Susan smiled as she got out.
"Ready to check out the lab?" she asked, walking up to me.
"Absolutely," I replied, leading the way to the entrance. We made our way inside and down the hallway to the lab.
As we approached the door, I could already see the lights on inside. I pushed the door open and there was Professor Novik, hunched over a lab bench cluttered with beakers, test tubes, and an assortment of scientific instruments.
His lab coat was wrinkled, his hair a wild mess, and thick-rimmed glasses perched precariously on his nose. He was the epitome of a workaholic chemistry professor.
"Professor Novik," I called out, and he looked up, his eyes blinking rapidly.
"Oh, you're here," he said, his voice exhausted. "I didn't expect anyone this late."
"We wanted to check out the lab," I explained, gesturing to Susan beside me. "And see how the powder testing is going."
