced at the report and then at Kakashi, who stood before him, letting out a long sigh before taking a puff from his large pipe.
Problems. Problems were what Kakashi had on his hands. His years as a ninja were catching up to him, and now the trio of promising genins were put at risk on their first missions. But it wasn't just him; many of Konoha's renowned jounins were facing the same issues.
'I don't believe it's one of the other villages inciting the rogue ninja to hunt down those with high bounties from Konoha. It seems to be the work of an organization separate from all of this. '
Looking at Kakashi, he then spoke with a more serious tone. "Kakashi, it seems that you're currently one of the primary targets of this group. I'll have to take an unprecedented action. But I imagine it's for the best for everyone for now."
At Ryo's house, in the late afternoon of the next day:
The young boy sat on the sofa, cleaning his katana and other equipment. On the floor beside him, in a leather bag, were some bloodied clothes. Ryo looked at them and then resumed cleaning the blood from the blade.
'I had to kill someone in the end. It's not like I wasn't prepared. If I hadn't killed him, Denji and Haruka might have died. '
He didn't regret it. In the end, he would have to kill many more. But it was both funny and sad in his mind—Ryo had started learning healing jutsu to save lives, yet to save lives, he also had to take lives.
Looking up, he took a deep breath. Now that the katana was clean of blood, he could put it back in its box. The box sat on the edge of the table, and as Ryo moved to place the katana back in, someone knocked on his door, causing him to quickly turn towards it, inadvertently knocking over the box.
"Damn it... Just a moment," he said, starting to gather the box. But he noticed something strange about it. When he lifted it off the ground, the impact had opened a small compartment, and inside was a small scroll. 'What?.' Once he placed the box back on the table, he retrieved the small scroll and put it in his pocket, closing the opened compartment.
Then he opened the door to find a ninja, a young adult. "Hello, Ryo. The Hokage is calling Team 13 to his office in an hour." Ryo nodded, thanking the ninja, and then closed the door. As it shut, he locked the door and closed the windows, putting his hand in his pocket to retrieve the small scroll.
Written on it was a word: Kenjutsu Ittoryu. "A scroll on swordsmanship. That old man Kentou must have left this here." Once again, he looked at where the scroll had come from inside the box. It was from inside, slightly to the side of where the katana was placed. There was no explicit mark, but if one paid attention, it was noticeable.
"Perhaps he intended to explain this to me when he returned, but he didn't get the chance." He then sat back on the sofa and opened the scroll, reading some of its contents. There was a sword technique, something that seemed to be a jutsu but was performed with the katana and the body together as one.
Ryo knew he couldn't learn it now, as he had to leave soon for the Hokage's office. After returning the scroll to its place, he got ready, donning his ninja attire as usual. After arranging his equipment and, of course, the katana on his back, he left his house, flickering towards the Hokage's building.
After a few minutes, he arrived at the location, walking inside. As he entered the Hokage's office, he could see Haruka there, but Denji wasn't present yet as he hadn't been discharged from the hospital. Kakashi was also there.
"Now that Ryo has arrived, I can begin discussing what this is about," the Hokage said. "The situation you faced on your mission and in some parts of it, which I suspect, occurred due to a factor that we overlooked."
He then picked up a book containing an image, Kakashi's picture on the open page. "Kakashi has been in Kirigakure's Bingo Book for some time now. Lately, there have been attacks focused on some ninjas whose names are registered in the Bingo Books of other villages."
He had a serious tone as he spoke, then closed the book and took a deep breath. "That's why I'll be making a decision now until things settle down. I'll be removing Kakashi from Team 13 as the sensei and assigning another to you."
Ryo didn't expect this; he was surprised. He didn't recall this happening in the anime. But there was also the factor that he had already subtly changed some things in this world, such as Kentou leaving the ninja reserve and returning to active duty to train him, Kakashi becoming a team leader a few years earlier than in the original timeline, and a few other things. Still, he didn't expect Hiruzen to replace Kakashi with someone else.
"This is to protect your team and Kakashi as well. He will spend some time doing other tasks for me, and as for you, Ryo, Haruka, and the young Denji in the hospital, you'll be able to develop at your own pace, and such an incident won't happen again, even though you handled the situation very well. We can't leave anything to chance."
He finished speaking as he looked at them. Kakashi didn't say anything, probably because he already knew what was going to happen. But Haruka spoke up. "But Hokage-sama, we managed to deal with the ninja. We don't have to change the sensei because of that." Ryo looked at her; she had been spending too much time with Denji. He expected Denji to react more aggressively, perhaps, but not her.
"I can't let promising futures like yours be wasted so soon, Haruka. Yes, you handled the situation well, but what about next time when a stronger rogue ninja appears? What if you weren't so close to the village, or if Kakashi wasn't around? There were many factors in the incident that could have led to all of you dying."
Haruka didn't say anything more as she looked down. Ryo looked at Kakashi as he spoke to him. "It was a short period, but thank you, Kakashi-sensei." And then Sarutobi spoke. "You may go. And inform Denji about this for me, thank you." The two then left the Hokage's office. Haruka was a little sad about it, while Ryo was calmer. In the end, Kakashi will train Naruto's team later on.
"Let's go talk to Denji. He'll be crazy, but since he can't move properly yet, it's the best time to tell him this," Ryo said, giving a slight smile. Haruka laughed along, already imagining the chaos Denji would cause
