Kapitel 33: THE MITHRIDOCUS FAMILY

THE MITHRIDOCUS FAMILY

"Your highness, why did you sell the land in the east to those peasant bums and giving them the title of Duke?" Minister Holden asked Prince Raslee.

"Don't underestimate this young man from Starri city. Explain to him about this scion of the Kaleon family", the prince told one of his advisors.

"The Earl of Kaleon pretended to be a fool to purchase all the grains from Starri city before the war with the demons and made huge profit from the trade", the advisor replied and told them.

"I heard about that too but what I heard was, this boy is a fool who got lucky", Minister Holden told the prince.

"Besides buying grains at cheap prices, the young Earl, also sold all their family's properties and bought many airships. During the war with the demons, the cost of ferrying the wealthy from Starri city was astronomical, making the Kaleon family enormous wealth, and their properties became worthless after the war", the advisor told them.

"Those are not spectacular moves for someone who knew about the invasion beforehand, the Kaleon family must have gotten wind of the demon invasion before others", Minister Holden said to them.

"The most admirable move of this young Earl isn't making money but how to spend it. At their own cost they bought passage for thousands of people in Starri city who couldn't afford their tickets out of the city, becoming their savior overnight and they continue to feed these people today", Prince Raslee told the minister.

"There is no benefit to that charity", Minister Holden told the prince.

"That you are wrong. The Kaleon family now has thousands of supporters who would do anything to repay their kindness and these people are now in my city", Prince Raslee told the minister.

"We can chase these refugees away from our city", Minister Holden told the prince.

"What will the King and the other princes think about me if I did that to the refugees, a heartless prince?" Prince Raslee asked his minister.

"But the land alienated to the Kaleon family is enormous, it is not to our benefit to have this outsider from Starri city control so much land in our city", the minister told the prince.

"Don't worry, the eastern land is plagued with periodic animal incursions. Even the Conjurer Court couldn't clear those lands for use. Without the use of the land, the Earl of Kaleon would not be able to support the refugees", the prince said to them.

-----

"What did you just say happened in the palace of the prince?" Orol asked me.

"Yes, I bought the land in the east and the title comes with a duke-ship. You are now the Duke of Kaleon, father", I said to Orol as I showed him the Deed that I signed with the prince of the city.

"Young master, I had doubted the city would sell such a large piece of land to us. You surprised me even more by elevating our family to the ranks of nobility now", Hagar said to me.

"This is only the beginning. We have much to do and a town to build", I said to them.

"But we don't have experience in construction", Orol said to me.

"Don't worry, I have a team ready", I replied to him as I pointed to Camliden.

"It is my honor to serve you, Duke Orol", Camliden said to Orol who was surprised and at the same time flattered by the title.

"Is this my luck? I have worried about you for all these years, Oriese. Your behaviors in the past haven't been at all admirable but you have now become more than what I expected from my son. I am so proud of you", Orol said to me as tears fell from his eyes.

"We have much to do", I said to them.

"No, leave the business to the others. You will need to spend more time practicing magic", Orol said to me suddenly.

"Why?" I asked him.

"Because the Conjurer Court's latest apprentice audition will be in six month's time, you need to prepare for it", Orol said to me.

"You want me to enroll as an apprentice in the Conjurer's Court?" I asked him.

"Master, the young master is brilliant in doing business, there is no need to expect him to become a conjurer", Hagar told Orol.

"That is true. Although it is my dream for Oriese to become a Conjurer, he is much more now even without becoming one", Orol said to us.

"Why is me becoming a conjurer your dream?" I asked Orol.

"There is something that you don't know about, son. It's a shame in our family. Our Kaleon family were originally from the Mithridocus family, one of the noble families in the Ten-Kingdoms", Orol told me.

"Mithridocus?" I asked.

"Mithridocus is one of the six major families that have influence in Drachia kingdom. They and their subordinate families control everything in this kingdom. Even the King of Drachia and his many princes are related to these families", Hagar told me.

"Why is being from the Mithridocus family a shame?" I asked Orol.

"Our great great grandmother was from the Mithridocus family. She married a Kaleon, who was a small trader at that time. In time, with the support of the main family, our Kaleon family established ourselves in Starri city, but we are still looked down upon by the main family", Orol said to me.

"So, you want me to become a Conjurer to show off to the main family?" I asked Orol.

"That was always the dream of our family", Orol said to me.

"You don't have to feel ashamed of our family now, we have gained the title of a duke in this city", Hagar told him.

"Don't worry, I'll go to the audition and become the strongest conjurer ever in history", I told them.

"Are you serious?" Orol asked me.

"I want to test my abilities too, in the Conjurer's court and try their legendary ranking", I told him.

"Son don't be over yourself. The Legendary ranking is meant for superior beings like the apostles, they are not for common people like us", Orol told me.
