Lithira couldn't see anything at first, only the oppressive darkness around them. Then she felt it—a surge of mana emanating from one of the group. It was likely Mathieu, the mage, activating something within the room.
The floor beneath them began to glow with golden light. As Lithira looked down, she realized it was an enormous rune matrix, far larger and more intricate than anything she had ever worked on.
Whoever had designed this was far more skilled in rune magic than she was.
The space around them slowly illuminated, the glow spreading from magical lamps positioned all around the vast, circular room.
The room was a giant, transparent dome, and beyond it, the night sky stretched endlessly, filled with stars.
In the center of the room stood an altar, rising up on high stairs. At the top, ruined circles of a massive rune matrix were engraved into the ground, some incomplete or broken.
