CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE
After eating a mouse, Shadow was walking contentedly along the new clan border, making sure he didn't smell anything off. leaves littered the ground, and the trees waved at him. Then, his whiskers twitched. An ever-familiar scent, that of his brother, and Beeflight's.
Hmm? Curiously, Shadow slowly inched towards the scent, making sure to be quiet. Beeflight's eyes gazed over him once, and she turned back around to talk to Onyx.
Shadow had always been jealous of his twin, Onyx, because his twin was everything he was not. This often led cats to choose his twin, and not him. But, Beeflight too?
Hadn't she said that Shadow was her favorite cat, or had it all been a lie? Indeed, when Shadow found them talking next to the spring, he turned away before he could hear what they were saying. Which, by the way, was a very stupid mistake. Because if he had listened, he would have heard Beeflight's furious swearing about Onyx, and his heart would have been put to rest.
But, heart aching, he turned around and walked away before anything more could be said or heard.
