Unknown Village - Hunan Province, China
In a remote village adorned with architecture reminiscent of ancient China, wooden and stone buildings with red lanterns that exude an aura of serenity. These beautiful structures, though not towering, showcased the craftsmanship of a bygone era. The tranquil setting was contrasted by the pained cries of a woman echoing through the narrow alleys.
"Ahhhhhh, get them out of me!" A voice, laden with the weight of impending motherhood, contrasted sharply by the peaceful atmosphere. Inside a house mirroring the village's architectural charm, a reassuring voice cut through the cries. "Just one more push, darling. Daisy's already out; it's just David now." Anxiety and anticipation mingled in the air as Jiaying, the woman in labour, laboured through the final moments.
Outside the village, an armoured vehicle advanced steadily, its destination seemed to be the very same village for now, and while its inhabitants were oblivious to the impending struggles and went about their daily lives, unaware of the ominous arrival.
In the birthing chamber, the last push brought forth the second child, bringing a peculiar sense of peace to the room.
The newborn twins lay in their cribs – Daisy, the elder sister, cried out beside her surprisingly calm brother. The room glowed with the presence of new life, unaware they were about to experience the unfairness of life so soon after birth. The serenity was shattered as urgent footsteps burst through the door, a messenger delivering a message that eclipsed the joyous occasion.
"Elder Jiaying, there is a situation that requires your immediate attention." Hazel eyes glistened in the sunlight as Jiaying, despite the recent childbirth, displayed surprising agility, following the messenger with her maternal instincts momentarily being overshadowed by more pressing matters.
Rushing to the neighbouring building, Jiaying narrowly avoided an explosion just outside the door. Smoke bombs filled the air, as secret agents came storming in, bringing chaos to the peaceful village.
Fear etched Jiaying's face, not for herself but for her newborn twins, Daisy and David. As agents dragged her out, bound by the arms, she cast a desperate glance toward the adjacent building, praying for her children's safety only for relief to wash over her as she glimpsed the untouched scene throughout the rest of the village, finding solace in everyone else's safety.
In a cramped closet, Calvin, the doctor, clutched his children, silently praying for the intruders to pass by. Unbeknownst to him, David, one of the infants, harboured a glint of intelligence in his sparkling blue eyes, observing the world beyond his father's grasp.
Amid the chaos outside, David's infant mind grappled with the realisation of his rebirth. Confusion and numbness enveloped him as he faced the profound implications of his newfound existence.
'I had my whole life ahead of me... and now it's just over.' The weight of this revelation settled upon him, stirring a poignant realisation of life's impermanence. David, confused and emotionally paralyzed, embarked on a journey marked by the mysteries of rebirth.
