Kapitel 45: Life Is Unfair

I stormed into Nyssa's office, the anger bubbling up inside me for days.

I haven't been to the company. Nyssa haven't reached out. Nothing.

The only text I got from her was the fact that I had ruined my chances.

Well, I replied with a fuck you.

I couldn't take it anymore—the pressure, the insults, the way she looked down on me like I was nothing.

I have had enough.

When I burst through the door, I froze. Nyssa wasn't wearing her usual sunshades. For the first time, I could see her face fully. She looked different—older, maybe. Fine lines etched around her eyes and mouth, and her dark eyes were sharp, but tired. There was something almost human about her now that the shades were gone, but that didn't stop the rage that was burning in me.

"Ember," Nyssa greeted me coolly, her tone as icy as ever.

I didn't waste any time. "How dare you send me to that fundraiser with the intention of selling me off like some kind of—"
