===========================

The situation took a sudden turn the next day during lunch break. After finishing their meals, each student was waiting in their classroom for the afternoon classes to begin when it happened.

"Hey, some first-years are coming over here!"

Our classmate Hondo exclaimed, surprised. Normally, lower-grade students wouldn't come to the upper-grade floor, so it was quite unusual. Honda went to check things out, followed by Horikita and Sudo. Kiyotaka seemed to tag along, and I ended up going because he invited me.

The first thing that caught our eyes was a large, blond-haired guy. What stood out about him was that he was about the same height as Sudo and confidently walked through the center of the second-year floor. Strangely, the second-year students passing by made way for him.

Behind him was a blond-haired female student. I wondered why there were so many blondes, but I kept that thought to myself. When our eyes met, Kiyotaka was the first to look away, and shortly after, the gaze shifted to Horikita.

"What's this girl's name?"

"Just a moment... got it."

The girl who was operating her phone soon showed us the screen.

"2nd year, Class D, Suzune Horikita. Academic performance is A."

The combination of a polite girl and a rough guy made for an intriguing pair. Then, she glanced at Sudo, and the girl showed the big guy Sudo's OAA.

"Sudo Ken. Hah."

After looking at his OAA, she smirked disdainfully.

"I'm Nanase, from Class 1-D. And I'm also a D-class student."

"His name's Hosen."

Introducing ourselves by last names, for clarification, the guy's name was Kazuomi Hosen , and the girl's name was Tsubasa Nanase. Hosen also directed his gaze at me, and I met his eyes in return.

"Jin Horagasaki. Academic performance is B."

Hosen kept staring into my eyes, and I did the same.

"It's quite bold of you for new students to make such decisive moves. I'll give you credit for that courage alone."

"What? What's with giving credit for courage? You're pretty high and mighty."

"High and mighty? Not at all. Don't get cocky, you first-year brat."

Sudo intervened, pushing back against Hosen, who had challenged Horikita. Despite being almost the same height as Sudo, around 185 or 6 centimeters, he looked smaller due to his bulkier physique.

"Academic performance E+, just as dumb as you look."

"What did you say!?"

"Well, that's convenient. Since only D-class students seem to be overflowing here, it works out nicely for us."

"What do you mean by that?"

"You D-class students are a group of failures. Without us picking you, you won't even be able to form proper pairs. So we'll lend a hand to you idiots and incompetents. Got it?"

"So you want to partner with us? Quite condescending, isn't it?"

"What? We came all the way here for you. Get down on your knees and beg us to team up with you."

While Sudo restrained his frustration, Horikita reinforced his words, not letting the difference in their physical sizes deter him.

"You seem to have some misunderstanding. You're also in the D class. We're no different, equals."

"You don't get it. If we feel like it, we can easily lower your scores. Understand? We can manipulate the situation to make you fail."

"What? Are you kidding me? If we slack off on the test, we'll get expelled!"

"True, failing to try on tests leads to expulsion. But there's a separate penalty for not finding a partner by the deadline. That's only troublesome for you second-years, right?"

"Yes, it's mentioned that if the private points aren't transferred within three months, it's not a fatal problem."

"Do you understand the situation now, Horikita-senpai?"

Sudo, frustrated by the attitude of superiority from the upperclassmen, stepped forward aggressively.

"Are you picking a fight?"

"Don't get too cocky!"

"Stay calm, Sudo-kun."

Horikita intervened, noting the presence of surveillance cameras. Reminded of this, Sudo reluctantly backed off, but just as he turned his gaze away from Horikita, Hosen's large hand pushed him.

"Whoa!"

Sudo lost his balance in that instant and fell backward. It was unbelievable that someone as formidable as Sudo could be toppled like a stick. Another intense individual had appeared.

"Is it just Sudo who's a heavyweight? I only lightly touched him."

Hosen's audacious action stunned the surrounding second-years.

"You!"

Understanding what had happened to him, Sudo was about to explode with rage, but before that could happen, another guy who had been watching from a distance stepped in.

"What the hell are you doing?"

Daichi Ishizaki, who belonged to Class C, approached. He belonged to the delinquent category but had a warm heart. Seeing Sudo, who was of the same grade, treated disrespectfully seemed to have been too much for him to bear.

"They keep popping up one after another like cockroaches. Sorry, Sudo, I touched him thinking of it like petting a cat."

With a contemptuous attitude, Hosen ridiculed Ishizaki. Unable to bear it any longer, Ishizaki seemed on the verge of grabbing Hosen by the collar, but at that moment, Hosen's lips curled up ever so slightly.

"If you don't want to die, back off, Ishizaki."

The hand extended by Ishizaki was stopped just in time, and it was Ryuen, who had been watching as part of the audience, who stopped him.

"Why are you stopping me!?"

"What's your intention in stopping him?"

Ibuki, who had been walking alongside them, also couldn't hide his surprise. These kinds of conflicts were Ryuen's favorite, so Ibuki found it strange that Ryuen would intervene.

"Are you going to be the next opponent? You look weaker than Sudo over there."

Hosen sneered at Ryuen, who wasn't particularly large.

"I know all about you, Hosen. You were a bit of a local celebrity, so I didn't expect you to look so stupid now."

"You know him, Ryuen?"

"It's Ryuen, huh?"

As Hosen heard the name, his expression changed, and he grinned mischievously.

"Oh, what a coincidence. I've heard plenty about you, Ryuen."

"It seems you have the intelligence to remember people's names."

It seemed these two knew each other from before. With characters like these two, their hometown must have been a really rough place. I definitely wouldn't want to live there.

"But I didn't expect the infamous Ryuen to look so feeble. Surprising."

"And you're just as muscle-headed as the rumors say."

"I've thought about going on a few raids to kill you, but I guess you've been hiding from me out of fear?"

"Haha, you got lucky with this encounter, Hosen . If it weren't for me, you wouldn't be able to act so big right now. Luckily, I'm still undefeated."

"I thought you just ran away with your tail between your legs. If that's not the case, want to settle things right here, right now?"

"I'll pass. There's no point in fighting a gorilla with no payoff."

Ryuen refused the fight, but well, starting a brawl here wouldn't end well, would it?

"Are you making excuses for being underestimated by first-years?"

Ibuki probably knew Ryuen's tendency to bite back at anyone.

"I can settle things anytime."

It should've ended there, but Hosen closed the distance between him and Ryuen.

"Even women can be used as soldiers, Ryuen. Well, it doesn't matter, let's have fun, Ryuen."

"I said no."

Ryuen didn't take the bait of Hosen's provocation. As if to symbolize that, the Ryuen faction turned their backs and retreated. But Hosen , not one to be provoked, grabbed Ibuki by the neck with his large arm.

"What!?"

Ibuki tried to pull away from that thick arm, but it didn't budge.

"Go ahead, try to escape. Or if you want, everyone watching can attack me together."

With a mocking smirk, Hosen looked like a wild lion, exuding absolute confidence. Of course, if we retaliated here, we'd all be punished together. Yet, as Ryuen sighed, he slipped into Hosen's embrace. But even as he did, Hosen effortlessly blocked Ryuen's kick while still holding Ibuki by the neck.

"You!"

Ishizaki joined the fray, but it was as good as nothing to Hosen. The commotion was escalating to a point where it didn't seem like it was happening at a school.

"All right, all right. Coming to a school like this was worth it after all."

Just as a full-scale battle was about to begin, at that moment,

"Hosen-kun, please stop!"

Nanase spoke out, reprimanding Hosen.

"What? Did you say something?"

With an irritated expression, Hosen tried to continue the fight, but Nanase's tone became stronger.

"If you understand, all the more reason to stop. If you continue this pointless behavior, I'll consider making 'that' known to everyone here."

Upon hearing those words, Hosen's movements halted.

"Not bad. You won't go easy even on a girl?"

"I'll stand my ground if it comes to that."

And Nanase stared him down without flinching. Indeed, Hosen was strong. Even if Ryuen, Sudo, or Albert fought him seriously, they probably wouldn't win.

"Enough. Let's go, Nanase."

"Yes, that would be wise."

As if satisfied with the fight, Hosen glanced once more at Ryuen.

"If you're willing to grovel before me, I wouldn't mind teaming up, Ryuen-senpai?"

"Unfortunately, I don't plan on teaming up with someone like you, a gorilla."

"That's a shame."

However, the incident didn't end there. Hosen , displeased with how Ryuen handled him, turned his attention to other first-year students.

"Just standing around watching, huh? You?"

"A wise man keeps his distance from danger. Are you familiar with those words?"

The first-year male student responded lightly to Hosen's glare.

"It's fine to chat, but causing any more trouble wouldn't be wise."

With that advice, finally, an adult appeared on the scene.

"What are you doing, Hosen?"

Cutting through the commotion, a man in a suit appeared, and at the same time, many of the second-year students who had been watching hurried back into the classroom.

"Hosen, I understand your agitation, but the rules of this school should have been drilled into your head by now."

"I get it."

"If you understand, then leave promptly. Fighting is not tolerated on these premises."

"Yeah, yeah, I'm not getting involved in this fight."

Hosen grumbled discontentedly and withdrew with Nanase.

"Sorry about that. My students caused some trouble. By the way, let me briefly introduce myself. I'll be in charge of first-year Class D. I'm Katsunori Shiba. Nice to meet you."

With that self-introduction, Shiba followed Hosen , and then, as if in exchange, a cheerful boy bowed to the second-year students. He seemed shady. The boy introduced himself as "Takuya Hagami," and apparently, he knew about Kushida. Naturally, I wondered if he also knew about Horikita, but Kiyotaka asked instead. However, Horikita just shook her head, claiming not to know him. Well, that's how it is. She doesn't seem to have many friends, after all.

"What's up?"

"It's nothing... never mind."

Why is he so easy to read? Creepy.

As the disturbance came to an end, members of the Ayanokoji group gathered.

"That was really scary, wasn't it?"

"This year's first-years seem to have some troublemakers like Sudo-kun and Ryuen-kun, huh?"

Hasebe and Sakura, who had been watching from a distance, said somewhat exasperatedly. Beside them, Akito stood still, gazing down the hallway where Hosen had disappeared.

"What's wrong, Miyacchi?"

"Some really bad ones have enrolled here. This school might get pretty chaotic. He's... Hosen's strength is on a different level from Sudo and Ryuen."

Now that I think about it, since Akito lived in the same area as Ryuen and the others, he would inevitably hear about Hosen. Apparently, in Akito's middle school, there was also a... gang leader, you could say, like Hosen, who once beat up Hosen when he was just a first-year, sending him to the hospital.

"Wow, so Miyacchi was a delinquent?"

"...I was only delinquent until my second year of middle school. From then on, I've been focused on archery."

"That's not cool at all!"

Hasebe seemed excited to hear about Akito's delinquent past.

"That's not cool at all... and besides, I'd get into fights with kids from other schools on the way home."

"Really? But, Miyacchi, you seem to know a lot about it."

"...Not really."

I'm knowledgeable about fighting because I'm on that side too. However, since Akito and the others are from a different area, they don't know anything about Ryuen or Hosen. Still, from what they've seen, they can tell that Ryuen and Hosen are quite strong.
