Kapitel 34: Nocturnal activity

Now Morgan was related to Tiffany, they were cousins but Morgan was younger by three years.

Anna and Morgan just could not get along because according to Anna.

Morgan was lazy and could not do anything right.

Tomboy Morgan was not about to let skinny, chicken legs Anna pester her anymore.

They were the two that fought in the waiting room and had to be kept separated.

"Didn't your holy book teach you to turn the other cheek," taunted Morgan.

Annoyed, Anna replied, "I'm going to turn the other cheek alright!"

She slapped Morgan hard on her left butt cheek.

"How dare you!" shouted an outraged Morgan.

Morgan tried to punch Anna but she blocked it with her hands.

Others noticed and started drawing attention to the two that were arguing.

Pretty soon the young girls were abandoning their assigned tasks and running closer to the fighting duo to get a better view to spectate.

Girls shouted loudly, "Fight!"

"Fight! FIght!"

Morgan at first was stunned and then she lunged at Anna.

The two of them ended up rolling in the dirt.

Anna scratched at the ground and flung dirt into Morgan's eyes.

Blinding the heavier girl temporarily.

Then she kneed her in the stomach in a bid to get out from under Morgan.

The other girls were laughing and yelling and crowding around the two.

Instead of parting the fight they were encouraging and jeering them on.

This was the main reason why to Charm the other girls would remain nameless because they didn't have much to offer.

To her they were just followers that lagged decency or integrity.

"Not again," groaned Tiffany as she got up to part the fight.

It was Serene, who yelled out, "girls, get back to work or no supper tonight."

Met with a chorus of grumbles but each girl returned to the task they had been originally assigned.

That night as the others were tired and settled down to sleep.

Charm was the only one unable to sleep.

Tired of tossing and turning she got up and decided to go for a walk.

Charm walked past the two on night duty who were fast asleep and just shook her head.

This nocturnal activity had originally started out of boredom.

But now walking at night became something of a ritual for Charm.

Tonight the air was warm and the humidity was sweltering so Charm began to sweat heavily inside the white jumpsuit.

Not only did it calm the restlessness deep inside her but it also met her yearning for adventure.

As she challenged herself to walk further and further from the cave each night.

That's how she managed to stumble across the village.

At first she walked by a few shacks but all of them were empty and boarded up.

Others in the group would have turned back at the sight of the rundown, deserted village.

Probably thinking it haunted or the like but not Charm.

She clutched her only weapon, her self made spear even harder.

As Charm challenged herself to go further into the abandoned village.

That's when she first saw the young lad running, seeing him scared and running for his life.

Charm automatically started to run behind him too.

She called out to the young man, he was surprised to see her but he didn't stop.

If anything he picked up his pace.

It was stupid for her to be out here alone, chasing after some stranger.

Still she got the idea into her head that he could be one of the guys from the warship.

She didn't want to lose sight of him when he could have the answers to her unasked questions.

The deeper she got into the village, the more it appeared that something was off about it.

Even though the streets were empty, she could smell something putrid and rotten in the air.

It was too late to turn back and she could still see the young man clearly up ahead.

Then from the rooftop something leapt off the edge of the building.

It had been stalking the young man.

Obviously it saw the young guy that possessed a dagger as a bigger threat than Charm with her bamboo stick.

"Above you," Charm called out in desperation to the young man but it was too late.

Whatever was stalking the man was not human.

To leap from such a height and hit his target so easily, its agility was unbelievable.

It wore a black hooded cloak as it bent over the boy.

When Charm got closer she realized that it was feeding.

The creature had pierced the jugular of the young man and was drawing his blood.

The poor lad was still struggling against it and fighting a losing battle for his life as his blood spurted out.

She had to do something to help.

Without thinking Charm sailed the only weapon she had towards the creature with all her might.

It was enough to surprise the predator and it staggered away from the boy.

Charm ran over to the boy's body but it was too late for him.

His eyes seemed to hint at something and she followed the young man's gaze with her own.

It was the dagger that the boy had wanted to use against the creature.

The creature had knocked it out of the young man's hand when it landed on top of him.

Charm ran towards the dagger and picked it up.

She felt a jolt of energy pass between her hand and the dagger.

It was the same blue energy that she had once seen emitted from Zinc's hands.

When he fought against the Locust General and its lieutenant.

This dagger was drawing out her spirit power but Charm didn't have time to marvel over it.

For the creature had gotten the bamboo stick out of its back and was now eying Charm with an icy, inhuman rage.

Now the demon was face to face Charm.

To her surprise saw that the face she saw under the hood looked like a familiar human with unnatural good looks.

She looked away first.

As she realized it was some form of demon up to its tricks.

The demon wanted to beguile her with its hypnotic gaze.

It gazed at her with grim, cold eyes while blood drained from the side of its mouth.

Charm turned to run.

The predator dropped the body of the lifeless boy and turned to go after Charm.

She could feel the heat from its gaze as it fixed its deadly sight on her as she ran for her life.

It was gaining on her, and it did not seem to see her as a threat as it pounced on top of her.
