"What do you think you are doing, Trent? Aren't you shameless, pushing a woman to the front to fight for you while you stand back and watch?" Jace sneered. 

Did he think he didn't know he was trying to drive a wedge between him and his mother?

"Whatever. I'm only concerned about offending Aunt by not leaving without eating," Trent said shamelessly.

"You're indeed concerned. How come I didn't know you were this filial?" Jace spurted sarcastically.

"Fitzwilliam," Rose called and Mr Fitz showed up almost immediately. It was like he's been standing by the door all this while.

"Get the cook to prepare an extra serving," she ordered and this time again, Mr Fitz did not know whether he should carry out the command or not.

"Go on, we can't help but be generous and feed one more pauper," Jace said nonchalantly before strolling out of the room.
